A mask is guaranteed so that they can sell action figures. A new mask is likely so that they can sell even more action figures. Which, personally, I'm fine with.

But we will also see him with his mask off. In Hollywood, showing the faces of the stars is required. That's why superheroes can't make it through a movie without getting their masks ripped off. The only characters that are allowed to keep their masks on are the glorified extras - the ones that generally have someone else doing the voice work.

 

You're right...pretty much the more you're paid/the more famous you are the less you hide your face .

 

Hmmmm I'm a fan of the mask... *but* one thing that's been said is this movie takes place *right* after 7... it's possible there isn't even time to make a new mask. Kind of sad... I love the design of his mask in TFA & it provides his character with a lot of intrigue

 

Why would he need a new mask? He still has a perfectly good half- burned one.

Seems like the whole Knights of Ren thing probably requires a mask, and I'm assuming he will still be referred to as Kylo Ren after all (unless folks just start calling him...Ben).

Personally I would love it if he goes without taking the mask off again until IX, just for dramatic effect.

I'm not sure if he was able to recover the one he left inside in time but I highly doubt he's going to have a completely new design for the mask. I know a lot of people think they do stuff just to sell toys but I don't think redesigning a characters look is required. He's already a super cool villain with the cool lightsaber. Probably 80% of SW fans I know said he was their favorite character in the movie. They didn't need to keep making Vader looking cooler for his character to continue selling toys. If you have the TFA concept art book you will see in there it took them forever to decide on Kylo's exact look and when they came up with the one they chose they just knew it was it. I would bet money he looks the same with the mask on. The mask off is a different story obviously.

 

Maybe he had another mask or two tucked away in his closet on the Finalizer.

 

Right. Something like that. I don't get the sense of it being something like when Luke's hand got cut off and he had to make a new saber. It isn't really something of that magnitude. They could just as easily leave it unexplained. You could just assume Hux grabbed it or someone else did etc. I'm not one for leaving things unexplained but it isn't really that huge of a deal I think.

 

Yep, I like the mask enough that I'd be fine with no explanation of its return!

 

Time for a upgrade.

 

I do expect some slight updates to his overall costume for the next installment, including the mask. Same thing happened with Darth Vader between episodes. It will likely not be noticeable to the public at large, but we will point out all the variations with red circles and lines pointing to each and every detail...

 

Adam Driver talked in length how his whole costume, including the lightsaber, is the metaphor for the character - unpolished, raw...

It is entirely rational to assume that Kylo with grow as a character - I see him a lot more in the Dark Side, a lot more focused.
And his new design - including the lightsaber - has to reflect that.

 

I want him masked back up if even just to be in sinc with the knights.

 

it'll be interesting to see whether he polishes up at all.
he might have to look more polished for Snoke's sake, but is he really going to be better underneath it all?
i can totally see them trying to spit-shine him, but he's still a mess.

totally want to see some marauding KOR action in full regalia. that'd be awesome!

 

I'd like to see him without the mask. Adam Driver is a great actor and showing his face more often will only help his performance. That being said, he will definitely have a mask at some point in the film. As the leader of the Knights of Ren, he's gotta put on the mask at some point. We as the audience have seen him unmasked, but as far as I'm aware the only members of the First Order who see him without a mask are Snoke and Hux.

IIRC, it's not made clear in TFA if Kylo Ren's identity as Ben Solo is known to anyone other than Han and Leia. They speak openly about it between themselves because he is their son, but I don't see any reason why they would make that secret public. If I slipped up and fathered the worst villain in the galaxy, I'd keep the list of people who know he's my son pretty short.
