CALL ME BY YOUR NAME - I understand the love behind this film but it honestly just wasn't for me.
It's well made and incredibly well performed. It will win big at awards no doubt.

Dunkirk - It wasn't bad, but not alot of emotion in it to me. But I kind of found it underwhelming.

That sums up most Nolan works IMO.
It's almost never bad but can really lack emotion.
And when he tries emotion, you get Interstellar. (I am not a fan of that film)

I wasn't a fan of Interstellar either. I found it pointless and meandering. Most of it was pretty silly.

Nolan is so good at the technical aspects of it, but really can lack that emotional punch needed to get you into things.

Alien Covenant and Nocturnal Animals, two of the greatest movies ever made. I also watched some of Flatliners (1990), and My Cousin Rachel

LADY BIRD - Pretty good. I get why it sat at 100% for so long on RT. It's not spectacular though and honestly won't stick with me for too long after seeing it. There's nothing inherently bad about it and for me there was nothing incredibly risky or incredibly about it. Like an artsy version of Edge of Seventeen. One of the story arcs really lends itself to a lot of awards voters, so I get it.

I, TONYA - pretty much a pure vehicle for the actors to show off. And they do. They carry the whole thing. Start to finish. It's all about Margot Robbie, Allison Janney and Sebastian Stan. I don't like a lot of the directing choices made.

The Darkest Hour -- which was a huge disappointment. Good performances and okay script but everything in it save one completely fictional scene has been dramatized before, many times, and in a very similar manner in The Gathering Storm/Into the Storm. I'm a huge Churchill buff but there's a scene in this movie that jumped the shark for me. Churchill decides to overcome his fear of public transport and take a ride on the underground and ask the "common person" if Britain should make peace with Germany or not -- on the train there is an interracial couple. Now, I find WC fascinating and he did some very impressive things but he definitely had 19th C. notions about "race". To see him swapping Shakespeare quotes and shaking hands with some random Jamaican and smiling approvingly on an interracial couple, inferring that the England he wanted to preserve was a safe haven for such things is...beyond belief. WC was fighting against the dismantling of the British Empire, he stooped to some really outrageous racist statements when attacking Gandhi, that's what he was preserving, not an enlightened free society. It's sad to see someone who did some great things and played an important role in WWII also display an entrenched, Victorian, paternalist view of "race" but them's the facts. The scene totally killed the movie for me. It's totally fabricated and it "white washes" reality in a way that's not acceptable.

Arrival. I really love that film, but my daughter hadn't seen it & she's home for the holidays.
Needless to say, it's an outstanding mother/daughter flick, especially for women who like scifi.

THE SHAPE OF WATER - Film making brilliance. The aesthetic. The sound. The direction. The colors. The acting. Just brilliant. This is Guillermo's second masterpiece and I hope come awards season, it's given that sort of credence.
