After the surprise announcement of Kingdom Hearts IV in a recent livestream commemorating 20 years of the Disney and Square-Enix crossover franchise, fans of the Kingdom Hearts series may have just spotted a hint that the Star Wars franchise is finally going to be joining the beloved series.

The Kingdom Hearts IV trailer dropped in the middle of the night, showcasing a more photorealistic art style for its original characters and the environment in which they interact. Early into the trailer, there is a glimpse of an environment that is reminiscent of the lush forest of Northern California's Redwood National Park, where Return of the Jedi filmed for the Forest Moon of Endor. The shots we're referring to appear from 0:30 to 0:38 in the full trailer below:

It could just be any forest, however, there is one notable detail that suggests Kingdom Hearts might enter the realm of Star Wars, and that's the shot at 0:34 that appears to include the back of an AT-ST foot. If you couldn't see it, then this should help:

And, for reference, here is a clear look at the back of an AT-ST:

It's too early to say whether Kingdom Hearts will dip its toes into a Disney-owned franchise that started with another company (Twentieth Century Studios and Lucasfilm, in this case), but it should be noted that they have been willing to expand their horizons in the past. Kingdom Hearts III was a first for the franchise, featuring the first Pixar crossovers, bringing properties like Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. into the fold, and technically providing the first Marvel crossover by integrating Disney's adaptation of Big Hero 6 into the mix.

Oddly enough, this would not be the first time the series flirted with the idea of taking its first step into a larger world. Years ago, it was revealed that the cancelled mobile spin-off game Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys planned to feature content from Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a piece of its larger story, which would have also encompassed fellow Disney IPs Tangled, Frozen, and Wreck-It Ralph. While Star Wars was absent from Kingdom Hearts III, the others mentioned all had a presence in the game. We'll have to wait and see if the fourth time is the charm, and if the Force will be with this series at last.

Kingdom Hearts IV, with or without Star Wars content, is in development for an unspecified release date.
