So, was the ending of TROS mind-bogging? Did it melt your mind? Kevin Smith ( big fan of Kevin Smith btw, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Comic Book Men, and he is a great host and storyteller) has been gushing Star Wars since TPM and we all know how that turned out. I can't believe you guys fell for it, you all drank the proverbial kool-aid (spiked).

It's similar to when LFL said TLJ was a great film simply because KK and the film crew loved working with RJ ( what else is a film studio supposed to say about a film they spent 100s of millions of dollars on?).

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the prequels and TLJ but those films aren't perfect. Star Wars films are now being created by Star Wars fans that have experience in the film industry. These guys love Star Wars just as much as the next Star Wars fan but everyone has their own take on the story to tell that may not float your boat.

It's like a Star Wars fan film on an extravagant budget; however, I believe Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, and possibly Kevin Feige understand what the fans want without pandering to them and insulting our intelligence.

Filoni and Favreau did a great job on the Mandalorian. I can't wait for the fall for season 2. Next month Filoni gives us another season of the Clone Wars hope it isn't the final season. ;)

I've been a fan of Marvel comics since I was in the fifth grade. Back then those comic books were so epic I thought it would be great to turn those books into films. Low and behold 40 years later Kevin Feige gives us the MCU, so I believe a Feige Star Wars film won't be a disappointment but rather what fans have been pining for, for years.

Let me crib a Kevin Smith quote (which was made in reference to director of Superman returns, and the quality of that specific film): Kevin Smith is an infinitely better filmmaker than me in have made no films. He has made several wonderful ones.
Kevin Smith is also a fanboy (and knows it) who both has an insanely VIP level of access to any project he’s a fan of AND is notoriously effusive. He’s aware of those conflicts of interest/ways he can be used as propaganda. I don’t blame Kevin Smith for being a fan and running his mouth.

it was a nice closing shot. I don’t know if the sunset thing was what he thought was ending shot or not. I DO NOT CARE.
Kevin Smith has a right to get excited. He also has a right to talk to the press. More than that, he’s not abusing his right.

If you look at how he speaks to the press, he does his best to adhere to NDAs both in letter and spirit.

my personal take is that if I’d been on set, seen concept art, trailers, dailies, etc of PT & ST, I’d have run my mouth way more than smith did. Those movies had lots of issues, but Smith being a fan and liking what limited content he had access to wasn’t one of them.

    just my two cents.

Lmao, I was waiting for someone to revisit this here. People have been taking the piss out of this interview elsewhere on the internet for a while now.
My personal favourite comment regarding this was (paraphrased): "what exactly is mindmelting about the ending? Perhaps he was referring to his cameo on Kijimi, as shortly after the planet is blown up? His mind was literally melted!" :D

    :p
Kevin Smith is an adult he can do or say whatever he wants.

My point is what Kevin Smith might find mind melting might not necessarily be mind melting for me, that’s my point.

I have nothing against Mr. Smith I own several of his films and I’m a big fan of his.

Kevin Smith has visited the sets of pass Star Wars films before and basically had almost the same reaction when interviewed. Somewhat different but he gushed as if he saw God himself.

Kevin Smith can continue to do so, he can be the hype man of every new Star Wars film To come.
I just can’t believe people on this forum fell for it. :D

For me, whatever Mr. Smith says about a Star Wars film set visit, I’ll wait till I watch the film myself.

And if I was honored to visit a Star Wars set too, I’d fanboy out as well.
But I would remind my close friends I’m a big fan so you might see things differently when you watch the film.

If all the old jedi had shown as Force Ghost at the end (as has been rumored was the intention), that might have melted my mind, or at least thawed out a few lobes. It would have made sense considering they created a coliseum full of old Sith. The ending was not mind melting otherwise. I have been waiting for some of the predictions made in the aftermath of TLJ and before TRoS to be re-examined, and this is one of them.

I will say that a LOT of the predictions on this site did not age well at all LOL

I really do believe he is talking about the set with the emperors throne. It clearly was about the set since they werent filming at the time according to what he said.

The ending was not exactly mind melting, but it felt very right for me personally. I would have liked to see Ben there too, but it still works as it is. Returning to the old Skywalker house and the binary sunset was kind of what I was hoping to be the end of the trilogy, and Rey taking the Skywalker name was something I had on my wishlist, but I understand that it is not what everyone wanted. I don't think seeing a bunch of other Force Ghosts would have done anything for me. But here's the thing about Ben:

RoTJ ends with Vader dying, but Anakin's force ghost returns, assuring us that he is in a good place, and can still communicate with Luke. His death is tragic, but in the end, we are happy to see him smiling at Luke, telling the audience that he's fine. Ben Solo just dies after he has returned. Ben Solo returns and is his old self in one happy moment and then he is just dead. We are still happy that he returned before he died, but the end result is not as happy as ROTJ, and I think it should have been. It gets very wierd when you compare the endings to eachother.

Kevin kind of fan boys everything Star Wars. Nothing wrong with that, but he starts every conversation about how when he was such and such age in 1977...

    But that's just Kevin.

I just don't read or listen to any of what he says about SW because I value an unbiased voice. And Smith can't be unbiased. That said, he's free to say anything he wants and I've got no problem with him being an eager fan. I just take what he says with a grain of salt.

Please stop talking about “the ending.” Kevin Smith never had the opportunity to visit “Rey buries the Skywalker saber’s in the Lars home and then adopts the last name of ‘Skywalker’ as she then watches the twin suns.” Kevin had the chance to visit the set of “The Lars Homestead” and why the hell wouldn’t JJ tell him to do it?

so Kevin Smith knowns nothing of the story but is obviously a huge fan. How does a visit to the set of the Lars house spoil anything? If I was Kevin I would be really sad I could not have seen the boyhood home of Luke Skywalker in person. I think sometimes JJ goes too far with “the mystery box.” But that is just my opinion. If I had just survived a heart attack and got offered the chance to see star wars, I dunno, I think I’d want to see star wars. //love Kevin Smith not trying to be an ass.
