    He's a fascinating character, isn't he?

As Anakin's grandson and Han's son he should have inherited the Falcon, Anakin's lightsaber, Luke's Jedi texts, Chewbacca's companionship, and Han's and Leia's love. But Rey ended up with all of those things, most of them quite by accident.

Kylo Ren says "Let the past die, kill it if you have to," but he can't let go of it himself. The sight of the Falcon drives him into a rage. So does seeing his grandfather's lightsaber. He's obsessed with finishing what his grandfather started, even though his grandfather died before Ben Solo was even born. He's driven to madness by the past, yet he knows he has to let it go. And I think he tries to, but when confronted with anything from his past it's like a switch is flipped inside his head and he can't think of anything else except seizing or destroying it, immediately.

Now he's Supreme Leader. Am I the only one that thinks he simply doesn't care a bit whether or not he's in charge of the First Order? The only things he cares about are in his past. He's ascended to the highest rank the Galaxy far, far away can offer, yet the things he really wants all belong to Rey.

    Including Rey.

He cares about Rey. And she cares about him, when she's not trying to kill him.

She loves him. She hates him. She wants him. She wants him dead. She tries to redeem him. She tries to kill him. #it'scomplicated

They've been inside each other's minds. They each recognize that with the other's help they don't need to be alone. But every time they meet it's with weapons drawn and intent to kill. #reallycomplicated

Is Ben Solo redeemable? Of course. But he's far more interesting this way, so I hope they don't go there.

Is Reylo possible? Of course, but again, it's so much more interesting when she's repulsed but still attracted.

And the First Order? It means nothing to Kylo Ren. Palpatine was the Empire in a way that Kylo Ren shows no interest in ever being for the First Order. I don't expect it to last through Episode IX simply because the guy at the top doesn't care if it falls apart or not.

But he does care about Rey. Can he keep Reylo from falling apart? Or is there too much monster in him? Can he work with Rey to share with her the things she inherited, or will it be like Anakin's lightsaber, pulled apart in the tug-of-war between them?

The answers are in Episode XI, true. But it's the speculation that makes this community so much fun!

No, he's not that fascinating to me. Kylo Ren strikes me as an over privileged man child who resorts to violence or manipulation to get his way or when things don't go his way. And for someone who is supposed to be close to 30, he's rather immature. Kylo Ren also strikes me as one of those typical antagonists you find in some TV movie or episode about some prep school boy killer/criminal. Perhaps characters like that were fascinating 20 to 30 years ago . . . well, at least to me. But not now.

Yes, he is fascinating. There are so many facets to this character; that's why I love him. A villain who's actually human is a rare, beautiful thing.

It's just me, but I prefer my villains evil and my heroes good. Black and White please.
So called realism only confuses people. Case in point Ciena Ree... Serves evil, but Claudia Grey's pen made her sympathetic. Confused me greatly until I realized she serves evil.

Fair enough, but if that's how you feel about Kylo Ren, how do you feel about the "good guys"?

Yoda and Obi Wan recruited Luke to assassinate his father. They lied to Luke about his father's identity while they trained him so he wouldn't decide not to do it.

Yoda tried once to kill Palpatine. Once. After almost all the Jedi were dead and the war was over, and Palpatine's death wouldn't have brought the Jedi back. Then he ran away and hid for 20 years. Then he gets Luke to finish the fight Yoda ran away from.

The Jedi Council refused to train Anakin because he loved his mother and was afraid to lose her.

Mace Windu announced "We will need to take control of the Senate to ensure a peaceful transition of power" from Democracy to Jedi-ocracy.

That's one of the things I loved about Star Wars. Luke Skywalker was good, absolutely good. Tarkin and the Emperor were absolutely evil. Every other character was a shade of grey, and that's what makes them so interesting.

I think part of the trouble with Kylo is that his character has been built with Anakin, Luke, Han, Leia all in his way. He may only want the past to die because he has an issue with having to measure up to it much like todays youth claims when the going get bad. He and Rey have been scripted now to coexist and need each other so the plot will gravitate to that even more now that the storyline with his mother is done. That line could have saved him in many ways including as a character but now it comes down to what JJ sees for THEM! IMHO at least.

If Kylo is just like Anakin, does that mean at the end he will sacrifice himself to save Rey by destroying the FO from the inside?
Who is the main villain of IX in that case? Snoke reborn? Hux?

This has been my problem all along with what Johnson has done. We don't know because there is not an emperor like character to drive the dark side thing only Kylos hate/issues now. Actually, I see her saving him when the KOR or Hux get tired of him being obsessed with her.

He cares about being in charge of the First Order only because it grants him full authority and power. If he won't be given respect, he's going to demand it through force. He's got so much power now, that he's going to be crazed in Episode 9 I think. He will either be isolated at the top of the first order chain-of-command and use his isolation to grow stronger in the force, or he'll be full out insane and just scorch the whole galaxy

Snoke created a monster, and the monster slayed Snoke. Now the monster is in charge. Kylo has got good in him, sure -- but the more he deliberately chooses the dark path -- the more his light will disappear.

I would very much like to know where the name "Kylo Ren" came from. It has to have something to do with the Knights of Ren. I really hope this is explained. With Darth Maul we learned that "Darth" is a title instead of a first name, as we thought for many years. Is "Kylo" a title? What is the significance of the word "Ren". It appears in two character names (Kylo Ren and Knights of Ren). Was this name given to him or did he choose it? Why change names at all? Probably simply because he idolizes Vader and he changed his name so Ben was going to do the same. I hope there is some mention of this in TROS.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ren was a title given to all the Knights of Ren. But as for the name "Kylo," who knows? Why is Vader called Vader? Why is Maul called Maul?

Oh but he is. Anakin became what he is out of love and feeling of being superior.

Kylo well we do not really know why Kylo plays in the dark other than possible Snoke influence.

Maul is at least somewhat descriptive. Vader, I believe, is a variation on "invader". Sith names seem to me menacing words or adjectives. So far, Kylo and Ren have no meaning, which is why I want to know more about them. If Ben Solo turns to the dark side, but is not a Sith, why isn't he just Ben Solo? It's not a BIG deal, but it's annoying that there's this aspect of him that's just there and never mentioned. I suppose it's possible that his true identity is the issue, but why would it be? Did he just pick a new name to not be Ben Solo? If that's the case then fine, a name's just a name. But add the Knights of Ren and now there seems to be more to it, but it's not addressed. Are the Knights of Ren named such simply because they were placed under the command of Kylo Ren, who chose his name randomly, from a galactic phone book?

I feel like his name and the Knights of Ren are the victims of JJ Abrams' mystery boxes.

Actually Kylo Ren is a much better character than Anakin. In all the ways you can imagine.
I don' t feel sympathy for Anakin, actually I don't feel anything about this character, and everyone knows why...
Kylo Ren is a spoiled child but he is not annoying. He has traces of a perturbed person, someone bipolar, someone that keeps a big resentment and this is destroying him by inside.
Very excited to know what will be his end (or not) in TROS.

JJ Abrams said that it was Kylo's incredible misguided power what made him prone to the dark side and Snoke's influence. It was in one of the interviews before TFA.
I know that the novels talk about the influence of Snoke on Kylo while in the womb, but that's not the way JJ or Kasdan explained it.
    --- Double Post Merged, Sep 18, 2019, Original Post Date: Sep 18, 2019 ---
GL turned "Darth" into a title in the PT. Just as easily JJ can turn "Ren" into the name of an chivalric Galactic order in TROS... or a modification of Ben and the knights are called "of Ren" because they belong to Ren/Ben...

All of the speculating before TRoS reminds me of being a kid and debating with my friends about Vader being Luke's father before RotJ. I thought Vader was lying, but I was wrong. I still loved the movie though and those debates were just part of the hype leading up to it. I hope people don't get so attached to their ideas of what they think should happen that it hurts their enjoyment of the movie if it doesn't go the way they think. Being surprised can often make me enjoy things more, and there is potentially a lot of misdirection going on. TRoS could change how we see a lot of things. Can't wait to do marathons of the entire saga afterward!
