I predict a 10,000 piece set, after all this is the end of the Saga.

This has been rumored to be a UCS Imperial Star Destroyer for a while. And if rumors are to be believed, then unfortunately, it won’t be 10,000 pieces. It’d be closer to half of that. :D

What does that mean when it's that expensive?

It most likely means that there will be a lot of bigger pieces that are more expensive to produce on top of the “premium” Disney/Star Wars pricing. So while the piece count may not cry $700, its size could warrant it.

It should also be noted that the original UcS ISD from 2004 used magnets to help hold it together and if this set uses that technique too (which I doubt) them that could’ve driven up the price too.

I hope these rumors are accurate (and the above image sure looks legit). I have the old UCS Star Destroyer from something like 15 years ago. As beautiful as it is, it is a product of Lego when their designs were of a lower quality than today. The bottom quarter panels are loosely held on by magnets and not, like, "Lego snapped" in tight. The above looks gorgeous and more solid.

EDIT: I just saw TheHeroWithNoFear's post where he mentions the magnets too. I am not really worried about how those impact the price, but I think they hurt the quality. I can't think of any SW Lego sets that have used magnets since then so I highly doubt the new Star Destroyer will.

EDIT #2: And now we know where the E9 Star Destroyer fleet came from!! :D

Well I'll tell you this... if you ever wanted to know the approximate premium we pay for Star Wars licensed products.... the Lego Taj Mahal is 5,923 pieces and $369.99. The Millennium Falcon is 7,541 pieces and $799.99. So you get about 25% more pieces for over twice the price. Ouch!

Meh... I hope not! I want something special! For example a "Three-Trilogy-Set". A Set where we can go from TPM to TROS. Maybe a lightsaber duel stage.

I think Lego lightsaber hilts would be cool. That could potentially be a lot of sets. Han Solo's blaster would be a great one too.
