Michael Shannon is amazing and should be in a Star Wars movie.
    Denis Leary just yells.

    1. It has to look and feel like Star Wars, art direction for the new trilogy must be top tier.

    2. Keep the looming threat of the galaxy entire, don't build a story around a local fiefdom or isolated segment, it must feel as if it connects to the Star Wars galaxy as a whole, even if it is new and unexplored. If not, you are in danger of breaking rule 1.

    3. Make it unique as possible, given you don't break rules 1 and 2.

    And a personal wishes:

    4. Keep practical effects and puppetry. It's part of Star Wars' tradition to use unique, often cutting edge practical costumes, masks and effects.

    5. There is a craft and art to making a Star Wars movie, believe in the investment and know your audience appreciates the craft that goes into making Star Wars. The craft that keeps Star Wars a vibrant and immersive cinematic experience.

In all seriousness, I really have a "don't do list" moreso than things I want/expect

No time travel. Just keep it out of SW
Don't go full Prometheus and try to make it too self absorbed trying to explain too much.

Just a thought- what do we think the structure of the conflict is going to be about?

For example, the Original trilogy was about a small group of Rebels fighting a larger Empire. The prequels featured a large civil war with the twist with the rebels actually being the antagonists this time. In the sequel trilogy, we had two ruling nations, with one being decimated and its resistance eventually fighting back and echoing the rebels v empire conflict of the original trilogy.

Given that we're talking Star "Wars", I'd assume that we're in for yet another war. So, I wouldn't expect the central conflict to be something like "Man vs Nature" (though that's a good jumping off point for a spinoff film, for sure).

"Man vs Technology" is also pretty overplayed, but could be interesting in the Star Wars universe- though again, an IG-88 horror spinoff could be really cool, too.

How would we feel about "Man vs God"- not a literal god of course, but some sort of force from outside the GFFA. The Yuuzhan Vong were kind of a mistake, but maybe we could see a reinterpretation of the Rakatan Empire's rise or fall?

Or a war against a person or a faction trying to remove the Force completely, similar to what Kreia was trying to achieve in KotOR II.

If we can get past the sour taste of the Yuuzhan Vong (though I personally quite enjoy them), I think the invasion idea would be really fresh for Star Wars. But I would almost rather see it happen in the sequel trilogy era, as a replacement for the First Order, to avoid retreading the same themes there add infinitum.

I wouldn't mind seeing a, dare I say, prequel-esque political conflict in the Johnson trilogy. Something along the lines of Frank Herbert's Dune, with various houses, planets and powers in conflict, and a tragic royal figure at the center.

Yeah Lord of the Rings.....maybe we could get Peter Jackson to consult for RJ......if that happens then OF COURSE it would follow that Legolas would be in the movie(s), because Legolas is always in PJ's movies

Yeah that Geonosis battle was awesome as a kid.. but you watch it now and it is pretty cringe at times. But what makes it horrible is that they are just fighting heaps of cannon fodder so you never felt like they were going to lose. If they did a Jedi v Sith war they could have some epic fights but not a 10 v 10 fight or anything.

    Personal wishlist:

    1. Take it in a new direction, go to some new places. This is an entire galaxy of possibilities, and with RJ working with a "blank canvas", what better time to introduce us to something genuinely new to this universe?
    2. New art direction that gives the trilogy its own defined look, while still feeling familiar enough that it fits in-universe. While I do love the art direction of the sequel trilogy, a lot of it also feels a bit too familiar at times, as much of what we see in these films, so far, have been updates of older designs as opposed to anything radically new or different (which makes total sense for what it's trying to accomplish). While I obviously want the art direction of any Star Wars film to still feel like it belongs in Star Wars, I would like to see something new for a change.
    3. Further exploration of the mystical side of the Force. This is something that The Clone Wars and Rebels have done exceptionally well, and is something I yearn to see more of in the films, be it concerning the Jedi, Sith, the Whills, or something totally new!

That's a good point. Battle Droids were a joke, and even a single Jedi could pretty much fight them almost free of consequence, in some cases almost ad infinitum.

Seeing something like the Battle of Malachor, with only Jedi and sith and lots of crossguard sabers would be really cool. Really expand on the medieval themes of Kylo Ren in TFA.

Would love a Star Wars movie on scale of Lord of the Rings. They remain the best blockbusters ever made imo.

The two storylines I have thought of that would be cool to see are -

1: Snokes backstory. Snoke appeared very menacing in TFA and especially TLJ. Kylo only managed to kill him through trickery, Even if Kylo and Rey teamed up against him, I would definitely see Snoke as stronger in the force. But you could tell that he is old and frail physically. The trilogy could go 1: Snokes rise long ago, 2: Snokes fall and how he got his injuries. 3:Snokes return and takeover of the first order. Or it could end with his fall and have all three set in the past.

2: Follows the adventures of a group of jedi as they become jedi and face some threat. What I imagine is a sort of Star Wars version of Harry Potter (HP followed the main characters as they grew up and learned at Hogwarts, the RJ trilogy could follow some jedi as they learn at a jedi temple/academy.) It would be interesting to see main characters with a variety of strengths and weaknesses and not necessarily being the strongest force wielders of their time (No skywalker/ Rey/Yoda/Palpatine level of strength).

I want a giant army of MRA idiots to spring from the unknown regions and then a giant bunny steps on them with his giant foot. The rest of the movie can be one shot of a cantina and its nightly activities.

But for realz, no skywalkers, no falcon, no death stars.

This is the most misguided idea I've heard in a long time: clearly Bor Gullet needs to do its thing and make them tearfully confess to all the masturbatory insecurities (both literal and metaphorical) that made them MRA douchebags to begin with.

Are you familiar with the story arc in the original marvel Star Wars comics (around 81 or 82 I think) called The Dreams of Cody Sunchild? That's definitely in this ball park.

Hmmm I'm not sure I want a Star Wars film about hiking. The battle scenes were cool though.
    --- Double Post Merged, Jan 30, 2018 ---
I'd love to see some inspiration taken from Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea Books. Maybe some tales of the early Jedi and have the Rakata as the main antagonists.
