    Things are being taken out of context a bit folks. People are reading the article headlines, not the actual quotes from Kasdan.

    Here is what was said;
    The article says...."Long-serving Star Wars screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, who returned for The Force Awakens, is very excited for the new direction he expects Johnson to head in."

    Key word there is "expects". No where have I seen any proof that Kasdan as even read the script for Ep.8.

    Kasdan's then quotes..."These movies will all be so different,” he told The LA Timesearlier this month, ["Episode VIII" director] Rian Johnson is a friend of mine — he's going to make some weird thing."

    Then he says..."“If you've seen Rian's work, you know it's not going be like anything that's ever been in Star Wars. “You couldn't have three more different people than J.J., Rian and Colin [Trevorrow, Episode IX director]."

    Kasdan is speculating. That's it. Move on folks, and worry not. Episode 8 will be fine. Need I remind you that the real person in charge of these movies is Kathleen Kennedy, and she was partly responsible for how TFA was made and it's tone and direction. Those cues will continue in Ep.8.

    I think that weird might refer to Rian trying some different things with the structure of the film that we haven't seen before in SW, or perhaps delving into the more mystical side of TF as well.

    I agree. I think that SW purists have a reason to be a bit concerned, but personally, if the story is on point and he creates the drama I think he can, I'm ok with 'some weird thing.'

    Wasn't Yoda weird once?

    If someone said nearly a third of ESB would be a green muppet riding Luke (before seeing the film), people would be like "wut? wat wut? whaaatt?"

    Do you really think that Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote episode 7 alongside J.J and is a friend of Rian, hasn't read the Episode 8 script? Rian's been working on it since 2013. They have had to collaborate at some point and discuss where the story will go after 7. J.J said they even cut some stuff out of 7 because it conflicted with Rian's script. Kasdan knows 100%.

    It was weird because Yoda was "acting" to test Luke Skywalker .

    Weird is fine, as long as it's Star Wars weird. KK also seems to know her business.

    It is her business. She has to report to Bob Iger, but Lucasfilm is pretty much her thing now.
