JJ putting him back in the mask is a crime. He is the real villain of Star Wars tbh.

Don Quixote is fine but it's really just another acting showcase for Driver more than anything I found overly compelling as a film.

    agreed!

i know in interviews they've both said there's a good reason for him to put on the mask, so i hope it's justified (and very brief ~ ha!)

he is so terrible to her in that moment and yet you completely understand his frustration.
woof. i really really really can't take any more of Adam Driver crying. that scene is brutal.

    Hopefully.

I love that it's also the only over the top scene in the movie. It's perfectly placed surrounded by these small human moments of politeness and bubbling animosity before it just explodes. So good.

it also wasn't the scene that broke me ~ and probably for that reason.
i held it together for the most part until he read the letter at the end ~ it's such a quiet and beautiful moment, but it's what finally did me in. : o p

No Adam Driver so a slight let down.
Just kidding. It's incredible. What a film.

This Island Earth - Just bought it on DVD and its the first time I've seen it. I really liked it classic 50s sci fi, it was released before Forbidden Planet and I don't think it's quite as good, but it's equally fabulous, the miniatures of the planet Mataluna are fantastic and overall it's a fantastical production. Very different from sci fi today but maybe more ambitious.

    Jade Dynasty 1.jpg

JADE DYNASTY 1 with subpar English translation, but I watched enough wuxia films that it didn't matter. I enjoyed it a lot, though I've seen better. Like almost every Chinese film, special effects are not the best, but film works on choreography and charm of actors. Good fun, no deep thinking required, it even produced some feelz.

    Last Movie I watched:

    24EBA33D-2F2F-4FC8-A1C6-27F7F034ACBC.jpeg
One of my favorite movies this time of year. Jim Carrey is a riot in this live adaptation of the Dr. Sues classic. Everytime I watch it, Cindy Lu makes me tear up when she singing “Where are you Christmas? How come I can’t find you. Did Christmas change or did I?”

    Fav lines:

“One man’s toxic sludge is another man’s popurri!”

“I will drop in, grab some popcorn shrimp, and blow out of there!”

“Bleeding hearts of the world unite!”

“What an altruistic daughter you have their Lou.”

“The chair of cheer?! You didn’t say anything about the chair of cheer!”

    “Are you too still living?”

“Who knows, maybe this Whobilation will change my whole outlook on life!” Cindy Lu: “Really?!” “No!”

And Lothos. But THAT is a story for another time, my friend.

Watto voice: "Hauer starred with Lando, Rambo AND Solo.... can you believe that!"

I just watched Marriage Story also and it was a really good film. Adam Driver was incredible of course and I also appreciate how his and Scarlett Johansson’s characters were handled. I have to admit that I almost cried at the same part as @FN-3263827 and the spoilery scene that @RoyleRancor posted was astounding to me. I already thought Adam Driver was a really great actor, but that scene awed me at how real it was. I also have to give props to ScarJo, as she isn’t really one of my favorite actresses, but I was impressed by her performance in this movie as well.

    Well what do you know...

Saw this last night. It was a phenomenal movie, easily one of the best I've seen this year. The cast was star-studded, the acting was phenomenal (Ana de Armas is WORLD CLASS), and the plot was nice and twisty. A few of the characters were deep and complex, but most were one-note, and that worked out fine. The message of the movie was overt - as Johnson likes to be - but that suited the movie just fine.

Overall I'd rate this a 9.5/10. Not my favorite movie of the year, but easily one of the best.

warning: this movie is very hard to watch, i found it triggering on so many levels. i watched this on Christmas eve and it was very intense and not jolly at all.
but the courage with which it tackles some very harrowing subject matter says so much about the bankrupt state of facile storytelling in too much media today.

    dear LFL,

this is how you deal with a problematic redemption arc.

Has anyone seen Marriage story? It's got Adam Driver so there's a connection to Star Wars. I'm curious about it, I'm just afraid I won't be able to watch it as it looks depressing (actually depressing, not saying the quality is bad)

I saw it the other day and thought it's a REALLY great movie. Adam's performance is phenomenal and the story is presented is a way which makes you easily understand what the characters are feeling, what are their problems and what in general is going on. I have to tell you that one of the major things that I noticed about it, is that it's actually not as depressing as it may have seemed. Granted, my definition of "depressing" might be different than yours, but to me personally, it wasn't an overwhelmingly sad movie - there was even some pretty funny stuff. There are moments during which I got misty-eyed, but I didn't feel crushed at all after finishing it. I highly recommend it.
