Kylo Ren - Masked or un-masked for Ep.8?

Well he's going to be all scarred up. So he'll probablly look cool, either way. I'm thinking that since he's gone full darkside, and everyone knows he's bad he may go maskless.....However, everyone might think that he's dead, since SK Base blew up like 2 minutes after the duel. So a new mask might be a good disguise. Could even be used to trick the audience.

 

I think he goes just about the same as TFA with the same mask. So maybe like 60/40. I think they will want to do a little dramatic reveal of his scar while he takes off the mask so definitely not maskless the whole time. I think he would want to hide the fact that he was injured by anyone because he wants to seem undefeated and invincible to those who fear him.

 

I hope he has no mask. Actually, I hope he has no shirt too. Actually, now that I think about it, I don't care about the mask if the shirt is off..

 

I think he will wear the same mask for the entire film.

 

I would like for it to be both, just like TFA.

 

I'm saying mask too, and that he might even remove it more reluctantly due to Rey ugyling him up a bit last time. It's already too iconic to go without it.

Which leaves me with a few further thoughts that I'm going to spew onto the internet whether or not anyone wants to hear them: They gave us a really, really good villain this time. He's got all the good stuff from past trilogies in one. The youthful menace of Darth Maul, the masked intimidation and physical stature of Darth Vader, and the power-hungry schemers like Palpatine/Dooku, plus it's a young guy with real acting chops.

 

In the recent canon novel Aftermath by Chuck Wendig there's a scene with a Dark Side historian called Yupe Tashu who claims to have been "trained by the best" in some ancient Sith art.

In that scene Yupe is said to be wearing a red demonic mask.

I wonder if this mask will somehow find its way into Episode VIII and if it might, as a Dark Side Sith relic, give Kylo Ren some increased Force abilities or even a new "persona" (Jungian mask).
He could even switch masks at one point and go back to his classic Kylo look...

Please with mask, without he is not very intimidating.

 

I think that it would be refreshing to have an unmasked villain who does more than just fight and more than just monologues *cough* maul *cough* dooku* so having Kylo unmasked through most part of the movie would be amazing because he's very compelling and maybe have his mask on if he's in an all out brawl in the middle of the battlefield or something ...

 

I'm thinking it will be a different mask. It seemed like he left his Kylo mask on the bridge...and that planet imploded.

 

If I had to guess I'd say that he'll wear the mask more often than not.
Though I do expect at least one scene where he takes it off and we see his scars. Kind of a reversal of his scene in TFA where he takes it off... and he's just a guy.

 

Interesting! The guy sounds like he could have been Kylo's history teacher. Kylo may have modeled his own existing mask on Tashu's mask, like he modeled his lightsaber on some ancient design.

Whatever mask he'll be wearing in VIII, I hope he'll keep it on. I never liked the bit in TFA when Kylo faces Snoke without his mask on. That was anticlimactic; never saw the point of it. He just started to look weak immediately. I want to feel some menace again, please.

 

it will depend on whether he wears that scar as a badge of shame, perhaps.
it certainly marks a huge failure for him, but how vain he is about it (or whether he'd be now more open about his face if he's got his emotions under control) will be really interesting to see.

Adam Driver can actually play scary in a big way ~ and with the scar he might be especially menacing.
i think they made him look very young and very sensitive/vulnerable in TFA, but he could definitely come back in the next one quite terrifying (with and without the mask).

 

I think the mask makes no sense now. He's better off without it.
