pretty sure this conversation happened at Lucasfilm:

ABRAMS: so the story is this: Han & Leia have a son and he's like late teens, early twenties...

KENNEDY: i want Adam Driver to play him.

ABRAMS: Adam Driver is 32 years old.

KENNEDY: i want Adam Driver to play him.

ABRAMS: even if Han & Leia had him immediately after Return of the Jedi, he'd barely be 29 years old.

    KENNEDY: ....

ABRAMS: okay...so the story is this: Han & Leia have a son and he's 29 years old.

I feel like Rey is *supposed* to be the protagonist. However, in trying to make Rey into some kind of female empowerment icon, they forgot to give her flaws or struggles and so she is not interesting. By comparison, Kylo was allowed to have many flaws and struggles and so his character actually develops and is interesting to watch. The result is basically co-protags.

I think he is meant to be around 30 yep, which for me is too old to do a coming of age teenage angst type storyline they are going for. But obviously works for you I just think if the wanted to have that kind of character and that kind of storyline then 30 is far to old as a starting point.
Of course we all know how rushed this trilogy was and how little planning went into it so it’s quite likely that they didn’t intend to go this route when the cast a 30 year old.

Of course If it doesn’t bother you then that’s great. But I watch these films eslically the Last Jedi and and go why is that 30+ year old acting like a teenager? Sort of similar to latter day Rodger Moore Bond, like your in your nearly 60 mate you can’t act like some one 20 years younger it’s Jarring. But their are people who still love those films and who it doesn’t bother. So it’s personally taste like all of this. And if it doesn’t bother you I’m envious as I want to love these films.

The Sequel Trilogy's protagonist is not Kylo Ren/Ben Solo, because it's based on the story of Rey.

Kylo Ren is a side character who influences the story and character arc of Rey, much like Obi-Wan or Darth Vader influencing Luke and his story arc in the OT.

Kylo is the antagonist, not the protagonist.

Well, Rian, the writer, disagrees with you:
"Rey and Kylo are two halves of our protagonist."

So they are "Dual-Protagonists". TLJ was from Ren's perspective, mainly because to sympathize with him. He made the most active choices. Rey may be the main character, but the Ben Solo's story arc is the focal point.

I agree with the first part when it concerns the Last Jedi. But the second part, about TLJ being told primarily from Kylo's perspective, him having the most active choices and Ben Solo's act being the focal point, I have to disagree.

We learn almost everything about Kylo Ren while we learn almost nothing about Rey. Furthermore Rey is pretty useless in the last 20 minutes. It almost seems like if Rian didn't know what to do with Rey, while Kylo has his most crucials moments during this time. So much for Kylo not being the focal point.

We might learn not everything about Rey, but the distribution of knowledge is different from the focus of narrative. Kylo approaches 50/50 in terms of narrative space and focus, but never actually surpasses Rey in terms of screen time and narrative focus. But you are right when you compare it to TFA. TLJ is definitely more Kylo's film then it was in TFA. But remember the narrative pivot around which the story revolves in VIII is actually Luke.

The funny thing is Kylo has more screen time in TFA than in TLJ. #JustRandomFacts

I'm actually waiting until I can find a valid (not a hacked together piece of junk) copy of the official TLJ script to complete data analysis on character growths for both Rey and Kylo.
I've already done the same for them in TFA, and I want to follow that up with TLJ in like fashion.

Once I locate the script, I'll shortly thereafter get the data pulled and update the analysis. :)
No ETA, as I have no idea when the script will become available.

    Cheers,
    Jayson
