This is sort of how I feel about Polanski's early work.
You can't deny the artistry and greatness but you feel weird embracing HIS work

Follow-up. Just saw Star Trek Beyond. Hm... that didn't click with me at all. Found it boring, actually... Oh well.

The irony being, many serious Trekkies loathed the Abrams franchise because it didn't hit the hallmarks of the OS and subsequent shows. It pandered too much to a general audience. So by the third movie, they had it written by a Trekkie and made more like the older Trek stuff...and it bombed.

Agreed. One very odd thing I found: I didn't care for Idris Elba's performance in that film... which has never happened for me before. Mr. Elba is usually rock steady in his awesome characterizations, but in ST:B he was meh.

Oh well. Let's hope for the fans of ST that the next one (if it ever happens) goes better :) And to be fair, ST:B did have some pretty scenery and one or two fun gags.

I rewatched the first Star Trek reboot like a week ago. I like the movie but, man, is old Spock's mind-meld exposition dump just so ignorant it almost offends me. "A star exploded and threatened to destroy the galaxy." That's not even, do the writers actually think an exploding star can destroy a galaxy? Because if so, that's kind of sad to be honest. But okay, it's definitely going to destroy Romulus so, must be the Romulan system's star? So Spock's plan is to, drop red matter in it and suck it up? Because that's not really going to help. Instead of Romulus burning up now you just froze it. Then it's like "We went through the black hole" and it's like, oh, okay. Just, cruising through a black hole, shrug, no big deal. Like he's talking about running to the GoMart to pick up some chips.

Survival family (2016) from Japan. A wonderful comedy movie about a family coming together while trying to survive in a total electrical black out. It made me feel very happy after watching it.

I saw "The Guilty," a Danish thriller about a policeman who's operator of an emergency number who has to deal with a kidnapping just using the phone and a police database. It was really good. It was tense, had a great lead performance and a lot to say about police brutality despite its very short runtime (just 85 minutes!). What I find interesting is that it's a second consecutive new release that involved a kidnapping as a major element of its plot but the kidnapping wasn't entirely what it seems (the first film was "Bad Times at the El Royale.) I'm not sure what it means, but it's curious nonetheless...

Went to the theater twice this week

    First...

Pretty good, could have used a lot more space stuff and a lot less Ryan Gosling brooding.

    Second...

Also would have benefited from some space stuff. Even though my expectations were low I was pretty disappointed. It's not the worst Halloween sequel but it's far from good. It was funny but not very well written/directed/edited. I didn't think it was scary but my date almost broke my hand on a few occasions so maybe I've just seen too many horror films and am becoming desensitized.

So, before watching the new Suspiria I saw the 1977 original and it is a particular kind of camp that I have yet to grow up to enjoy. :D I adore its colour palette, though.

The Incredibles 2 - I liked it more than the first. Brad Bird does action as well as anyone.

Well, the new Suspiria is a completely different beast when compared to the original. The only things left are names of some of the characters, the general setting (a German dance academy, this time located in West Berlin) and the basic premise. Otherwise, this film feels awfully similar in tone and themes its explores (except for setting-related ones) to the third season of Twin Peaks. It is a high-brow horror with prominent elements of fantasy and subtext filled to the brim with the ideas of Jungian psychology. It is a very, very interesting film to think about.

A good movie about the unconditional love of a mother trying to protect her son who is accused for murder.

Just got myself a Shudder account (hurry, on sale for only 33.04 (USD)!)
Now I'm watching Joe Bob Briggs' THE LAST DRIVE IN
It's a show about watching bad (or sometimes even good) horror movies.
He used to host a bunch of shows back in the day.

    I finally watched VENOM.

It was a solid blockbuster movie which I (kinda) enjoyed. It definitely has its flaws. Quite alot actually. But you can have your fun with it. I really liked the relationship between Eddie and Venom. They had good chemistry (if you can all it that way). The Venom creature itself is actually funny too.

You can easily notice that this movie wanted to be much more brutal, but they decided against a R-Rating which was a mistake in my opinion.

Redline (2009). If you hate SW:Resistance (or LA Speed Racer) for being too "kid-oriented", watch this. It's mature, creative, over-the-top and fun.
