I enjoyed it very much. It felt raw and awkward, like both characters were in the story. The start of a new generation...

So maybe you can tell me as I've seen the film 4 times now but am still on the fence... did Tasu Leech or his second-in-command perish via rathrars? I think they are never shown getting eaten, which gives me hope we may see mad dog and rama back in a future episode.

I think we see them getting thrashed by the thing and are supposed to assume they died or at least got slowed down immensely.

It's for the best I suppose. Honestly I feel a bit silly, even expecting that Disney of all companies would actually release the mad dog. He's too scary.

Again, awesome. That clip shows the detail of what a real LS fight would look like: Rey stumbles and her LS hits the snow and steam rises up. That clip also reaffirms my stance on how lucky Rey was to be inspired by the Force when she was: Kylo just hammers down, Rey blocks and gets shoved back, she is definitely on the losing end and her weakness is apparent. All the "Rey was just too good for being untrained in the Force" bandwagoner's obviously missed the whole part where she was probably gonna get beat badly till the Force showed up. Instead of "Run Luke!" she got "Whoop ass time: ENGAGE!"

    I would be sooo psyched
If they somehow managed a scene for scene reshot of that final fight in the raid 1 with andi, Rama, and mad dog.

Except with rey, finn, and tasu leech...all my money, they can have it all.

Exactly. She uses her rage and the force to beat Kylo. She uses the force to strengthen her blows and accelerate her movement. Kylo didn't see that one coming.

Bloody loved it, can't way for the blu ray to come out to watch it over and over again. Best saber fight of the film Daisy, was fantastic - a natural athlete. Driver menacing, Chloe Bruce is such a fantastic fighter who really sells the fight. I wish it were longer, that is my only downer. It was one of the best fights ever and aesthetically it was the best saber fight ever.

Does anybody think that Kylo intended to kill them both? Finn maybe??? I'm not sure anymore.

I think he was trying to kill finn
Others seem to think he wasn't
As for rey, I don't believe so.

I don't think he's bothered about Finn. Its a if he dies, he dies approach. Rey nope, he was ordered to take her to Snoke, also personally I believe he has a connection with Rey. Not sure what it is though, could be familiar or even he 'likes' her.

as others stated, i don't think he cares about Finn one way or the other. Rey, he wants to catch. not even for Snoke necessarily, but for himself at this point.

if he just takes her to Snoke, Snoke will do terrible things with her and it's clear from their earlier interactions that Ren isn't really interested in hurting her.

    Meh.

I really wish they didn't approach this duel with the question, 'how do we properly contrive a scenario to give our brave heroine her deserved victory?'

I thought the Finn vs Kylo Ren fight was better. That fight actually felt dangerous. And the finale to it was brutal, unlike anything we've seen before. It's one thing for someone to lose an arm, but the slice up the back was shocking when I saw it.

Everyone's going to want to compare these two fights to all the other fights, but I don't think that's really appropriate to appreciating them. Each trilogies fights have a unique style, and I am glad the Sequel trilogy is establishing it's own character of fights. It really fits the characters too, their a new generation not limited by age or mechanical disability, but also not aided by monastic training and honed skill.

It didn't have the sense of history and gravitas of Kenobi vs Vader (ANH).

It didn't have the fear factor and just dark beauty of the Bespin Luke vs Vader fight.

It didn't have the emotion of the Throne Room battle.

It didn't have the epicness of the main 3 PT battles.

It had a bit of all of them. I enjoyed it. Not one of best. And I was utterly thrown by Rey's advanced abilities. But enjoyable all the same.

I didn't like its conclusion but overall I enjoyed the duel. The combat was at sometimes raw and at others very finessed with a fantastic atmospheric setting, a dark snowy forest emphasising the light and heat of the lightsabers with every blow. The cutting down of trees with the odd blow also drives home to the audience the power of these weapons and I thought all the actors, especially Driver, helped give the impression that they were wielding incredibly powerful and volatile tools, swords composed of pure energy.

I didn't like the excessive stylistic additions in the PT but neither did I like the poor choreography of the OT, this duel in TFA gives me hope that the ST will tread a good middle ground between the two: this porridge lightsaber duel was just right.
