This was my favorite of all the "Journey to the Force Awakens" new canon books, along with that YA Princess Leia one. I think it would be a great movie. Looking forward to her new book next month. Would like to know if there is a follow up with the two characters later on as the New Republic carries on.

I don't believe there is any forum for something like that. The best way to show Disney what you like is to vote with your wallet, plus spread the word to other Star Wars fans.

    Great review @Hard Case !

I was sort of hesitant to go over this book from the new canon, but as I started reading it myself I found it such a page-turner!!! I could not stop reading it until the end.

I agree that the last name of the author fits perfectly with the portrayal of the two factions we know at war during the OT: the Galactic Empire vs the Rebellion. There are no utterly evil and totally good: there are gray areas. Even reading the way Tarkin is portrayed is endearing! Yeah, the same old heartless villain that destroyed Princess Leia's homeworld in front of her, could be such a sweetie grandpa figure to this two kids.

The character development is quite interesting. One of the secondary characters - Nash - intrigues me the most. At first we meet him as the main guy's best friend, likable Alderaanian guy, with a crush on his Princess, and then we see his transformation after the destruction of his homeworld. We see more details of a post-traumatic event response from another Alderaanian - since in the "Princess Leia" comic was generally portrayed with the rescue of the survivors but briefly. We see Nash reflects in some way how Leia reacts to Alderaan's destruction: she devotes herself to the Rebellion, he devotes himself to the Empire. Of course it sounds totally wicked, since it was the Empire who destroyed it, but somehow Nash justifies that act of pure evil.

And some can criticise the character of Ciena on how she is still devoted to a system that she has found broken and that has failed her. But when we read the ways she was raised on, the ways of the villagers who were bound to their honor and their duty, we somehow can make an attempt to vindicate her.

And above all, I enjoyed seeing the OT from other eyes, not only circling around the events of the Big Three, and especially in the eyes of people who was not that into the ways of the Force (I mean, non FS). I liked how Thane held Princess Leia in high esteem too.

Nice comments by everyone. I've just finished this one, and I must say I enjoyed it more than I had expected. I was really invested in the characters and eager to see the final outcome for each of them.

My mixed feelings about Ciena were never dissipated, and I kept rooting for her quitting her position, but I guess her morality had been clouded by her strange sense of duty and honor, and by guilt and fear. I loved her otherwise.

Despite too many coincidences, it was nice to recap all these events from other eyes, with different perspectives. For example, it was great how Thane got tired of hearing about Luke's heroism, while idolizing Leia.

All in all, great read, and I'd like to see more stories about these characters and knowing what happened to them after the events of the book.

pretty much how i imagined her, but that hair is totally not Imperial regulation, it would be tighter and not frowsy on the top.
the book even describes her as keeping it meticulously tamed.

I don't know. I haven't watched the show yet but she may be a character in an upcoming game. Don't know which one.

I haven't watched it either, but based upon the fact that it shows her in her pilot gear, its probably a pilot card for their X-Wing game.

Guess we can also rule her out as being Rey's mom.

Lost Stars is required reading even though Thane and Ciena don't seem likely to show up elsewhere in canon. I hear many always say it to be their favorite. Popular or not it is worth the read for the different perspective on familiar events, but I think someone who doesn't even care about Star Wars could like this book just as much. It's a good story plain and simple. Claudia Gray is probably the best writer right now in the Star Wars Canon.

The book made me crazy for maybe two weeks.
I sympathised with someone who served evil.
I wrote a fanfic about what happened later. Wrote 8 parts of 10 part novella before I got exiled from the JCF at TFN. I lost the motivation after the incident.
