Do you think there will ever be a movie based on (KO)TOR? Would you like to see one based on it, and how do you feel about its current non-canon (Legends) status? Do you think it's plausible it might come back to the canon in movie form, or perhaps in another way?

Share your opinions, thoughts and ideas regarding (a) (KO)TOR movie(s)

I want the current series never to end . . . well, never is a bit strong, but I want it to continue for a while past 12. That said, I would love to see, and can easily envision, a series of movies exploring the Old Republic and the rise of the Sith and Jedi. There is just wayyy too much material and opportunity here NOT to tap it.

Love it and love the thread idea!

I'd imagine that they'd want to take some liberties with the era, should movies based in that timeframe get made. The original Knights Of The Old Republic serves as a perfect template for a story, and a duology of films would likely work to tell the story of Revan and Malak. I'd imagine that they should go with more of the influence from the old comics design-wise, given that it seems weird that technology is more or less the same, but somehow less efficient in the BioWare game.

I would definitely allow for technology back then to be more archaic in the sense that it has evolved somewhat by the time of the current series.

That was one thing I was surprised about with The Prequels is that we didn't see older less advanced forms of technology.

I think that KotoR did a fine job kind of propping up the prequels in this regard. Even though those games were set thousands of years in the past, technology wasn't exceptionally different. You still had fairly complex AI and sophisticated interstellar technology. I liked the insinuation that the builders kind of brought hyperspace technology to the galaxy like 26,000 years prior and that things hadn't advanced significantly since then. Meant that technology had plateaued a long time ago and that advances come very slowly in this galaxy.

As far as the old republic becoming canon again, I'm not so sure. I'd definitely like that, since those stories are some of the most interesting I think, in all of Star Wars. I like how much effort they put into developing the lore, I like the long-established eras of sith lords, etc.

I don't think they'll ever make a movie based on KotoR, but I certainly hope they do a movie in a similar style with an exploration of the real temptations of the dark side, and a plethora of characters with different alignments. I'd like to see them go into the history of the Sith with these really strong, really evil characters. I think episodes 7,8 and 9 will probably do something like this anyway. But I really enjoy the old republic era. That stuff was all really cool, and I hope they bring at least some of it back into the star wars canon.

Yes, George has said that once Hypserspace had been achieved (faster than light travel) there was nowhere else to go with technology.

I play TOR online and I like that protocol droids and astromechs are kind of ancient looking . . . things like that.

I feel several changes will need to be made. I've only kind of dabbled in the pre-OT Expanded Universe/Legends stuff, but I am addicted to the Wookieepedia so I know a bit about it.

I know that for one thing the Old Republic lore in general has somewhat changed to reflect certain things mentioned in the PT. Take for instance, not too long ago I was re-watching The Phantom Menace, and I noticed one of the Naboo advisers stated "The Republic has stood for a thousand years" or something, which conflicted from the whole 25,000 years I've heard from various places.

Turns out, at least according to the internet (never read the main source) that the Battle of Ruusan and the reformation of the Republic was created in order to have the EU technically sync with what is said in TPM, while still retaining the 25,000 year-old status of the Republic. Essentially the EU/Legends could be seen as an adaptable beast with such an example.

So I could see many parts of it remaining somewhat intact, since a lot has been invested in it. I'm not sure if re-exploring the same times but with different stories would be profitable or would annoy fans. I vote a mix of "with several changes" and "canon again in some time".

It almost seems like they have to visit this time period in a spin off movie at some point.

There is so much freedom gained in regards to canon by removing yourself so much from the time period surrounding the main episodes.

I don't necessarily need to see Revan or Malak, but the period just seems so much like low hanging fruit.

There is wayyy too much fertile ground here for a new epic saga of its own. I have no "inside knowledge" but just as an outsider I think it would be downright idiotic NOT to explore this era.

No one at Disney or LFL is idiotic IMO, ergo I believe we will see a series born of The Old Republic. However, I don't believe it will be any of the first 3 spinoffs.

Hell, it even conflicted with Obi Wan's line from the original film, "For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic."

But really, I don't think they need to worry too terribly much about continuity with the existing films or with the existing KOTOR games if they decide to go back and do a film series set in ancient times. There's a ton of material from which they can pick and choose, between the games, the Dark Horse comics, etc. Or, they could just as easily come up with something entirely new.

It'd also give them the opportunity to create older, more simplistic looking versions of familiar things like droids, weapons, starships, etc. Also, if they set the time frame back far enough, they could also examine a different sort of relationship between the Jedi and the Force than what we saw in the PT. Perhaps showing the seeds of the chain of cause and effect that led to the PT-era Jedi Order's denial of emotional relationships and the like.

I think there are some great stories to be told there!

I'd love to see old republic movies, but can't determine how likely they are. I hope disney resist the low hanging fruit of just doing 10-12 after this trilogy wraps up. I like the idea of each trilogy being for and starting a new generation.

After ep 9 I'd like to see

    spin off 4
    kotor 1
    spinoff 5
    kotor 2
    spinoff 6
    kotor 3
    spinoff 7
    episode 10

In the TPM novelization, Darth Sidious recalls, "The Sith had come into being thousands of years ago. They were a cult given over to the dark side of the Force, embracing fully the concept that power denied was power wasted. A rogue Jedi Knight had founded the Sith, a singular dissident in an order of harmonious followers, a rebel who understood from the beginning that the real power of the Force lay not in the light, but in the dark. Failing to gain approval for his beliefs from the Council, he had broken with the order, departing with his knowledge and his skills, swearing in secret that he could bring down those who had dismissed him.

He was alone at first, but others from the Jedi order who believed as he did and who had followed him in his study of the dark side soon came over. Others were recruited, and soon the ranks of the Sith swelled to more than fifty in number. Disdaining the concepts of cooperation and consensus, relying on the belief that acquisition of power in any form lends strength and yields control, the Sith began to build their cult in opposition to the Jedi. Theirs was not an order created to serve; theirs was an order created to dominate.

Their war with the Jedi was vengeful and furious and ultimately doomed. The rogue Jedi who had founded the Sith order was its nominal leader, but his ambition excluded any sharing of power. His disciples began to conspire against him and each other almost from the beginning, so that the war they instigated was as much with each other as with the Jedi.

In the end, the Sith destroyed themselves. They destroyed their leader first, then each other. What few survived the initial bloodbath were quickly dispatched by watchful Jedi. In a matter of only weeks, all of them died.

    All but one.

Darth Maul shifted impatiently. The younger Sith had not yet learned his Master's patience; that would come with time and training. It was patience that had saved the Sith order in the end. It was patience that would give them their victory now over the Jedi.

The Sith who had survived when all of his fellows had died had understood that. He had adopted patience as a virtue when the others had forsaken it. He had adopted cunning, stealth, and subterfuge as the foundation of his way-old Jedi virtues the others had disdained. He stood aside while the Sith tore at each other like kriks and were destroyed. When the carnage was complete, he went into hiding, biding his time, waiting for his chance.

When it was believed all of the Sith were destroyed, he emerged from his concealment. At first he worked alone, but he was growing old and he was the last of his kind. Eventually, he went out in search of an apprentice. Finding one, he trained him to be a Master in his turn, then to find his own apprentice, and so to carry on their work. But there would only be two at anyone time. There would be no repetition of the mistakes of the old order, no struggle between Siths warring for power within the cult. Their common enemy was the Jedi, not each other. It was for their war with the Jedi they must save themselves.

The Sith who reinvented the order called himself Darth Bane."

In the canon comic Star Wars #9: Showdown on the Smuggler's Moon, Part II, a Jedi holocron says, "Once, we were brothers in The Force, but from the Hundred-Year Darkness was born, the Sith."

I would love to see all this on film.

I was super-impressed by that new Old Republic video game trailer that was recently released. Not only is the animation top-notch but the visual style and story seems unique. With so little known about the Jedi/Sith history I"m shocked that we don't have at least a few canon novels about TOR by now.

I think it's more likely in a TV series, but I could also see it becoming a movie trilogy. I think they'll take a break from the main story trilogies after IX, after all if they just keep making a new one every other year it wouldn't feel like individual trilogies and they'd have to change actors because no actor is gonna commit to essentially signing their career over to one role indefinitely. I think they keep doing the stand alone movies in even number years, but I think they take a break from the main story and find a new trilogy for 2021 2023 and 2025, then pick back up with the main story in 2026 or 2027. The most likely candidates for this other trilogy in my mind would be Ben Kenobi or KOTOR.
