    Kindred

    The good

    * Pryce in Veers outfit. Its a bit goofy looking, but I like seeing imperial command in them

    * Jai's still around. Hopefully that's not the last of him. He had force potential, so I'd like him to interact with Kanan rather than having two brief cameos just to remind us that he exist.

    * Zeb's super strong. Nice to see his role as "the muscle" do something, but easily lifting the hyperdrive with one hand. Usually the character is pretty worthless.

    * hera finally got a little love. They play it off as the first kiss...but others pointed out that kanan hasn't been sleeping in his room, and Kanan was a bit of a lothario in "a new dawn" so I just imagined.....they knew each other pretty well by now

    * great space shots

    The bad

    * jumping through the ship. I'll make a super nerdy follow up post on my views of hyperspace and why it irked me later tonight.

    The weird

    * Ruhk running like a horse

    * Why was Ruhk surprised by the jedi, shouldn't thrawn have told him about the targets?

    * "Its good when things get weird" Seems like the line "there is always a bit of truth in legends". Filoni is talking to us as much as the characters are talking to each other.

    * Why were they in a field before awaking, only for it to turn into a cave?

    Crawler commanders

I thought this episode was middling and laregely forgetable

    The good

    * the fight with the Foreman

    the bad

    * dumb humor

    Random nitpicks/questions

    * Did jai break off? How is he on the other side of the world with the rebels?

    * Anyone notice the static oscilloscope?

    * Who was the rando at the "closed door meeting"?

    * Anyone else get "temple of doom vibes"? Not that it made the episode great, but similar to how the dark trooper droids had horror vibes that didn't pay off.

    edit: Super nerdy hyperspace rant

Basically, the original trilogy view of hyperspace was that it wasn't liked dusting crops. If you jump through a hyperspace region with too much mass, it would destroy you. My view of hyperspace was calculating a path that didn't intersect with any big masses in real space.

I loved TFA, but it had a few JJ-ism like characters saying things that only make sense to the audience

    • "han solo, your father"....Ben knows who his dad is, its weird dialogue for snoke to say

    • Han being amazed after trying the bowcaster. Chewies had the thing for 30 years. Those shots and reactions were only for the audience to know how much it hurt kylo at the end.
Jumping through a mass has many other problems narrativly. How was the falcon captured on the deathstar when it could just jump through the death star.

Shouldn't you be able to just jump proton bombs into ships bridges to destroy them easily? Or what about hyperspace engines just jumping into reactors?

Kindred was the stronger episode. Command Crawlers was okay episode but it was pretty much a set up episode for next weeks episode (mid-season finale?). When I first saw the mining crawlers, I thought they were world devastators at first. Also, I'm surprised you didn't mention anythig about the Loth Wolf. I would add that to the the "good" column.

    The Good
    - Loth Wolf: It confirmed last weeks episode that the wolf in fact said "Dume" which is Kanan's real last name. He does have a connection with that particular Loth Wolf and it has a strong connection with the force. I wish they added more details about the Loth Wolves because they answered some questions but left us with even more. The Loth Wolf scenes is the most interesting part of Kindred episode. I can't wait to see how they come into play and why the main Loth Wolf has a strong connection to Kanan? Also the cave paintings about the Jedi is awesome. Can't wait to see what it means.

They did look a bit like world devastators, good catch.

I didn't mention the wolves...because I don't know what to make of them yet. I'm interested to see what they do, but we've seen so little, and much of it is bizarre, that I don't know if I like them or not.

They seem a bit like the bendu. I found him interesting, but ultimately was underwhelmed by him by the time the season was done.

Two very solid episodes, a great lead in for the mid-season finale.

Any episode that goes a bit into lore I'm gonna enjoy so Kindred gets the edge as far as what the better episode was. That being said for a "filler" episode I found Crawler Commander to be really entertaining.

I definitely agree that Kindred was better than Crawler Commanders, but I thought both were fine episodes. The fact that they actually had Kanan and Hera kiss makes me believe Kanan is going to die, although knowing Rebels, they probably subvert it somehow. I really liked the Lothwolfs in this episode, but the connection between Kanan and the Lothwolfs only furthers my belief that something bad is going to happen to Kanan in the mid-season finale. I like Warwick Davis being in Rebels, but I didn't really like Rukh all that much in Kindred and I was kind of expecting more. Also it seems like tensions are beginning to emerge between Thrawn and Governor Price which is interesting.

Regarding Crawler Commander, I'm glad to see Seth Green in more Star Wars related content, Ezra's Thandosian is certainly a lot better than his Imperial, and the fight between Zeb and the Foreman was pretty cool too.

Overall, these were good episodes, nothing really great happened in them, but there wasn't anything really bad either in my opinion. Hopefully, the Rebels mid-season finale leaves us with a bang before going away for three months.

Anyone else think Kanan is going to die next week? The kiss with Hera. The Loth Wolf calling him Dume. Looks ominous.

Not to mention Hera's look back and "May the Force be with you" before the door shuts...

Just started watching the second episode, but boy was that first one packed with obvious callbacks to Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke.

Haven’t managed to watch Recon yet, but it’ll be a shame if it doesn’t mention that; this episode clearly took some inspiration from the film, so I’m guessing that they (particularly Filoni) are big fans.

On one hand I think it would be weird to kill off a main character like that halfway through a season. But on the other hand, they do seem like they're setting it up to happen soon. And I seem to remember reading somewhere that the second half of the season is supposed to be focused more on Ezra than the rest, though likely with Sabine as well. Kanan dying would be a interesting starting point for the next 7 episodes to show how the crew reacts, what path Ezra will take, etc.

Please don't kill off (kanan) just yet. We just finally got (kanan)and(hera) to kiss. Can't Star Wars have a romance that doesn't end in tragedy?

    28FAA090-6D31-480C-BE4E-FEA5CEAA35EF.png Loved ‘Kindred’.

    Think about that title, btw.
    Hmm...

The wolf tunnel thing was wonky...
-but in a good way. I’m hooked into this whole loth-wolf mystery going on right now- it’s a good time, and that’s why I’m here.

I couldn’t help but be reminded of one of that particular black/red/white, wolf-circle Ahsoka image as well— you know the one I mean. (Attached)

Personally I'm hoping Sabine and Ezra become the romance that doesn't end in tragedy, though I doubt that will happen even if they do get together. Star Wars writers seem to hate the very concept of anyone being happy or the good guys winning in the end. Every positive thing or win is just a setup for something worse happening later. Frankly it's getting pretty annoying.
