    I was looking for a thread here in this forum about this great book and I dind't find it. So I'm creating one.

    I bought this book (portuguese version) a few months ago and I had an excellent surprise.

    I think this is the most enjoyable Star Wars Book that I read in my life, well I dind't read too many so far..heheh

    Just for the record I would like to recommend for the ones that it dind't read it so far. The Story and the writing its great, the characters and how they develop its very well done.

    Last week we heard that they are making a Kenobi Anthology, and I really hope that they will use this novel as canon, or maybe some parts of the book.

    This is the brazilian version for the novel:

    Thanks for sharing, I like that cover more than the English version. I agree that it was an excellently written tale, John Jackson Miller has a real knack for writing Star Wars, I recommend picking up his Knights of the Old Republic omnibuses as well if you enjoyed this story. It's unlikely that the novel will be uses as canon since it has already been branded as Legends, but the only real tie to the old EU that it seemed to have was in mentioning Sharad Hett, the Jedi who lived among the Tusken Raiders in the old Star Wars comics that came out around the time of Episode I. Regardless of its status as a Legends story, I still highly recommend it to other Star Wars fans, a great story is still a great story whether it is considered "Canon" or not.

    The covers and quality (material used) in Brazil for books are much better than the ones that I saw and bought in USA. Unfortunately KOTOR was not translated in Brazilian (portuguese) yet, but I have faith that they will release this year or during the ST realeases. Thanks for the recommendation.

    Mr. Messi.

    LoL, I'm just curious how many have you actually read sir? And I'm curious if you read other sci-fi as well? I recently finished it myself and I would like to hear the reasons of why you enjoyed the book so much?

    I finished two or three months ago. Sci-Fi books? I read some:

    - Rendezvous with Rama (Arthur. C Clarke);
    - 2001: A Space Odyssey (Arthur. C Clarke);
    - I, Robot ( Isaac Asimov);
    - Journey to the Center of the Earth (Jules Verne);
    - 1984 (George Orwell);
    - Brave New World (Aldous Huxley);
    - Caballo de Troya, Trojan Horse in english (J.J. Benitez);

    And some SW books too, as: The Crystal Star; ANH, TESB, ROTJ and TPM novels, Book of Sith, Thrawn Trilogy, Shadows of the Empire....

    There are two major reasons why I liked this book so much: First, is the planet and place where the story takes place, Tatooine (my favorite planet, the classic SW planet). Imagining Ben living and trying to not draw attention all the time its something interesting too see. Second, are the failures intentions of communication with his master Qui-Gon. During his meditations he opens his heart to the only one that he can trust in that Planet, and while you are reading you hope that the communtication expect to happen.

    And you Ben Kenobi, what are your thoughts about the novel?

    Wow, that's a very cool list of books. You listed some of my favorites like Brave New World, and Randezvous with Rama! I'm glad you enjoyed the novel. Unfortunately I can't say the same thing for a number of reasons. I felt Kenobi had a few great ideas to explore but never took advantage of them!

    - My biggest problem was Obi-Wan's characterization. After the events of Ep. III there is so much to tell about his character. He sees the demise of the Republic, fights his student in mortal combat, survives the Jedi Purge, betrayed by his own clone soldiers. His entire world is uprooted. All of these inner turmoils are never expressed. His "conversations" with Qui Gon were an attempt to see Kenobi from inside but felt utterly useless. They remain one-sided and are never answered. He doesn't feel like Kenobi from the films.

    - While it was nice to revisit Tatooine I didn't like the premise of the story. Instead of setting in motion plans for the future or helping to fight the Empire from underground, we get Kenobi run on a completely trivial errands. He fights Tuskans and a big lizard at the end that have no baring on the galactic events. A Jedi who is bound by his code to preserve peace and justice instead takes a side in a local standoff and spends his "off" time engaging with a woman he knows he has no future with.

    - I thought one of the main reasons Kenobi is stuck on Tatooine is to watch over Luke, yet we see no concrete plans in regards to that. Everything an underground Jedi is ought to be doing is replaced with what is basically a "space western." If you replace the title and the names of the characters,, this could have easily been a generic fantasy book.

    - There is no meaningful Jedi code in this novel.
    - There is no aftermath from the Order 66.
    - There are no plans about Luke's future training.
    - No Empire, no future uprising, and no true villains.

    I thought this was one of the worse SW books I read.

    Yeah, Kenobi is stuck in Tatooine to watch over Luke. That's the premise of Ben's story in Tatooine, the story after the battle against Anakin. He went to the desert planet to protect Luke, not to fight against the Empire, he won't take that risk of be discovered and risk Luke's life. But I've to admit, after reading your post, that JJM should have availed better that. Maybe introduce The Lars (I think they just mentioned them, I don't recall now) and Luke. Anyways, my reading was enjoyable at least...heheh

    Glad you liked it! If you enjoy stories about the planet Tatooine I highly recommend you read "Star Wars - Tatooine Ghost" by Troy Denning!

    I hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread for a moment. This Wednesday, Star Wars #7 gives us an entire issue dedicated to our boy Obi-Wan. If there is to be an Anthology film or any other Kenobi related material, this week's issue will be our first canonical look at what Obi-Wan was up to between ROTS and ANH and is the beginning.

    I have not read the John Jackson Miller book, but it is on my list. Apologies for hijacking this thread for a quick minute.

    And don't forget the Rebels show. It looks like Kenobi will be a major figure in season two!!
