It was not the fact she used the force that kills the moment. the fact leia can use the force is smart.

It was the way it was directed that make it lame. Not only you think about poppins but also superman! the whole scene was ridiculous. Not the idea, the idea of leia using the force is great, but the result was ridiculous.

First time I saw it I was awed. I seriously thought she had died.
Second time I saw it I smiled a bit. It was a bit funny.
Third time I saw it I thought about the implications: the reveal of Leia using the force
Fourth time I saw it I saw the camera focusing in on Billy Lourd.

So, two feelings: a bit weird and funny on the one hand, but also beautiful if you place it in its proper context. The idea that they played with the death of Princes Leia before Carrie Fisher's actual death astounds me. That the camera focuses in on Billy Lourd is very beautiful. But many people will probably not spot that one.

First viewing it was very strange, but later in my second viewing it looked more plausible and the scene.was very well made, especially when she is just floating unconsious. We will see how this scene will age with the years.

It was a moment of wonder. The use of intertextuality (Poppins) was apt and lent itself well to this modern children’s fairy tale.

Leia was always going to use the Force in some way and I think the issue here is in seeing an “elderly lady” accomplish something fantastical. I don’t mean this as a slight to Carrie Fisher, but I don’t think any great Force display would’ve avoided looking comical to some extent. Though I wonder if this is just an adult male issue of seeing an old lady showing great power?

I also think it shares the same issue as many of the so called problems with this film, in that it was unexpected and a bit strange. Upon multiple viewings it moves away from “comical” and “weird” to wonderful and emotive.

They overdid it. I would have prefered it to be much more ambiguous and mysterious. They should have let it be open-ended. Did she use the force to save herself or was it just luck?

And if you put your kid head on?

I’d be willing to bet that the target audience of 8-12 yr olds (girls) would love it and it is another sign of female strength in the Force that was lacking in the previous trilogies.

My 6 year old boy thought it was “cool”.

Maybe it would've been better to make it as if the force was acting seperate from her
Like she's still unonscious and instead of pulling with her hand, the core/point is the whole body and she's pulled back to the ship in a "hug position"
Not as twisted and exaggerated, but something like that

Plausible. Funny some of the things people want force users to do, but Leia simply floats to a door and it gets hated by some.

IMO it's a nice idea but execution on screen was OTT for me. Feels out of place and not really needed. Preferred Leia to die, or perhaps was blasted out into space within a part of the ship, in which some Jedi power could have saved her.

Can people use the Force while unconscious while floating in vacuum?

I wanted to see Leia use the Force, I kind of figured they'd make her some sort of Jedi commander type who can coordinate forces using the force. That would have been cool and powerful, and much more plausible than using the force unconscious in the cold vacuum of space.

    She didn't do it

    Ghost Yoda did it

He made a force bubble around Leia then made her fly back to the ship

Then appeared to Luke to burn down a tree with Sith force lightning. Or maybe it was Jedi force lightning. Who knows

Sounds plausible based on new found Ghost Yoda powers

I guess they need to add a Ghost Yoda emoji like this

She managed to survive the blast, not get shredded by space debris and managed to get back to the ship using the force with a ship travelling at thousands of km's a second whilst not being frozen to death. Why not ? Totally plusable.

    RJ is just plain thick.

It's weird looking because she's frozen because it was the reversal of Han Solo's carbonite freezing.
Han froze and needed saving; Leia froze and saved herself (kind of the running theme of Last Jedi...Last Jedi is basically a riff on the Gospel of Thomas - the whole, "Christ/salvation, etc... is within" jam of Christianity).

So; she was frozen, so it looked like a static picture and she was wearing a robe, which fanned out like a dress.

Any woman wearing a robe or dress in space floating around would strike up image comparisons to Mary Poppins since they literally stuck Julie Andrews on stiff wires (and in her dress) to accomplish (crappy looking) flight (that totally looked far more like someone floating through space than flying around on Earth...but come on...it's an old Disney flick; they did their best).

It honestly wouldn't get the comparison if Leia happened to be dressed in her rather common outfit of pants and a jacket. It just would've been focused on that Force move being crap, etc... etc...

It really all about that dress, bout that dress, no rebel. :p

Anyway, I thought it was a cool scene.

I loved the scene because it was over the top. She is Anakin Skywalker's daughter after all. If she would have made it to the ship all fine and ready to take on the First Order herself, I would have said "Oh come on!". But the explosion and the vacuum of space did injured her, so the whole scene worked for me. I was so happy to see Leia to physically use her force powers. "I'm Mary Poppins, Y'all" is okay by me.

Without a doubt, the scene was over the top in glorifying her triumphant use of the force.

Personally, this didn't sit well with me.

I would have preferred a more subtle scene, even if the exact same thing happened, they could have portrayed it much more subtly.

Example: She didn't need to open her eyes, just show her hand and then a movement - the audience would think, is something happening? Then you can show debris flying past behind her arm while her hand remains in the centre of the screen - the audience is till unsure if she is moving? Then cut to the interior and suddenly BAM - her hand appears on the window of the blast-door.

I liked Leia using the force. We all know she's force sensitive, just haven't seen anything to confirm she's ever used it, or knows how to. I do agree that the scene was a bit over done.
