Can't read it because no subscription but will say this..

    1) JJ could have avoided the ANH-reboot criticism by not going overboard with the whole deathstar 3.0. storyline which just didnt work as intended as shows by how many people bring that up. All the other stuff, while certainly very much reminiscent of ANH, would be more easily forgiven as it's used in a different way. "It's familiar but different" to quote the filmmakers themselves. :)

    2) I personally hope that a lot of the flaws aren't flaws at all but deliberate witholding information by JJ/Kasdan in planning out the trilogy with Johnson. Only time will tell.

    3) Wouldnt call it dull. In contrary I think a lot of people (even those who are not SW-fans) enjoyed TFA so much because it was an exciting thrill-ride with characters that evoked emotions in a film that tickled the imagination. So much so that people where willing to overlook or accept certain shortcomings as 'fun' is ultimately maybe more important than perfect. ;-)

Major publications are starting to see this film for what it is.

I hate it when editorials try to instruct me what to think. "admit it" - what? That things such as the enjoyment of movies are completely subjective and can vary from person to person?

Stupid, clickbait title. And for the record, I'd have just as much issue with "Admit it - The Force Awakens rocks". If you enjoyed TFA, good for you, if you didn't, good for you. I don't need a columnist to tell me either way.

Ever heard of Hitler's big lie? Tell a lie so big and so frequently that eventually everyone will believe it's true.

This is basically what happened with the majority of TFA's supposedly unbiased critical reviews leading to the 95% tomatometer.

Good to see however that there are at least a few honest reporters left who care more about the truth than getting a pat on the back from their editor-in-chief and a fat check in the mail from Disney.

    Dull for long stretches?

Article lost any credibility right there. If anything there's too much going on.

Again, it's not a perfect movie but it's good, entertaining, fun, etc.

Or...heaven forbid; I actually enjoyed the movie and like the movie and like multiple technical attributes of the film and plan on buying the bluray and going through it shot by shot...

It's fine to hate or like this film, but why does anyone need to try to rationalize why other people hate or like this film?
So what? People like it; people hate it.
Not everyone who hates it lacks in some capacity of comprehension or loyalty, and not everyone who likes it is just caught up in the hysteria or in denial.
Some folks actually just hate the bloody movie, and some folks actually just enjoyed it.

It's art. That's how art is received.

This is hysterical. Don't believe anyone who says they like The Force Awakens, it's a Hollywood conspiracy!

    Good grief.

I can paint the mona lisa and most people wouldn't know the difference. DFF would and you wouldn't. That is the difference.

Most people aren't critical thinkers, they tend to follow the herd, rather than coming to their own conclusions.

The MSM says TFA is great, so this is what the herd believes, and they refuse to see it any other way.

In your judgement of my person; the reason that I enjoy Star Wars is inherently that I lack a culturing of skill for quality art?

I don't know why DFF keeps getting trolling remarks. This guy has and still does love Star Wars. He's been on these boards for over 10 years! Trolling would be US going to a star trek board and trashing it. Give the guy some space. It's his views and he has a right. Trolling is the LAST thing he is doing.

He's saying you can't tell the difference between a real star wars movie and a cheap Chinese knockoff.

They want to marginalize me so that other people doesn't listen to what I have to say.

They do the same thing to me and claim I love Episode 2 and think the prequels are gods gift to cinema. These TFA defenders are pathetic.

They can't refute either of these points, and they know it, so they go for the path of least resistance: attacking the messenger.

(gamorrean)Why are you negative people wasting your time here if you didn't like it?

"Nothing in the universe is perfect" - Hawkins

This movie has choices in it that are questionable and could've been handled differently but thats really only an opinion. It's a really solid movie overall. This movie will stand the test of time. I have e a good feeling about it. (Optimistic)

"ADMIT IT" You've never seen a movie like this even though it has similarities to other movies.

If you don't like the movie, that's your perogative. But attempting to summarily dismiss the opinions of those that liked it as some sort of brainwashed groupthink smacks more of petulant sour grapes than any sort of enlightened consciousness.
