    Going to elaborate:

It is really just a mismash of all the other movies with a few new (not really) characters thrown in on top of a bunch of old characters for a wholly unsatisfying end.

Every problem people (wrongly IMO) levy at The Force Awakens should be thrown two fold onto this heap.

Spoilers but it's not worth hiding because you deserve to have it spoiled if you want to watch this.

It is the first movie. That's it. It's Curse of the Black Pearl.
Dead people want to kill Jack Sparrow and are cursed.
He doesn't have the Black Pearl but gets it.
He uses Will...I mean Henry Turner and a very cute pale British lady who always manages to have her breasts perfectly on display to find the maguffin he needs to find to break the curse and defeat the evil bad guys.
There's even a mushmouth witch who isn't the same one from the first set of films.
We'll throw most of the pirates and names you remember in while adding nothing new.
It doesn't even TRY to change the actual story from the first one.
Just changed a few names and viola.

Oh the dead pirates can't go on land, that's another one.
Everything is litterally just there to function as a filler for the partnered plot point in the first one.

    I agree, it's just awful.

Inspired by Jack Sparrow, we may or may not have snuck a decent amount of rum into the theater (it's not like we were expecting it to be good), so my memories of the film are pretty hazy. But I definitely remember not being impressed.

The film had a lot of issues, but I think it also really suffers from the rapidly degrading idea of setting in the series. The first Pirates had a pretty strong sense of place- we saw a lot of Port Royale and its citizens, and Tortuga was flushed out well enough I guess. Then there were the other locations, such as the Rum Island and Isla de Muerta or whatever it was called- you could see somewhere, and have a decent idea of where it was and that it had some part in the universe that the films existed. As the series went on, these locations eventually seemed to devolve into simply set pieces. By the time the fourth film comes around, we see Jack in London, but it doesn't really feel like the city has any personality. When he was in Port Royale, we saw the city from multiple perspectives- Elizabeth's view as a wealthy maiden, Will's as a blacksmith, and finally Jack's as a pirate. In London, we just see Jack running around a city doing his tired Johnny Depp schtick. There is no more depth than that. DMTNT was much the same way- did anywhere really matter? The town from the beginning, that random island they end up on, the cave- its all just random set pieces that all too transparently exist only for the characters in the story that they're telling, and it doesn't feel grounded in the world that they're trying to create. That's really bad storytelling.

Also, just remembered a witch or something? Did that ever even pan out in the film? I was a little drunk, as I said, but I honestly haven't thought about that witch thing since her appearance on screen and apparently immediate departure.

Kaya Scodelario is actually pretty great in other stuff, though. I like her a lot in Skins. Disappointed to see her in this trash.

Yeah, one of my (younger) cousins wanted to see that one... luckily we were able to negotiate to the new Pirates movie... meh, it was a slow movie month.

Yeah, it felt really cliched at a lot points, but had I seen some of the other ones... it could've been much worse.

No the witch never plays out. She is briefly there to aid the big bad British guy who wants to marry Elisab...wrong one sorry.
She helps the big bad British guy find everything like it was no issue at all. Because this big evil thing they are after that is so hard to find is found by...everyone...with ease. And Barbosa could have had it any time really. He clearly knew.

Kaya is a gorgeous woman...oh by the way did you know she's a woman? Because whether it's showcasing her breasts or literally saying "I'm a woman!" or "no MAN could read it and I'm not a man." or just in general doing the exact opposite of good character building by spending endless amounts of time reminding you she's smart and a woman. Good god will they never let you forget.

It was better than some of the sequels and Im not sure if that's just because the SFX are better and therefore the spectacle is better.

I've watched alot of movies lately.

King Kong:Skull Island - It was different which was fresh for a change and I liked it

Alien Covenant - I liked Prometheus and it had its moments, but that doesn't mean it wasn't flawed and the same goes for Covenant. I liked it a bit more than Prometheus. Not sure what people are exactly expecting because it is about origins among other things, so even though they aren't great as the original Alien and Aliens;they sure aren't as bad as those crap movies such as;Alien vs Predator for example.

CHips - Man this movie was bad. Had a few funny dialogue moments but over it was so disjointed

Fate and the Furious - This movie as well as the one's leading up to this one is just getting sillier to the point of parody.

Snatched with Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn - I thought it was funny and a crazy adventure. Come on it's Goldie Hawn...

A Dog's Purpose - Man this movie almost made me have dust in my eyes. If you like dogs I think you will enjoy this movie. Seriously

Sleepless starring Jaimie Foxx - I like Jaimie Foxx and this was an ok movie. Pretty intense but felt flat or something.

Baby Driver - I went to the theater to see this one awhile back. Starring Kevin Spacey, this movie is so high on speed and gets your adrenalin pumping. It's a very fun and different type of movie where you root for the main guy at all costs. For sure an A.

The Circle starring Tom Hanks and Emma Watson - I just couldn't get into this one. It's about a girl who gets an opportunity with a large social media company which was an experiment in privacy and affects everyone she knows with her decisions.

Baywatch - This movie was pretty funny I thought.

@Riot : Thanks, I will check Baskin out.

Well, we watched Dead Girl. It was a good film, well made and well acted. Some of the decisions the kids made were a bit... odd. You really hated some of the characters and really felt for others while still having that feeling that all of these kids are somewhat strange. And the ending was telegraphed. But overall an enjoyable film.
We followed that with Inside - a French film that really was something different, while completely based in reality. The story was good, but the acting of the two main leads wasn't really up to scratch. There were a couple of moments that really were shockingly cringeworthy. Good film and worth a viewing.

    Old Boy next.

Watched Baby Driver the other day and gave it time to sink in a bit.
I liked it. Didn't love it. Kind of forgettable a bit. None of the music really stuck with me much longer than the course of the film.
It's very good but it isn't one Wright's best films.

Eh. Nothing he did in that movie made me say "oh he's Han Solo!" or anything. I think Alden is a better actor tbh.
He's given little to do that isn't with sunglasses on or having some seriously heavyweight actors do the heavy lifting.
He's not bad, I'm just eh. A lot of people could have played Baby tbh.

We will find out soon if anyone else can play Han Solo.

Finally got to watch Logan. Wow what a film & what a fantastic end to both Logan's & Xaviers story arcs.
Probably my favourite X Men film.

The Mummy starring Tom"crazy" Cruise. This movie wasn't as bad as the critics try and paint it, but that's not saying much. It is not great by any means either. I'd say the first half of the movie was decent and the rest just a complete disaster.

Gold with Matthew McConaughey and Bryce Dallas Howard - Kind of an interesting movie based loosely on true events about a man who teams up with another guy and has a dream of striking gold in Indonesia. It kind of meanders but it's trying to surprise you and trick you which it sort of does. I won't spoil it, but a movie that is about 2 hrs feels like 3 hrs long.

Founder with Michael Keaton the story about McDonald's brothers who start it and Ray Kroc who made it a franchise. The mere fact that you could say what a greedy bastard Ray was you almost couldn't blame him because he took a dream that began with the brothers and actually did something in which they were afraid to do and didn't have the guts to try. I felt bad for them though.

    Just watched A Ghost Story.
Written and directed by David Lowery (Pete's Dragon) and it's something else.

It's a slow burn of a movie with very little actual dialogue and almost none of it relates to the emotions and thoughts the movie is trying to convey.
You will either find it brilliant or the dumbest thing you have ever seen.

I think it's brilliant. It's emotional and forces you to think. It's odd yet beautiful. The music is haunting yet perfectly fitting.

It's an emotional showcase of loss and grief.

Just saw The Lego Ninjago Movie. It was pretty good! Much better than TLBM and in my opinion, almost on the same level as TLM. I give it a solid 9/10 and (contrary to what the critics say) I highly recomend it!

mother! is basically a retelling of the Bible on some heavy steroids and with Kristeen Wiig. It was good, but it didn't impact as much as Black Swan did (maybe because I saw it when I was thirteen.) Also, I saw The Square, this year's winner of Palme d'Or. A hilarious commentary on societal norms, modern-day bourgeoisie and the world of modern art. I highly recommend checking it out.

Dunkirk antother fantastic Nolan film & the relative short length really works in that there is no let up in th tension through the film.
