I've watched some terrible films with the MST3K/Rifftrax guys over the years but this an all new low. This makes "Miami Connection" look like "The Godfather". It wouldn't be fair to low-budget movies to call this movie low-budget, it's just some guys in the 90s who tried to make an alien invasion movie with a camcorder and some Windows 95 screensaver graphics. It was hilarious though, and worth it just for this great effects scene...

Anyway there's a Christmas themed sequel that Rifftrax also roasted and I look forward to seeing if these guys managed to top that scene.

Overall a pretty fun and lighthearted movie! My parents and I had a good time with this one (although my dad gets annoyed at how my mom and I offer side-bars and live commentaries when we all watch stuff). The music was well done, and the characters, while predictable, were very charming. I called most of the big things in this movie (it's really not that hard, given how predictable it is), but I didn't mind it at all. The resolution and denouement were really rushed however. They needed a few more scenes to fully flesh it out. But in the end, the good heavily outweighed the bad. This High Note isn't winning any awards (which kinda sucks because Tracee KILLED it), but it's definitely worth a watch if you like these more lighthearted movies.

Sorry for the preemptive double post!

I've always thought the lineup should have been:

    Hawkeye vs Vision
    Winter Soldier vs Black Panther
Scarlett Witch vs Black Widow (although I'm fine with it being Wanda vs Rhodey, especially with the subtle "magic vs tech" theme they've got going on).
Falcon vs War Machine (yes, I can see why they avoided it, but if Marvel is going to have the two former military "Black Best Friends" on opposite sides, then having them face off feels like the most appropriate time to do so. That being said, I'm glad they didn't do that.)

Another WolfCop. Not as good as WolfCop but had some great moments and I was laughing pretty hard. Great poster too.

Bill And Ted Face The Music. Awful. Oh well, Bogus Journey already had a perfect ending so it will make this easier to ignore. The biggest laugh we got was when the actual plot of the movie followed the lazy/cliche plot I jokingly made up before the movie as an example of what I hoped they didn't do.

Yesterday @NinjaRen and I watched The Fellowship of the Ring. What we did notice- most of the effects still hold up pretty well!

Last modern film was Knives Out.
    Good movie.

Currently we're watching the late 80's/early 90's Perry Mason Movies.
There's a few that are "meh", but plenty are solid writing. And witty!

I tried watching A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, but I just stopped caring because it's more about this journalist and his bulls*** interpersonal relationships I give a rat's a** about.

I think I'm in the mood for some old Epics films, or Something like Hitchcock's Rope.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers,
    Jayson

Epic like what? Ben Hur? Ran from Kurosawa? I recomend both as an epic movie.

If I had to chose one from Hitchcock it would be Vertigo, my favorite of him.

Of course there's also Lawrence of Arabia if you want epic.
    Really anything from Lean...

Or if you want a modern epic, The Lost City of Z is the most old school epic from the modern era IMO.

Stuff like that, yeah. Only...not that because I've seen them a ton. :(

Hoping there's something out there I don't know.

Have not seen that. Will do! Thanks!

Currently re-watching Endgame with my dad (Ant-Man & the Wasp was on yesterday, and he watched it and it put him in the mood to watch Endgame). We're taking it an hour at a time, so we'll watch Act 2 tomorrow.

Notes so far: I forgot how slow this movie was, and how much I enjoyed that! Each act is clearly defined with it's own beginning, middle, and end. Although I will say that watching this now, the structure of the movie does remind me a bit of Sanderson's The Way of Kings. We have:
    A Prelude - Hawkeye's farm
    A Prologue - The Garden
Act 1 proper - The World After the Snap (the time lapse is even the same!)

We get to see Chris Evans actually emote in some scenes, and Paul Rudd is clearly the breakout performance so far. His reaction when he meets his daughter (and his confrontation with Tony) are easily some of the best acting in the movie, if not the best. Honestly, I think it's more emotional than Kylo Ren's scene with Han on the Death Star. Thor is in close second with his PTSD reaction to hearing Thanos' name.

Even in Act 1, we've had so many different different genres in this move: Superhero action, quiet drama, samurai/vengeance movie one-shot, and even heist planning. And yet it never feels inconsistent or sloppy.

Weirdly, watching Endgame again is making me feel better about TROS, and is almost putting me in a mood to watch it. I'll try to go into more detail once I finish the movie proper, but I don't think it's because "TROS is better than I remember." I think it's more like "I understand more of what TROS was trying to do," mixed with "yeah, Endgame is so good it covers the mistakes TROS made." Endgame isn't perfect however, and TROS does have some very good points, so let's not get it twisted. But it's a weird feeling.

Overall, Endgame is a love letter to the characters and the journeys we've taken with them, and it's easy to see even in the first act.

Now we're back from Modor and thinking about getting the Hobbit extended edition. Never have seen the extended edition, what do you think- is it better than the original?

Nothing can be better than the original (book).
I have the extended version (movie) at home but still didn't watch it so I can't help with the decision.

Yeah, I've read both- lorR and Hobbit. Imo Lord of Ring is a good adaption, if not the best adaption of a book there is...why haven't you watched the extended version yet, if I may ask?
