SPECULATION Leaks/spoiler-consume JJ's and Disney's fault?

    ***PLEASE KEEP THIS SPOILER FREE***

We all know that JJ wants to keep everything secret til the movie comes out. But I'm starting to think that the hunger for spoilers and leaks is indirectly fed by JJ/Disney. Of course there are hardcore spoiler-consumers that simply love to read every little bit about the film's story because it makes their experience even better. They would go on the hunt for spoilers anyway because it's what they love. ANd that's perfectly fine. But for me the only reason I stumble upon spoilers is a) somebody gives away too much (purposely/unpurposely..like in thread titles or comments) or b) I'm looking for new spoiler free info regarding Episode 7 and end up reading too much. It's just that I am hungry for more. And JJ and co. have just not done a good job so far to eliminate this hunger. They started out fine with some Tweets from the prouction via Bad Robot (IMAX, Star Wars vs Batman, Force for change etc.) but now that things are starting to heat up there is literally nothing a fan can enjoy without being spoiled. Is it really asked too much to put out some behind the scenes videos not giving away too much? I can only speak for myself but all I need are updates like maybe a minute from the editing room just showing how JJ and his guys are entering the rooms and prepare for work. Maybe a droid here and there. Heck right now I'd even be happy if there was a picture of R2 guarding the editing room. Just give us SOMETHING!!!! This is Star Wars and an historical time in movie history. It almosts feels like Nu Image marketing so far. We all know that Disney will kick into higher gears later in the year but as a hardcore fan I feel a "little" disappointed.
I feel like by not giving us anything they keep the people looking for more and thus the interest for spoilers is even bigger.

    No, I don't think it's their fault. It's yours.

Let them work on the movie. And find something to do in the meantime.

So they can't work on the movie AND provide some behind the scenes stuff? Two pictures a month is asked too much?

The problem here is everyone here is treating every single rumor as absolute 100% fact with no real reason any of them is more or less likely than another

Yeah, it's true but rumours even if not proven to be true are also spoilerish. When they turn out to be true when you watch the film it will be different than going in knowing NOTHING at all.

I would blame JJ and Disney indirectly only for having a high level of secrecy which then leads us, the fans, to want to know more.

The blame really lies on us for consuming it so voraciously. We've fueled a group of leakers who leak out rumors and info mostly (I think) just to feel more important and to maybe get something like a free meal or beers as payment for said info leak.

I really don't know how this whole "leaking" game is being played but all I am saying is that while I love JJ's mystery box approach I think it wouldhave worked better if the normal fans would have been given more stuff from time to time. I really don't mean big stuff. I'm talking about things like the Apple Watch post filled with little hints. If that's too spoilerish I would even be ok with more mystery. A photo from the OUTSIDE of the editing room is cool enough for me. I just want my fix :)

Oh yeah, that's all cool. I wasn't speaking about you or people like you in my comment, but more about many other uses here and even somewhat people like myself. It's like crack for some people here. :p

Actually, I'm kinda impressed with how little has been confirmed at this point. I think that JJ has done a nice job maintaining secrecy. While I would love to see some production diaries and behind the scenes featurettes, I don't think that either would quench the collective need to dig for spoilers.

The movie wasn't even on my radar in November before the trailer came out (13 months away is a long way away) but since then I have been like a hungry hound. The problem is we know literally NOTHING for 100% and that bothers me a lot. Comparing it to any other movie you know who is playing whom and what the setting is and stuff like that. We have a couple character names and nothing else. I mean we have nothing.

Here's what we learned from the trailer: Theres a girl. Theres a guy who's a stormtrooper. There's a soccer ball droid. They're on a desert planet. There's another guy flying an xwing over water. There's a weird lightsaber on a snow planet. There is a millennium falcon and tie fighters.

This brings me to what bothers me the most: Why show a teaser trailer THAT early for a movie that doesn't come out for more than a year? The only thing I can think of is so they had extra time to release more marketing materials than the average film before TFA is released, which would make sense since it's a star wars film and going to be a phenomenon.

However, they haven't released anything since then. Virtual trading cards for like 3 characters? Cool. But why have they been so quiet for so long? If you're tired of leaks coming out then release something. It's like the hounds are hungry and to occupy them for a while you throw them a bite of steak. They'll be quenched (albeit not for long) but it would buy the production time for people like me. If we either had ANYTHING concrete to talk about or they had waited to release the trailer until closer to the film date I can promise you with 100% certainty I would not be reading spoilers and obsessing over it everyday.

I won't speak for everyone else but this is how I feel.

If they had been releasing more official materials all this time it still wouldn't stop people looking for spoilers. We would just be more spoiled.

I remember back to the webisodes they did for the PT and they gave away a lot of the story and confirmed things which were previously only rumors.

LF and Disney can't win the spoiler war. Not for Star Wars.

It does not have to be spoilerish stuff. Just some minor updates every two weeks in form of a teasing photograph would really be enough for me. Just like Apple iWatch post by JJ. I could even live without the reflection shown on the table. I just want SOMETHING :D

I think they have done well to conceal/ confuse us. On that note, as others have stated, they could have released all kinds of photos- say macros or super close ups - a hilt, a storm troopers foot in the jungle, etc. - things to make it fun without spoiling the story. I appreciate the preservation of the story, but I hope jj lightens up after Anaheim. Make it fun, not painful

In a round bout way it is their fault. For a production of this magnitude, the leaks were bound to happen. However, perhaps the leaks wouldn't have been so bad if they would of thrown the fandom a bone now and then. 4 months past the completion of principle photography and all we have is a teaser that barely shows anything. Everyone wants to see the original cast, but their production photos are being kept under wraps. When the Kylo Ren pic leaked, LFL could have just turned their head and not say a thing about it, but instead they are suing the guy who leaked it. Sure it was a breach of trust and of a NDA, but what is this gonna prove? Is this going to stop any and all leaks for the next few projects? I highly doubt it. Kennedy and JJ should only blame themselves for what has happened.

    Of course, YMMV.

I kind of think that once we are plunged into the new trilogy, see EP VII, know the story and characters, we will be given much more info in the lead up to VIII and IX. It could very well be in the vein LFL took for the PT with BTS featurettes and photos(I used to buy Star Wars Insider as a teenager just for Rick McCallum's producer updates in the months before EP's II and III). Point is, if they tell us who the characters are and their relationships to each other like we got before EP I, we'll essentially have the whole of EP VII spoiled. The potential for BTS stuff in the lead-up to VIII and IX make sense because we can see stuff with characters we already know without a ton of risk for ruining plot.

I think each movie will have their own plot rather than a chain events going through to conclusion in the third movie.
