Lol. I don't think it's an intelligence thing.

It's a movie that just struck a chord with a lot of people. It's a heavily character driven film with one location where not a whole of action or plot happens. It's mostly two guys talking and their reactions.

On the opposite end of the spectrum you have something like Greyhound, the new Tom Hanks dad movie. It's a fine little flick. Think I posted about it before. But like this, it's just one location and it's almost all plot/action with virtually no characters.

I think it reveals more about what you like/dislike about movies more than anything else.

Nothing wrong with that at all.
    The beauty of movies.

The magic of the greats, Spielberg, Kurosawa, Welles, Scorsese etc, is that they're almost always capable of keeping plot and action at the same pace as the characters. Even their more action focused films have fully realized and developed characters. And their character focused films are always moving briskly with a tight plot and enough action/movement to keep you reeled in.

You know, Thor The Dark World isn't good by any means but it has some pretty fun stuff.
Really had a chance but just kind of....*fart noises*

Overall, probably the weakest MCU film but I like the battle scenes and Thor is awesome!

Funny, I literally just watched Ragnarok last night! Still my favourite MCU film, it's a blast!

    Taika is extremely talented.

Watched "Unpregnant" on HBO tonight. Nice little film, warm and funny, with lots of heart and a certain Moff Gidean in a suprise role (I didn't know that going in; cool stuff!). I really liked it; cool little flick :)

You just described how I feel about Avatar. How it made that incredible boatload of $$ is beyond me.

I get stuck watching movies I have already seen, working from home can’t watch anything new otherwise my attention will be on the movie. Long Kiss Goodnight, before that Kung Fu Hustle, I strongly recommend the latter, best international movie I have seen

I need to watch that again, I haven't seen it since it was in the theater and I didn't really care for it. But I was only 16, had never seen a blaxploitation film and was going in just knowing Tarantino as "the Pulp Fiction guy" which I was a fan of an expecting more of the same.

Exactly! I understand it had good cgi, but the acting was just ok, and the story was just copied from history

Also, another of the "cookie cutter" "Military bad" movies. As a military guy, I hated the portrayal in Avatar.

A Rifftrax for a "movie" called "A Talking Cat!?!" which "stars" Eric Roberts as the voice of a talking cat. A voiceover that the director recorded in Eric's living room in 15 minutes and from the sound of things it was the 15 minutes after happy hour. It also takes place in only two locations yet has a total of 59 establishing shots, it's probably half the movie, something the Rifftrax guys made a lot of fun of.

Utter crapfest. Had high hopes when the trailers first dropped but everything about it was just bad. It felt like someone was trying to make a parody of the group of misfits come together story but it was serious.

From Brandon Cronenberg. It's everything you'd expect from the offspring of David Cronenberg. It's gory body horror to the extreme. It's certainly interesting. Unclear if it's good yet. But major props to Brandon and the SFX department on this one.
