@RockyRoadHux and I had some horror movie fun on the weekend.

First we've watched "The Ritual" by David Bruckner, based on the same called novel by Adam Nevill.
It was a solid and also scary movie. I digged the design and presence of the monster.

Secondly we've watched the Netflix Original "1922" which is an adaptation of a Stephen King short story.
Also a good but depressing movie. It's amazing that high quality looking movies don't have to be released in the theaters any longer. We really have a evolution of "TV movies" right now.

I'm not sure what to make of this one, mainly because it was such a mess. Not terrible but still a huge mess. I was a fan of the books when I was younger but I hadn't planned on going to see it in the theater until I got talked into it. Because the books are short story collections I was hoping for something along the lines of Creepshow or The Twilight Zone: The Movie... an anthology of short films based on the stories. Instead they went with a The Ring/Final Destination mashup (although lacking a memorable ending like those two had) with a bunch of references from the book. To draw your attention from how lazy the writing is they throw in a lot of convoluted plotholes and make it an unnecessary period piece set in the 60s. Which in no way affects the story and they don't do a very good job of setting the scene anyway as I kept forgetting it wasn't set in the present. And the whole story is so convoluted (not confusing, just messy), I was trying to explain the plot of the film to somebody and realized it would probably take a paragraph. This is the result of poor writing while trying to take the aforementioned Ring/Final Destination mashup and using it as a framing device for a series of completely unrelated short stories.

    Today:

    Kyoto Inferno.jpg The Legen Ends.jpg

Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Inferno & Rurouni Kenshin The Legend Ends.

While they are not as tight as the first movie, they are still exceptional. I am still not over fight choreography. And Takeru Sato IS Kenshin. Great trilogy. I hope they don't screw up the planned quintology with that ghastly Reflections - Kenshin better have a happy ending after all the crap he's been through. Just sayin'.

TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY. It’s good with great cast but not as good as the book & I really need to see the BBC TV Series so I can compare all three versions.

@RockyRoadHux and I watched the 9th and latest movie written and directed by Quentin Tarantino-

    a3378998b6e42c1f2712229459b1ac78b4a24776.jpg

"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is about Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Rick is a more or less successful Hollywood Star who has arrived at the end of his career and is only used as villain for Western TV series. Cliff Booth is his stuntman, but also his buddy, his assistant, his janitor and “maid-pf-all-work”.

These two characters can't be any more different. Rick is portrayed as a whiny, aging Hollywood Star struggling to witness his career moving in the wrong direction. He is a very unstable character.

On the other hand there is Cliff Booth, who seems to be a calm but tough guy. He is the backbone of Leonardo DiCaprio's role. Nevertheless, the two are good friends and try to survive in the Hollywood of the 1969s.

The whole story takes place during the attacks of the Manson family and is filled with the typical Tarantino ropes. There are long dialogs, lots of music, pop culture references and violence. The whole movie is an ode to the 60s/70s with many cameos of famous people. You can see people like Roman Polanski, Bruce Lee, Charles Manson etc.

The movie feels like a classic Tarantino, though you have to say that the film feels a bit trivial. It doesn’t really have a stringent story. It felt more like single scenes strung together. But that's my only point of criticism: more story.

In the end I have to say that I am satisfied. For about two and a half hours Tarantino managed to take me to the world of the 60s.

The visuals were great, the acting was fantastic and the editing was unique. I enjoyed most of what I had seen. The movie is quite long. First you ask yourself: "Where does the journey go?”. And then: "Why is it already over?".

I would rate the movie 4 out of 5.

Godzilla King of the Monsters. It's dumb and spectacular, and I loved it. It features a three-headed dragon that spits lightning and I can't say no to that.

On Wednesday @RockyRoadHux and I watched "It Chapter 2"

It's a great sequel. I enjoyed it quite a lot.

As some one who read the novel by Stephen King I can say this two movies are a good depiction of the same called book. Furthermore it's much better than the TV movie from 1990. No disrespect to Tim Curry though. He was a great Pennywise, but I have to say I prefer Bill Skarsgard.

Bill Skarsgard is also one of my few points of criticism I have with the sequel. He's not used enough. Other than that I don't really have to criticize that much. The visuals, the score and acting was all great.

"The Report," with Adam Driver. It had a great cast, but I was underwhelmed by the film. The high point of the experience, of course, was Adam Driver coming out in person afterwards to discuss the film with the audience.

I have to say I really enjoyed watching this, but I thought the movie was a lot longer than it needed to be. I love the flashy opulence of Tarantino's films, but this struck me as a bit self-indulgent on his part.

This weekend @NinjaRen and I have watched:

The Talented Mister Ripley- the Miramax production, the one with Matt Damon. Haven't seen this one before, quite entertaining.

Murder Mystery - a Netflix production with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, the locations were gorgeous (like Lake Como, which we all know from AotC, which was also shot here: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Lake_Como )

    Villalarioresort_home_07.jpg

the story not so much, and the acting was painfully to watch.

Yep I'm known for my obsessive compulsive viewing of certain movies & since this was a good one, I had nothing to do over my week off, all tv shows & other movies were caught up so I love these guys hate/love moments.
