SPECULATION Kylo Ren's New Mask and Saber in VIII?

yeah, that first scene is too early in the film for him to just be "poof: no mask!" so i can totally see why they cgi'd it. i'm curious about it, though, because they could have just reshot it, even with a body double. it might also be that Driver's face telegraphs waaay too much there. with the mask, his response is definitely more ambivolant.

i also thought it odd that Ren would be wandering around after the Falcon with no mask when he never takes it off in front of anybody of "no" consequence. they may have been playing with the idea of him wearing it less and decided afterwards to cut /change these scenes because it just makes sense that he would hide his face more in this installment.

toys: yeah, actually saw those in the store. again with the marketing, i think they were playing it safe since his face is treated as a big deal reveal in the final cut.

i think it works for the better this way. i think now that things will have changed for him after vii, seeing him more without the mask in viii will make sense too.

 

I imagine the scene with the Falcon like this: Snowtroppers are searching the ship, then Kylo enters (wearing his mask) enters the cockpit, sit's in the pilot seat, removes the mask and has an emotional moment...Then (according to the novelization) he sees the Resistance ships arriving and as he is still emotional goes out to see what's going on and forgets to put back the mask for a bit...
They probably cut that scene, as while it is a very important moment (which I really regret was cut) this also diminishes the impact of seeing him take the mask for Han...Something along this lines...

 

yeah it's hard to tell if his expression is so tortured in that picture because it's cold and the wind is blowing in his face or if he's on the verge of a meltdown. though he kinda always seems just a little on the verge....

 

Agree. I'm just speculating...really want to see this scene...

 

I understand all the reasons why they'd move away from the mask, but that mask helped drive (pun intended) TFA merch machine. Personally, I adore it and I'd like to see it return if only for a few scenes.

 

Maybe he loses his hand at the beginning of VIII ...

Why would Kylo Ren make a mask out of Darth Vader's?
A. There's nothing wrong with his mask
B. He uses Darth Vader's mask as a shrine. It's probably his most prized possession, he would no longer have Darth Vader's mask, and he could lose it if it's damaged in battle.

 

I think, that since Sw takes place in real-time, ahvifn it happen in the beginning would allow for more tiem with akylo's craziness .

 

Not to sound offensive, but that's ridiculous. Why on earth would you add a new villain that looks the same as the old one?

nothing wrong except that he left it on the catwalk on Starkiller and unless Hux is prone to picking up his things, it's gone supernova.

but in all seriousness, i agree. he'll either just get another one or dispense with it altogether (or for the most part). if his Ren mask wasn't a facsimile of Vader's i don't see why he would go that route now.

 

Exactly. There's no point in merchandising Kylo Ren's mask if it was just replaced with a new one in VIII. He's going to keep the same style of mask.

 

Yeah, I think it will be a similar style but enhanced/modified to resemble Vader's more. It makes sense from a profit perspective and would make both the VII and VIII masks that much more valuable.

Also, the fact that he dropped the mask right before the highly symbolic scene of the light fading, darkness rising with him killing Han, along with the line "it's time to complete his training" from Snoke afterwards, Ren is going to appear very fresh in this next episode.

That last fight wasn't clear to me. Did Ben lose any ligaments and how badly was he scarred?

 

no arms fell off but Finn did slash his arm Rey slashed his face and a little bit more

 

someone cataloged Ren's wounds in another thread, but here's the gist of it:

1 bowcaster shot to the abdomen (Chewie)
1 poke wound to the right shoulder (Finn)
1 poke wound to the left shoulder (Rey)
1 possible slash to the knees (Rey cuts his surcoat and he does stumble, but it's unclear whether she grazes anything)
1 slash from the neck upward, cutting through the chin, right cheek, and glancing off the brow. (Rey)

....and a partridge and a pear tree.

there's no clear indication that she wounded him in the hand when she disarmed him, but she may well have ~ though she definitely didn't cut anything off.

 

not to mention the mental injuries:
a. Mental trauma after Rey's mindprobe
b. Severe mental trauma after killing Han

But he still kept going. That Kylo Ren is a bullet sponge....
