Kathleen Kennedy Talks Obi-Wan Kenobi Reunion and Future of the Sequel Trilogy Heroes

    Next year promises to be one of the biggest ever for Star Wars and this week's Empire looks set to shed a little light on some of Lucasfilm's most anticipated series. In a short preview released this morning, Kathleen Kennedy touches on Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen's emotional reunion on the set of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and teases at a possible future return for the heroes of the sequel trilogy.



    First up was Obi-Wan Kenobi and the rematch over a decade in the making. The reunion of the two actors was recently highlighted in the sizzle reel released on Disney Plus Day, with McGregor calling it 'the most beautiful thing of all' about the series. Speaking with Empire Kennedy elaborated a little more, saying:

    Anakin and Obi-Wan wasn't the only reunion Kennedy touched on as she briefly turned her sights to the future and the young heroes of the sequel trilogy. Whilst she did not confirm any specific projects in development, she did say that the characters have not been forgotten when it comes to future stories:

    Obi-Wan Kenobi is due to release exclusively on Disney Plus next year.

    The delay going on after The Rise of Skywalker it seems like Disney would be reluctant to fund a Lucasfilm experiment in a different era. The slam dunk here would be to make a film with Rey and Finn and build from there. I'd be disappointed, but fans loved Rey and Finn and there's plenty of stories that could be told with those two. Follow the serial formula that's worked for professional wrestling/Marvel/Mandalorian. Lean on what works in those stories and move away from what doesn't. The most difficult thing to do is create characters that people care about. That part is out of the way.

    It's kind of interesting how it's sort of ambiguous whether she was talking about a reunion between Hayden and Ewan or a reunion between Anakin and Obi-Wan.

    I believe it is strongly implied that Anakin and Obi-Wan had no physical encounters between ROTS and ANH, and that contradicting this would make their encounter in ANH much less emotional. I might be okay with Anakin and Obi-Wan having some sort of Force connection or indirect communication in the Obi-Wan series, but if they see each other in person or fight again, I will almost certainly be rejecting the series from my head canon. In fact, at one point I threatened to cancel my D+ membership if they did that, although now I'm quietly backpedaling on that. :)

    There were a lot worse in the days of the Kylo Ren worship hareem that hijacked the board. It's a lot calmer now. I disagree with the 'fart' but we all have our own thoughts. :) ;)

    Did you all really expect her to say the sequels and it's characters would be forgotten and ignored or something? Sounds like a basic response and not confirming anything for the near future.

    Personally, I'd like to see Oscar Issac return as Po Dameron in a Disney + show or some day appear in a spin off film if set post Rise of Skywalker
