The fight also resembled The ESB duel but with more space .

I really liked the duel. I liked the roughness of both Kylo and Rey's movements and how the trees were cut down by the lightsabers along with the visuals of the snow covered forest. It was an excellent finale to an incredible movie. That said, there are a couple of things I would've preferred to have happened.

I think Rey beating Kylo to the point that she could've killed him was way too far. I think the fight should've ended with Rey clearly holding her own against him and then the ground splits beneath them, leaving them and audience to have a "next time..." moment. As it is, Kylo's not a threatening villain to me anymore. Rey was able to overpower him mentally in the Starkiller Base when they were both fresh, and if anything Kylo should've been in a better headspace than Rey. Rey's scared of him and is strapped to a torture chair in an evil base while Kylo's in his element. So that's a point against him. And then while Kylo was heavily wounded during the fight, Rey had just been tossed 20 ft into the air and knocked out by hitting a tree. So she wasn't at 100% either. So now Rey's going to be trained the next time she fights Kylo and I expect her to mop the floor with him.

With Luke and Vader fighting in both ESB and ROTJ, there was a real tension there because Vader was so intimidating and the last time they fought, Luke had been beaten quite soundly. We'll see what Episode 8 brings.

ironically, Kylo Ren doesn't do anything right in this film. i think it's part of the point that he's really not a very good villain even when he tries to be. nevertheless i suspect Snoke will whip him up to pitt-bull level mean for the next film. i fully expect he'll be very scary in viii and Rey won't know what hit her.

I fully agree with that. It would be very interesting seeing Kylo's evolution from kinda an anti-hero to a big boss with the scar, the lightsaber and maybe an other helmet (the first without a doubt destroyed with the Starkiller Base :( ).

The weird thing though, is that Kylo Ren comes across as very powerful and intimidating during his scene on Jakku. If you compared Vader, Maul, heck even the Emperor to Kylo on Jakku I am sure anyone not aware of the films would guess Kylo was the most badass of the four in terms of raw Dark Side power.

Because of the fact that Kylo actively tried to convert Rey and that he never really tries to hurt her as they fight, I think he was almost assessing her skill level, until she drew on the force and attacked with a ferocity he may not have thought her possible of?
    That one possibility any way.

not sure i would call him an anti-hero, but yep, i think we're in for an interesting evolution (or devolution perhaps). i hope they find some way to replace the helmet without changes. or maybe Phasma found it in the garbage. or maybe Hux picked it up on his way out. hahaha

i love how scary he tries to be on Jakku (and even on Takodana). and how he just keeps unraveling more and more from the moment Poe snots off at him. just a long slow spiral that gains a lot of momentum once he reveals himself to Rey.

like things are going bad enough, but the minute he lets his vulnerability show, it's like he can't stop the floodgate of it. he never regains his composure after that.

viii will either repeat that formula: he starts out strong and get stripped down again, or they'll do a reverse in which he starts out more unhinged and slowly gains back his confidence/control. i'd prefer the latter since we've already seen the former.

I'm sure we will see more of that part that Abrams called "Anti Luke": highborn, coming from a well reputated family, high potential in the force ect. We have seen to much of the Jedi training maybe it is time for some dark side teachings.
I think the helmet makes it return, no need top show it or explain it on screen, not really story important. For example, we never got explanations about the whereabout of falling light sabers and Vaders wardrobe.

i'm totally fine with magically re-appearing helmet. i have no problem with costume continuity baloney (and TFA is already full of it) ~ hahaha

oddly, though, i feel the same about the training; i like the mystique and i also don't especially want to watch Ren get tortured by Snoke (bleh).

Ya agree, but a little bit more about Snoke interpretation of the force, like an explaination from his point of view, like Yoda did in ESB, would be cool. The only other turn to the darkside was a bit rushed, oh you killed a Jedi here is your title, go kill children.

I'd rather see it as Luke not even knowing that Ben IS Kylo until it's too late .

definitely ~ Anakin's turn was so unsubtle in that regard (no real philosophical underpinning). i guess i wouldn't mind knowing why Ren thinks the Dark is really the means to fulfilling his destiny; what it can do that the Light can't. or at least how Snoke has fed that to him.

i just hate Snoke and don't want to have to look at his face. hahaha

he doesn't appear to be confused about Dark and Light.
he's actively trying to be Dark and actively trying to quash his Light.

his confusion seems to be about the Dark being the "right" path for him.

What I loved about it was that it was so raw and emotional like Vader vs Luke.

I think Vader vs Luke had more at stake and more emotional but Rey vs Kylo was really good, explosive and very visual.
