Vader could have found her??? Kinda like he found Obi-wan, Yoda, Luke and Leia? I must disagree! She could have remained hidden. ALSO they could have had an encounter post RotS which ends in her death, or she just dies somehow between films and we just never find out how, OR she could've still been alive, hidden from Vader, now that would be a twist for the Sequels, for Padme to show up in Ep. 7! But, alas, she died because she was sad....There a tons of possibilities that would have made more sense than dying of a broken heart and one twin having a super-memory.

It fills me with so much joy to find out that I'm not the only one so terribly flummoxed by the tangled mess of plot-holes that is the Skywalker family.

So you'd rather that she give up both of her children and go into hiding?

That's why she should have lived?

Again, unless she fakes her death, Vader will at least believe he has one child somewhere.

Blame the PT all you want but the OT did a miserable job because no one knew it would become what it did, so then Vader is Anakin and Leia is Luke's sister. Obi Wan lied all the time etc etc etc.

Call it straddling the fence-post, but this is one area where I think that neither trilogy handled terribly well, and I even cut the PT a little slack because it had to untangle the gnarled Skywalker family tree. The PT didn't quite stick the landing, but I feel like even the East German judge would've given the attempt at least a solid 6.5.

I'm not saying the OT doesn't have its problems. Probably my main dislike of the OT is this very subject, the Luke/Leia "now we're siblings!" thing. But (in my opinion) the PT did a miserable job of maintaining continuity with the OT. However the PT as a trilogy probably has better internal continuity than the OT did.

I beleive they could successfully hide from Vader. Yoda and Obi-wan did. Vader was in a Star Destroyer over Tatooine and doesn't know Obi-wan is down there. He tortures Leia and doesn't sense that she's his daughter. And it seems in their first encounter that Leia and Vader have met before. Padme's not even force sensitive (as far as I know). I think they could have hidden just fine.

Obi-wan takes Luke to Tatooine, Padme takes Leia to Alderaan. Leia remembers REAL mother. Luke doesn't. Makes sense to me.

Just imagine, with all the poetry and rhyming....what if there would have initially been a little romance between Obi Wan and Padme before finding out they were cousins?

Don't you DARE tell me that would never happen.

So everytime you think the PT was bad, just remember all the possibilities George chose NOT to go with.

I never thought of it that way before!
I don't hate the PT there's a lot about it I like...it's just a few continuity/story issues that bug me. I also have to remember that George didn't watch the OT a thousand times as a kid so he probably thinks about it a lot diffently than I do...

An Obi-Wan/Padme relationship would've been considerably less creepy than a teenage Padme falling in love with a kid she met when he was still at least a couple years away from hitting double-digits in age.

I think in TPM that Anakin was 9 and Padme was 14.

That sounds right, but to my mind that still skates around the edge of "slightly icky."

When did she fall in love? They were friends, if that. She was more like an older sister to him in TPM. At the beginning of AOTC she even says "You'll always be that little boy I knew on Tatooine," which sounds like a friend-zone to me. He burst through though. It's all good.

Sorry, I should've been a little more clear with what I meant. I know that they didn't fall in love in Phantom Menace, and I know I may being a little prude-y about it. But I still find it a little weird that she still eventually fell in love with a kid she knew when he was still old enough to be playing with Tonka Trucks (not to mention she knew him when he yelled "WIZARD!" ewwwwww).

lol true. It is weird to know somebody that long and know them when they were 9 and then marry them 10 years later when you're in your mid twenties.

I think I should re-name this thread to something like "How Gnarly is the Skywalker Family Tree."

It was amazing how the children of the skywalkers came from a slave a royal future for one of them, Luke was not cut out to be a farmboy his whole life, as for Leia she wanted a bit more adventure in her life.

I think the whole Skywalker family needs to go on Dr. Phil and work their issues out. I would have called child services if Anakin & Padme raised their kids!

In regards to Leia remembering Padme, I chalk it up to Yoda's line in Empire: “Through the Force, things you will see. Other places. The future…the past. Old friends long gone.”

Being latently talented with the Force, it is not a great leap to conclude that any memory Leia retains of her mother (yes, her real mother) are essentially visions just like those experienced by Luke on Dagobah. Going back to that quote has helped me to see past this supposed muddling. Lucas is an expert at economy in writing (if not an expert writer, admittedly).

No. They sent Luke to Tatooine because they knew Anakin (Vader) would never look there. Because Anakin (Vader) doesn't like sand....

She may just be talking about stories Bail Organa told her,and Holograms she may have been shown as a child. That's my impression after Revenge of the Sith came out.
