I don't think there was any kind of direct inspiration but you never know. As I mentioned previously, Ossus is another thing that was brought into the new canon recently. In Legends continuity it was decimated by a Super Nova caused by the Sith. In a short story entitled "The End of History" in a recent issue of SW Insider they reference a charred Jedi artifact called the Chronicles Med'eeth that was salvaged from the ruins of Ossus. Nice to see that Ossus is still in continuity, and the charred artifact definitely indicates some kind of cataclysm as well.

Not necessarily as it pertains to the new-canon EU material, but I did notice that Episode VII took some things (inadvertently, or not) from the "Legends" LotF series. Specifically, Kylo Ren had to kill someone close to him in order to sever his spiritual ties to the light. Similar to Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus killing Mara Jade in LotF - Sacrifice. Also, and this is yet to be determined, but if Rey turns out to be his sister it will be like Jaina v Jacen. The jury is still out on that last part, but I hope Rey turns out to be Skywalker descendant of some sort.

I decided it's time to trade in my EU collection (well, most of it - 27 books)...I figured that I will probably never read the majority of these books again, and they are just taking up space. I'm keeping some select titles like Shadows of the Empire and everything from Timothy Zahn. I might just get a little emotional though when the time comes. :)

Don't do it... I remember years, years ago, spring cleaning, threw out 2 bags of SW books. Kept the hardcovers, thought SW was over, my roommate at the time patted me on the back and said now lets get some hot chicks...haha the memories.... I think I threw out my OT trilogy novelization softcover read it in one weekend as a teen... I still have my PT hardcovers... I'm such a nerd...hehe. Its hard going digital but too many bookshelves....
Edit: pre-ordered 5 TLJ SW books over the summer on Amazon and there is allot more I want...

True. But I just traded them for new ones. Plus, I can always revisit them at the library. :)

I never had a ton of EU stuff, but I lost some of what I had. Pretty bummed about that. I always read every book I buy, but I definitely enjoy having books as a sort of decoration, too- well, not so much "decoration", but sort of as a victory shelf (or "shelves") of stuff that I've read, and ideally a reminder of stuff that I enjoyed.

None of it is technically Canon now, but I recommend checking out the Darth Bane trilogy and the Knights of the Old Republic comic series.

There have been some allusions to The Old Republic in Rebels.
The Dark Saber from clan Viszla apparently belonged to a Mandalorian Jedi during the Old Republic. I believe they mentioned the Mandalorian Wars, too.
Oh, and there's a few episodes on Malachor, at the site of a battle between the Jedi and the Sith!

Also, rumors for The Last Jedi are that Snoke is an ancient dark side user from The Old Republic era, and that his inclusion in this trilogy is going to catalyze audiences for an Old Republic trilogy after 2020. Take that with a grain of salt, though.

So yeah, both of those things considered, SWTOR isn't really all that well fleshed out as it used to be, but I think they're laying the groundwork.

I've read all of the Old Republic novels and comics. There's some really good stuff in there. If you're wanting to dive in to that era, I actually recommend that you read all of it chronologically according to the old EU timeline. But the ones I listed above are just a couple of my favorites. I recommend you stay away from Red Harvest though - it tries to mix Star Wars with the horror genre and fails on both accounts. It neither feels like Star Wars, nor is it a good horror story. The best way to enjoy the OR era of Legends IMO is to couple the novels with the comic series of that era.

I am quite familiar with Revan and Bastila from Kotor. I've played the game numerous times when it was popular back then and yet after all these years, the series is still getting high praise. Why? The gameplay/graphics may be outdated, but I still love the story and the characters all the more reason to keep on hoping that everything Kotor and most of Swtor combined becomes part of the new Canon one way or another.

Yeah, I remember this moment and hoping that we would learn more about the character, but it didn't pan out. The inclusion of the character was minimal only to serve the story, which I totally get, but it made me really want an Old Republic tale.
