Thor: Ragnarok-I won't mention what time this was for me, but the theater I was in was pretty packed, which I found nice and surprising since it's been out for over two months at this point.

    The Shape of the Water

i liked it a lot (and am a fan of Del Toro's work in general).
it wasn't complicated and the characters are kinda one-note, but it's just a sweet modern fairy tale with lots of lovely detail for the period.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2-Great movie, but this time I noticed The Grandmaster is in the movie during the credits. *mind blown*

Jumanji... the new one. Most fun & freshly entertaining movie I've seen in months. I had zero expectations going in. I can find The Rock & Jack Black to be a little too much, but I thoroughly enjoyed it (way more than that December sci-fi movie that I cannot mention here).

    Goodbye Christopher Robin

so...Hux is married to a completely self-absorbed floozy and is suffering from undiagnosed/untreated PTSD after fighting in the trenches of WWI.
he finds a modicum of peace in playing with his son's toys in the forest, parlays that into an international bestseller.
the kid grows up rightfully feeling emotionally abused.
there are also a few moments when you think Hux might actually physically harm him because he's so effed up.

folks, this is not a feel-good film. the ending also sort of takes a lazy path down melodrama lane.
and while it ends on a note of what may be something like reconciliation, this highly dysfunctional family mostly suffers for 2 hours: not a good time.
good performances by all, though much of it is period-accurate stuffy British people being very cold and emotionally unavailable.
it's definitely period-accurate (and very nice work too), but hard to watch.

So, I saw two films films today Darkest Hour and The Post. Darkest Hour is your standard Oscar-bait biopic with a standout main performance. The Post, however, surprised me. It had an engaging story, great acting and good score. Its comparisons to Donald Trump are slightly too obvious and I had a weird issue with its shot composition (most of the characters had theit hair cut off while standing and it bothered me so much...) but it was genuinely great. So, go see The Post.

The Foreigner - Starring Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnon. I've seen most if, not all Jackie Chan movies and they are fun and comedic and never takes himself too seriously. Well, this movie is quite different and it's quite serious. His daughter dies in an act of political terrorism and takes revenge. As much as I was looking forward to him in action again...that's the part that was missing...him, mostly. However, he does cry. Kind of a disappointing movie and made me wanna cry.

The Avengers-Ah, the old days when Cap and Iron Man kind of got along and Loki was the only messed up Thor sibling trying to conquer. Memories. Lol.

Avengers: Age of Ultron-I know many don't like it, but I do, and that's all that matters. ;) Though I must say, Snoke can't catch a break! This time he lost an arm. :p

Saw the post today, awesome true story that pitted a newspaper against the government. Great performances by Meryl Streep & Tom Hanks.

    Finally saw The Post.
It's quite good. Everyone in it gives a very good performance. Streep isn't nomination worthy but she's Streep so whatever.
Spielberg frames it in a way that can keep your attention and builds necessary suspense.
I fear we may be approaching the underrating of Spielberg at this point.
This movie is a career highlight for 99% of filmmakers. But it's kind of looked down on because it's Spielberg with Hanks and Streep and we expect nothing short of Schindler's List 2.0 or whatnot.

Murder on the Orient Express is a solid little film.
I love Kenneth Branagh as Poirot. He's a riot.
Daisy Ridley is charming as hell.
It's nothing terribly new or exciting but it's an enjoyable romp for 2 hours.

Finally rented Wind River tonight... brilliantly shot, well acted and executed - but by the gods the sound mix for the voice track is awful, you could barely hear what anyone was saying at several points... but amp up the volume and the next vehicle on screen would deafen!
