I hope he does return in episode VIII and if he does I want to see how Han's death impacts him.

I really, really, really do NOT want to see Lando in the new trilogy. He is just not that important a chracters to lug around for no reason. I would rather see the series move forward without dragging along everything from the OT.

Eh, while Lando isn't as important as the big three, he's still pretty important. As for them lugging him around, if does make an appearance, I'm sure that it will be handled in proper way that doesn't drag the story down.

Even if we just hear his voice on a transmission of some sorts would be enough for me

Well the support is there with Han gone it would be a good move for Rey & Chewie to co-pilot with Lando in the back seat barking out his concerns
Oh sure that one more yeehaa!!! to remember.

I would at least like to see him in a short bit of the film. Even seeing Nien Nunb and Admiral Ackbar in Episode VII was minor, but had an everlasting impact. With Han dead, I do not see why Billy Dee Williams can't come back and take the role of Lando in the sequel trilogy. We as Star Wars fans don't need him to come back, but his arc is not complete like the rest of the characters. BDW is getting up there in age and in his mobility to walk around a lot. I just need to see him come back and go down in heroic glory. Would love to see him finish a mission for the Resistance. Maybe this is who Luke is going to meet on the planet where they are about to start filming in Croatia? More than likely it will be to meet Laura Dern's character or Kelly Marie Tran's OR possibly BOTH of them. We will have to wait and see. With rumors of stuff around the corner for Rogue One and its trailer release, do you think maybe we will get some more news about Episode VIII on Star Wars Day, May 4 or will we potentially get the casting announcement of our new Han Solo for the spinoff?

given how the plot of TFA is structured (I mean we don't meet ANY of the OT cast again until around halfway through the movie. The first half is all about setting up the next cast and characters and the new status quo), I don't know where you would have fit him in without it just being a pretty unsatisfying cameo. I mean even Leia doesn't even come in until the end of the second act/beginning of the third.

But the next two films, now that a lot of the set-up is done, don't necessarily have that problem. Also it's hard to imagine Han dying and then us NOT getting to see Lando's (who knew and was friends with him even before Luke and Leia were) reaction to it.

As much as I would love to see Lando return, I dont see any reason (at the moment) why he should. If (and thats a big IF) we see Han's funeral or see the OT and ST heroes visit Han's grave, Lando could make an apperance. Other than that I dont see the need for Lando in the ST story..

While I agree that he's not essential to the narrative, the same is true of Chewbacca, C3PO, Nien Nubb, etc. The only characters from the OT that are 'needed' in Ep. VIII are Luke and Leia. However, seeing Lando in Ep. VIII in a minor role (more than just a cameo) would be welcomed by the majority of fans if he had some import to the proceedings besides "hey look, it's that guy from Empire!". I think perhaps he can be used as a source of intelligence related to the criminal underworld, maybe giving Finn and Poe some helpful information regarding whatever mission they will be on.

Yeah I think that, at this point, it would be purely for fan service.

There's really no point in a funeral for Han seeing as how billions of people across 5 planets died on the same day including the resistance pilots who perished too.

Now if there were a memorial for everyone lost because of starkiller (destroyed by it or died trying to stop it) then yeah.

There's no reason for an individual funeral for Han. We viewers would want it, but in universe there's no reason for them to have it. (Especially since there's no body. It would be like Leia giving Bail an individual funeral in A New Hope, when the rest of the planet blew up too)

I saw that this thread was bumped and my hopes soared.

At least the Lego guys have confirmed that Lando is still alive during "Force Awakens." And that he also knows Maz Kanata.
