How does it stack up to the original in terms of body mass?

More gore and more kills. Lot of "redshirts" eat it early on.

My bad, guess you didn't see that episode of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia where Mac apparently judges how good a movie is by how buff the actors are.

    The Dark Crystal

What a nice movie to rewatch. The puppets, the paintings, the scenarios...everything very well done. This movie has a great feeling of adventure and fantasy, not easy to find in these days.

Finally got around to watch my second period movie - Heneral Luna (2015). It is the first time I've even heard about Phillipines making movies, so hearing what they have to say is by interesting enough by itself. It is set during Philippine–American War in 1898 and is about said General Antonio Luna, who is willing to fight for independance till the end, against both the Americans and more "compromising" Phillipine politicians.
By "obscure country" standarts the movie is well made and does feel at times like it's made with love. But it's also rather blunt with it's messages, especially by the end.
It's still worth a watch, for learning a new persperctive, if nothing else. Before watching, I would advise a quick glance through Wikipedia. Also, I know Americans are unused to their country and soldiers being portrayed negatively, so be warned.

Just finished watching Shadow of a Doubt, one Hitchcock's thrillers from the 1940's. Well, it's Hitchcock, so of course it was great. Good plot, great performances, a really solid picture. What's more interesting about it is the behind the scenes info. One of the credited screenwriters for this film was Alma Reville, Hitchcock's wife and a long-time collaborator. Interestingly, after Stage Fright she stopped writing but her involvement in Alfred's pictures remained strong. I wonder why that was the case...

    PS. Well, here's the reason:

Leave No Trace - a masterclass in story telling. incredible film. incredible performances. Ben Foster likely gets shafted, again, sadly

Got to watch My Hero Academia: The Two Heroes tonight. It was surprisingly good and I'm glad I got to see it! My schedule makes it so that it was a gamble at best. The theater was pretty packed despite the late showing, sot that's a good sign for the series as a whole. And other than the slight issue of everyone seemingly having telepathy I don't have any major complaints. Now the only question is if they can keep that up for the inevitable next animated movie in the series (Pokémon, Digimon, Naruto, and Bleach all had great first movies too. After that it was hit-and-miss).

Another day, another Hitchcock. This time it was Rope, an on-screen adaptation of a play with Jimmy Stewart in its cast. The dialogue feels theatrical but the story is interesting enough and the acting is really great, so you quickly forget about this particular quality. I like how it was shot and edited to make it seem like the whole film was done in one take. Also, the lighting. I love how lighting was used in the key scene of the film. A great film, and short too (just 80 minutes long!). Also, Technicolor candlelight... So beautiful.

Yesterday @RockyRoadHux and I watched "The House with a Clock in its Walls". It started kinda promising, but it went downhill very quickly. So, the movie was okay at best.

Rocky and I noticed that the young boy's journey or arc is quite similar to Rey's one. Interesting...

The movie started out so good, yes, however the last third dragged on forever... and with Ely Roth being the one directing it I really hoped that the movie was going to push for what can be in a PG rated film, and for it being more like Krampus, or Gremlins maybe.

    On DVD

The Miracle Season:starring Helen Hunt and William Hurt about a High School volley ball team in Iowa that lost it's star player in an accident when she was driving home one night on her moped ending up wrecking somehow into a tree and died on impact. Not the greates tragic to feel good story but, it had heart and it was based on real life events. Caroline Found the player who died you got a sense that she was just this free floing kid who loved everyone and people loved her right back. Over 4,000 people came to her funeral.

In the credits it showed the real life Caroline in videos and she seemed like the happiest kid and enjoyed life.

Life of the Party with Melissa McCarthy - I'm not a real big fan of her but she's done funnier stuff. It's about a woman and husband who take their daughter to College and as they're leaving the husband tells her she wants a divorce, so she decides to stay and go to College and finish her degree in Archaeology.

This movie was terrible and not much life to it. No real heart and pretty bland considering Melissa herself co-write it.

    At the Theater

A Star is Born with Bradley Cooper who both directed and wrote the screenplay, Sam Elliot and Lady Gaga. This is surprisingly a great movie it I like this remake a lot better than the original. And Lady Gaga though not a fan was really good as well. It's a touching movie, great cinematography, well acted and full of emotion

What do you mean by "the original?" The Barbra Streisand version from 1976? Or the Judy Garland one from 1954? Or the actual original from 1937? There's also a 1932 What Price Hollywood that was so similar to the 1937 film that the producers of the former one accused the producers of the latter one of plagiarism. This question way more complicated than it seems. ;)

Now to the film itself - I've really liked it! The cast was good, the songs even better and the story of a man struggling to accept that his wife is overshadowing him felt like a surprisingly good companion piece to... Incredibles 2.

Sorry. I meant the Barbara Streisand one.

I also liked Crazy Heart. Did you ever see that? I always felt it kind of lifted things from that movie too. As well as the movie Country Strong kinda similar.

Jeff Bridges won his Oscar for it.
It's a good flick by Scott Cooper.

Colin Farrell is in it too. And he can sing!

Godzilla 2014 : this movie is the definition of meh.
Best character gets killed off way too early, and the others are unlikable and just boring.
The title character gets 10 minutes of screen time and everytime something cool happens the movie cuts to the boring humans again.

From a technical stand point, this movie was also way too dark.
Maybe its just my BD copy but damn I couldnt see sh.it even when I changed the settings on my TV.

Godzilla killings those moths was cool tho. And there were some really cool shots here and there.

I didnt like it to much also. But its much better than the movie released in the 90's with Mathew Broderick.
