Killing the EU was brilliant, legally

I actually was told (at Lucasfilm when I asked the librarian person there) that The EU was never considered "Canon" to begin with as George always disregarded them but the only thing was that he had to personally approve every book that was published but he allowed way more freedom for Post-ROTJ than the PT.

The argument that killing the old EU is good because "some of the EU was good and some really bad" doesn't really hold up to me. Because the exact same thing can be said of the new EU. And inconsistencies WILL pop up. I'm sure there are already quite a few. Heck, there are tons of inconsistencies within the movies themselves, without even considering all the books and tv shows.

But I will say. I think it was the smart decision...still makes me sad. In the 90s, when there was nothing but the movies and a few books, Thrawn was as much a part of Star Wars as Vader or Palpatine, to me. So I'm still a little sore about it. The EU kept Star Wars alive for so long.

I can see your point because at a certain extent, I am sad too for some stories that made clear that Leia came to terms with her being a Skywalker sooner; however, there were some other that I am glad they are gone.

When I read you mentioning Captain America, all I could think was "Hail Hydra!"

Agree. It's for example, "Splinter of the Mind's Eye": when Lucas says he had planned Luke and Leia to be twins, come on!!! This novel serves as a evidence that he hadn't lol.
