SPECULATION Leia's Ring

Discussion in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' started by Disneylandfan4life, Jan 10, 2016.

?

Is The Ring and it's Two Blue Gems meant as symbolism or not?

  1. Yes, I think The Ring is symbolism of Her and Luke or maybe something not revealed yet.

  2. No, as you said, a costume designer thought it probably looked nice and had her wear it.

Did anyone notice General Leia Organa's ring in the scene where she hugs Rey?

She's wearing a ring with Two Blue gems in it.

The twin suns of Tatooine are always cited as "evidence" that there were twin Skywalkers (even if that symbolism was decided upon after the fact).

    Three theories below...

    A) Leia's ring is a "Mother's ring" and that the twin gems symbolize her two children: Ben and the child who now calls herself Rey.

    B) Is she wearing them and one gem is herself and the other is meant to be Luke?

    C) Wedding Ring?

    D) Or the costume designer just liked the ring and had her wear it for no significance what so ever. There was no zoom in on the ring or a change in music when it appeared on scene.

Still though, front and center, there it is.

    Thoughts?

I think it's a wedding ring. We know from the novelization her and Han are still married. I think the ring must have some significance to Leia because the rest of Leia's outfit is very practical so for her to wear an ornate piece of jewelry it must be special to her.

While ALL theories are really interesting, I personally think it's supposed to be a wedding ring of sorts.

It could be a wedding ring (though I have trouble seeing either of them picking that ring). It also could be that costume designer wanted a detail that separates her from all other uniformly dressed people and as a reminder that she used to be a princess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Considering that after seeing it 6 times this is the first time I've thought about it I don't think it was given enough time for it to mean anything significant.

I agree as well part of the costume. This would been a proper one.

If I remember right she was wearing the ring in that scene on the index finger? The index finger a good place for things like class rings, fraternal rings, or family and membership crests.

Edit. I was wrong. She is wearing it on her ring finger.

    Some Disney Trivia ( Disney.wikia.com)

"With the exception of Naveen, who has a younger brother, all the Disney Princes are presumably only children".

That rules out pretty much the possibility for Kylo having any siblings ;)

It's probably just a simple decoration in the scenes .

I wrote up a post for it on my blog here. I would have written it off as a simple piece of jewelry too but then it'd be very odd that it doesn't get explained in the Visual Dictionary, when that book makes a point of captioning even the most mundane little details in character's costumes and appearance. And it's positioned in a way in those photos of Leia where you're meant to notice it. I'm not the only one who has tried to get Hidalgo to answer tweets about it with no response, too >.>.

It's like you're asking the point of what brand of shoes Rey wears .

?? I'm not the only one who has noticed this lmao. It's an unusual, large and noticeable looking ring and in a book where Rey's suntan, Lor San Tekka's necklace, Finn's gun strap, Han's grey hair, Poe's tousled hair, random Jakku village's blaster rifle, all get captions explaining them, it seems deliberately conspicuous that Leia's ring gets nothing? Hidalgo was even answering tweets earlier about random little pieces of costume and props that got captions in the book so it's not like he's above answering those kind of questions.

Edit: Lol and now that you mention it Rey's shoes have a caption: "Govath-wool traveler's boots".

It's probably just a simple costume, I mean we don't know what kind of threading the costumes are made of except for Ret .

Great post! Just saw the movie again and noticed that, both the ring and the theme playing on the background. I mean, as one of my friends said after watching it, "there will be room for speculation from here till Episode VIII".

so the Last Jedi poster for Leia certainly brings this ring back to prominence:

    Screen Shot 2017-07-16 at 10.19.42 AM.png

i still think it's a wedding ring and may yet be significant for that reason.
the spirit of Han will continue to be a presence (though may not literally) throughout the ST.

to me this doesn't look like a piece of jewelry she would have chosen for herself.
but it does look like maybe something Han would have picked.

if it was not meant to be a wedding ring, you would think they would have put it on a different finger.
especially seeing it here so prominent it feels like a reminder of her loss and Han's enduring "spirit".
