I enjoy it but I personally wouldn't put it in the Top 3, but maybe I would put it in the Top 5. I have to go with From Russian With Love as the best.

This one, Goldeneye and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are the best Bond movies ever made, at least for me.

I've never been that big into OHMSS. It's one of those that people either seem to love or hate but I don't have strong feelings about it either way. It's not really the fault of the movie though, and I think Lazenby was OK (which often seems to be the main gripe of the haters), they just followed the book which was one of the lesser Bond novels in my opinion. Blofeld's scheme is pretty cartoonish even by Bond standards. It has its moments though.

GoldenEye is one of my favorites but Die Another Day isn't just the worst Bond movie (in my opinion) but one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Bond needed a reboot after that mess.

Lazenby's Bond was just different and the whole movie had a fresh take on the Bond theme itself. What I like about this movie: It's a completed story with a beginning, a middle and an ending.

You pretty much watched the best and the worst Bond movie. Haha!

Back to the actual topic: I've just watched "The First Purge". It was mediocre at best. The only good Purge movie is still the first one.

    The Meg.

An exploitation film without any exploitation. It sets up so many winks and nods to the genre but never winks nor nods. It lacks any real violence and relies on lame kills for shocks, which there is none. It's bland. It's predictable. The dialogue is so generic you can basically say the lines without knowing them. The production value is so high it is easy to confuse this for a competent movie. It's fine. it's inoffensive. But it's a shark movie. It needs SOMETHING to be offensive. The worst thing it can be is just fine. It's forgettable. The "characters" are crap. Half play it silly. Half play it serious. It doesn't work. Cliff Curtis, Rainn Wilson and the little girl are the only "characters" worth a damn. But even then they get such little play, it's useless to have them. Speaking of useless; Ruby Rose. You have Jason Statham and Ruby Rose in a movie and they don't actually do anything exciting. Rose stands around and talks. And sits and talks. And floats in water and talks. The smart black scientist turns into a blathering idiot after the first act, like he was told to "Chris Tucker it up." The acting on the whole is crap. The Asian actors do their best but the language barrier can be glaringly rough too often. Statham just does Statham...but in water. There are zero characters here. Just tropes. They don't explain the plot at all. There's a barrier keeping the sharks in the deepest trenches and no one knows they exist and no one has been there but in the open there's an attack on the submarine by a shark and that means either the sharks are out in the wild or...and the titular star...THE MEG. What a Maclunkey let down. 0 memorable kills. No epic introduction. It's barely on screen. When it is, it's either an extreme close up in a jarring action shot or in the dark water or from above and you just see the fin? What. The. Blast. Even when the shark gets to an infested with people beach, the kills are weak and barely noticeable. Does he even kill anyone there? Maybe a few. It's bizarre. This movie needed a dose of charm and charisma more than anything else. You shouldn't root for the shark in this movie, but you do. The scientists are the ones who piss the shark off (not just the obligatory bad scientists but even the good ones) and so the shark is really an innocent in this whole thing just doing shark things. Like in Jurassic World, you root for the dinos to eat the bad people because they're just doing dinosaur things. Yet it plays it like you should be rooting for the people. You root for the shark to just end the movie after EACH FAKE ENDING too. Which you know is fake and they drag these scenes out to endless amounts and make it awkward. Anyways, it has a 150+ million budget so it looks nice but that's about the end of it. It's too dark when the actual cool blast is on screen.

TLDR: Don't pay for this. Watch Sharknado instead because at least that knows it's dumb.

That's too bad. I was kind of interested by its dumb premise. I guess I'll just go amd watch Incredibles 2 for the third time instead.

I read the book. It's ridiculous and gory and absurd.
    This...was not that.
Once they dropped it to PG, any hope I had died.

    Blackkklansman

there was all sorts of crazy up in this movie.
it was slow out of the gate, but by the end you felt like you'd been punched in the face.
yes, it's a bit in your face and on the nose, but given the state of things, maybe it has to be.

whether Washington wants to be or not, he's just like his father (and i mean that in all the best ways).
Harrier is awesome, though i felt like they kind of left her character hanging.
Driver was ridiculous. but then he always is.
and there was a surprise cameo in here from a 91 year-old actor who almost made me cry.

i've seen other reviews warning people about the ending of this movie. i'm repeating that warning here.

I think that On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the best Bond film as well. Even if GL wasn't the best Bond. Goldfinger is another favorite, and I love The Man with the Golden Gun and For Her Eyes Only for personal reasons. I grew up in the Roger Moore era, and they were my first ones.

Last movie I saw, I watched Dark Victory, the old Bette Davis film with my 17 year old son on tv. I play old movies for him, and he hadn't seen this one before.
Really want to catch this one.

Yeah, Moore's my guy as well. I would never call it the "best" but for nostalgic reasons A View To A Kill is one of my favorites because it was the first Bond movie I saw when my dad took my brother and I to see it in the theater when I was 5 and saw it countless times as a kid because HBO played it almost daily. Also... Walken, Duran Duran, Tanya Roberts, etc. His best in my opinion was The Spy Who Loved Me.

MY favorite Bond film is Thunderball, For your Eyes only is another good one... oh man, I love Bond films. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the one Bond gets married, Goleneeye, From Russia with Love... the list goes on and on...

Yes go see BlackLansman all Americans should. I was born in 1969... I remember my family went to an all white neighborhood to look at a home. All the doors front doors opened like a domino effect. I was 7 years old I didn't know the difference between white and black but I could feel the fear in my mother and father. The stupid realtor that took us to that neighbor hood drove us out of there before we got roasted alive. I will never forget that day, and i will tell everyone till the day I die.

    I
Agree with you on TSWLM being the best Moore one. I remember seeing The Man with the Golden Gun as a kid in the back of a station wagon in the drive in and being a fan ever since. For Her Eyes Only was the first in a theater. I got hooked after the drive in and watched them when they played them on tv usually Saturday night with commercials.

I'm not too big on the bulk of TMWTGG but the climactic duel between Bond and Scaramanga is so awesome it's worth sitting through the whole movie for. Oh, and this part...

Yes, GL isn't the best Bond. I think Pierce Brosnan (yeah, unpopular opinion) is the best one, even though his Bond movies aren't that great. His Bond combines everything. The good looks, he's a gentleman but also cold blooded agent etc.

I agree with that mostly. I've never called him the best Bond (because of all his films not named GoldenEye) though I've always said he was the best Bond actor who was unfortunately saddled with mostly bad movies. Like you said, he had it all... except the scripts. But even in his worst movies he's still good, he was the perfect blend of the cinematic and literary Bond. And sadly he was mostly wasted on them. He was as likable as Moore but as believable as Craig when it came to the serious/gritty.

By the way, I realized too late I said "From RussiaN With Love" earlier. Can't believe I did that lol.

As for the last movie I watched...

One of my Top 10 MST3K episodes. I've never seen the movie without the help of Mike and the Bots... but why would you want to?
