    So, The Book of Henry.

When it came out this summer it was lambasted as awful and the worst movie since ____________.

    Well I watched it.

It's not that bad. It isn't good either though.

In fact, I don't know what it is. It's kind of floating in this middle ground between bad and good.

Why is it this though? Because it's a movie out of time. The script was written in the 90s. It was never made until now. I understand why. This movie needed to be made in 1985. It just doesn't work now. We don't look at any of the topics this movie covers quite the same now so it's all so outdated. Trevorrow clearly tried his best to "modernize" it but it just doesn't pan out. If this movie is made in the 80s it probably makes much more sense and isn't so wildly hated. It was clearly an experimental run by Trevorrow and it didn't work.

So why was it the worst movie ever? Because that's how things work now. Nothing is ever just bad, it has to be the worst ever or the best ever. We function on extremes now. It's really not as bad as everyone says but it isn't good either.

Does it count for a movie if I have watched the TLJ trailer enough times to cover the length of a standard feature film?

last movie i watched was a comedy that was released last year.

    'Mindhorn'

i'll sucker you into watching the trailer before i give my opinion (coz i know you honest folk won't scroll down and cheat! :p)

    ...ok

    sucks

there were moments that almost made me cry they were so funny, but around those moments.. it sucked.
if you are a hardcore Steve Coogan fan (he only has a small part, but i think he's the producer) then you may love it. i thought it sucked and i'd like that evening back lol

I thought it was ok.. but I felt like the soundtrack was a big step back from the first movie.

it was a missed opportunity after such a huge surprising hit with the first film

Loving Vincent. A haind-painted animation inspired by Vincent van Gogh's art. It was good, butit didn't really wow me, like the rest of the Polish audiences. It is absolutely gorgeus to look at and well-acted, but it lacks a bit in the story department.

I really enjoyed GotG2. Though, I am a sucker for all the "we are a family" feels that dominated the last 45 minutes of it.

i didn't dislike it... i just felt like they let a moof milker pick the songs.

the songs drove the first film along... didn't get that second time around. it's like they missed their own point... messed up their own formula.

Not gonna lie, the last movie I watched was Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue. Family movie night. Actually pretty cute. But the night before was Return of the Jedi. That counts for something, right?

I've got a 5 year old girl, I get to enjoy quite a bit of those types of movies. There are some that are surprisingly well done.

Thanks for the review. If Trevorrow was still on Ep9 I would have watched it by now, but after he got sacked I decided to pass.

you disagree.. because you like the soundtrack.. yes?

if you like the songs, then my opinion will seem bizarre to you. but that's ok.. it's all opinion and taste :)

I disagree because I think they used the songs better in Vol2 for the most part. Better foreshadowing and better inclusion

Okay since my last post in here I saw:

Brawl in Cell Block 99 - An utterly visceral brutal film. It's made by S Craig Zahler who made Bone Tomahawk, so if you've seen that then you should have an idea what you are in for. I loved it. Vince Vaughn gives a down right incredible turn as Bradley. It's a haunting performance, truly. Grindhouse style film.

American Made - Fun action romp with tons to watch and enjoy. It might be the best fun Tom Cruise we've had in a very long time. Up there with Rogue Nation for his best work since Minority Report.

Ingrid Goes West - Delightful dark comedy with some great performances and a hilarious take on social media and stalking.

Brigsby Bear - Our beloved Mark Hamill in a wonderful comedy. It's dark but up lifting at times too.

Thor Ragnarok - Absolutely loved this. I'm a Taika Waititi fan to the end and this was just a Taika Waititi film in Thor make up. And I loved it. It was heavy when it needed to be but course of humor and action throughout gave me the pacing and light heartedness I need from a Thor film.

The Hero - A generic tale about an older man on the downhill slope of life. It isn't bad, but it doesn't offer much new to say. Sam Eliot is great in it though.

Oh and I just finished Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

What nonsense. It's beautiful and vibrant but it's just nonsense.
The leads have 0 depth or charisma. It's like watching Anakin and Padme again.

Shame. The potential here was astounding. This is Avatar II.
Without new or groundbreaking tech, it's just not there.
