    Can't believe they released a teaser for this already, although it doesn't reveal a ton. We'll probably get a proper teaser by the time Ep. 7 comes out, maybe even with the movie.

    So, Death Star plans pretty likely. But why the ANH quote from Obi Wan at the beginning about Jedi?

    This is supposed to take place right before ANH,during the dark times.It has been confirmed that the story is "Mission to steal the Death Star plans." Star Wars: A New Hope " Prequel,sorta.

    From Yahoo:
    "The Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic, before the dark times, before the Empire,” said the voiceover.

    Hidalgo also revealed an official logline for the film: “A rogue band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans.”

    Edwards, who said that the film is set after Episode III and before Episode IV, added that his film won’t have clear-cut villains and heroes. It’s also very much a war film, he said. “It’s called Star WARS,” he joked, getting a laugh from the crowd.

    “It’s about the fact that god’s not coming to save us, and we’re on our own,” said Edwards. “The absence of the Jedi is omnipresent in the film. It hangs over the whole movie.”

    Edwards confirmed that the one castmember who has been announced, Jones, will play a Rebel in the film.

    Wheew! These visuals are killing me, so awesome. It's like they are showing me things I never knew I wanted to see. And in such epic style. I'm begining to really believe We are in pretty good hands with this new era of Star Wars.

    So, I'm only guessing here, but the teaser clip is probably not supposed to show anything actually happening in the film. Assuming this is Alderan getting blasted by the Death Star, this pre-teaser probably only sets the mood and anchors the context & stakes for the Rogue One plot? Basically what this trailer is saying is, "THIS is why Rogue One will be important in the overall movie series". I think it is unlikely that this was supposed to be scenes from the actual movie. Thoughts?

    The teaser is CGI and is just to give you an idea of the concept of the movie.

    Chances are likely that this is not Alderan. The Tantive IV I believe was heading there but obviously never made it. This could be one of the last scenes from the movie I suppose. But when the Death Star blows up Alderan, it seems they had no prior affiliation with it. They only blew it up because they knew Leia would not cooperate. We see a TIE in the trailer. So that would mean the Empire was stationed there long before it was operational, which I don't think was the case.

    Well, since Alderan had a senator in the Imperial Senate (Leia), and since the Emperor had just disbaned the senate and turned over all local power to regional governors, I don't think it is the least bit strange that Alderan would have TIE fighters aboat.

    "Alderaan is peaceful we have no weapons". I suppose the two planets look similar. But the concept art shows what appears to be the teaser planet but ground forces. If there was a rebel base on Alderaan, it would kind of go against its peacefulness. Nevertheless, it's totally possible.

    Depending on whether they decide to keep any details from earlier EU treatments of the Rebels' theft of the Death Star, this could possibly be Toprawa (created by Brian Daley for his Star Wars radio drama script back in the early 1980s.)

    I'd say that whatever planet we're seeing here, the Death Star is probably under construction and not fixing to blow it up. It looks far too close to the planet for it to be Alderaan, for one thing. I'd say it's probably being held in a low orbit while it's being constructed.

    But then again... who knows? :)

    Well, and the name Toprawa is from some of the very earliest material that went beyond the movies. Same source that got us "Tantive IV" as the name of the Rebel blockade runner at the beginning of ANH.

    Finished maybe. It starts being built above another planet we've seen in another movie. It leaves that planet's orbit unfinished. Not trying to give anything away if you haven't read one of the new canon books.
