Last Minute Changes to The Force Awakens?

Discussion in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' started by jedimasterjohnny, Dec 19, 2015.

?

Do you think the ending of the Force Awakens was changed to retain key info over Rey's parents?

  1. They shortened the ending to hold back the reveal of Luke as Rey's father.

  2. They shortened the ending but it wasn't because Luke is Rey's father.

  3. The ending wasn't purposefully shortened but Luke is still her father.

  4. The ending wasn't purposefully shortened and Luke isn't her father.

Ok so I briefly went into this on another thread but ive been thinking about it a lot so i thought i would make a thread about it to hear what more people thought. Does anybody else think that a lot of information was taken out of the final cut in order to retain mystery for episode 8? Mostly im talking about Luke possibly being Rey's father. There are a couple of reasons I suspect this.

    1. Daisy Ridley alluded in an interview a month or two ago that the answers to Rey's parentage would be answered in the movie.
    2. They were rumors that the flashback scene in Maz's castle was cut and originally had more information.
    3. The ending didn't seem to have a lot of dialogue in it, Rey says bye to Leia and is left the falcon to find Luke without any explanation of why she is the one going to him.
    4. This is J.J.'s film and we all know about his mystery box.

For everything said above i think that they were going to also have the reveal of Rey Skywalker at the end of the movie but held back to increase anticipation for Episode VIII.

    1. Daisy Ridley's actual answer was more along the lines of "the big question would be revealed."
    2. It wasn't so much cut, as it was repurposed... originally it was Maz explaining the path of the lightsaber, and had little to do with Rey. The final version in the film had bits of this, and more about Rey. The portion with young Rey on Jakku didn't even make it into the novelization.
    3. Star Wars films never have dialogue in the last few minutes of the film. This was keeping in that tradition, and I'm fairly certain they never planned on Luke saying anything to her.... the last lines spoken in the book are actually Rey speaking to Chewbacca when they are leaving D'Qar.
    4. Why reveal everything in VII? Luke's parentage wasn't fully explained until TESB/ROTJ...

Looking to much into this, however I believe the movie had problems with editing.
