The seventh released episode of Star Wars: Forces of Destiny has a title The Stranger. In the episode, Jyn Erso plays a role of Superman - she saves a cat, not from a tree, but from stormtroopers.

We don't know the location or exact timeline of the episode. It is certainly some time after Jyn's separation from Saw Gerrera as she is a grown woman. The structure that ends the episode has an interesting hexagonal shape, but I cannot remember if we have seen it before. If someone can pinpoint the location, leave a comment.

Jyn witnesses stormtroopers harassing a little girl over a tooka-cat. The girl is clearly alone as she states that cat is her only friend. Jyn decides to intervene in her usual style.

In my opinion, Jyn kinda acts out of character in this one. It's jarring how... heroic she is. Idk, do any of you feel the same way? Also, I think this short takes place on the planet Garel from Star Wars Rebels.

I super agree. She should've used an alias, but that would've confused the small kids that the short was produced for.

I think this is prior to one of Jyn's greatest disappointments, before both the Rebellion and the Empire use her and she ends up in Wobani. Plus, she always helped children, even before her change of heart:

And you are 100% right about Garel, the landscape from the beginning of the episode matches completely, even the big rock formation.

Wow, I'm not so hopeless after all, first thought about location was the same "great, encounter on Garel", despite the cat which comes from, well you know...

So, what's about the girl, is she Rey`s mother? :D

Disney needs to figure out how they want to depict the Ortolan species. Originally it was supposed to not have arms, but Kenner made it as a bipedal humanoid. In the newest comics they depict them with no arms. However in these Forces of Destiny shorts, they have them as humanoids. Personally I like the no arms version, it's more interesting than an elephant wearing a diaper.

In RO, she saved the little girl from being killed. In this one, she's basically saving a little girl's pet from going to the pound. While it doesn't seem completely out of character for Jyn to always be itching for a fight, I don't think something like this happening is enough to make the rebel that keeps her head down risk her life.

But I do definetly see where you're coming from and you brought up some really good points.

I don't know, I figure Erso's choice of risk/action (cat-rescue) is pretty believable, especially when considering her own personal context— and it may've been further triggered by the youngster's specific words to the trooper:

    "She's all I have."

She (Jyn herself) lost her "everything" to the empire. So, emotionally, it may not be so much about "the cat" as a touch of indirect revenge– and a shared empathy toward another "girl who has lost so much".

Further- the titular introduction implies that these are wee tales that notably and collectively helped build these characters into their future selves, and influence(d) future choices. ...So perhaps this may be seen as one step Jyn takes toward her final selfless acts.
