So a while back their were rumours Laeta Kalogridis was working on Knights of the Old Republic Script based on the much loved game. Now I dunno how many people have played the game on this forum but I thought it might be a bit of fun to say who we would cast in the roles if the rumour was true.

Warning for those who haven't payed the game there maybe some spoilers in the thread.

So here's mine(im sure you will disagree!).

    Revan - Ellen Page.
I know alot of people will say Revan was a guy in legends, but personally I always played the character as a woman. Also think having a woman in the role would create an interesting and different love triangle between Revan, Bastila & Cath. I picked Page becuase I think she can do light and dark really well (look at her range from Juno to The Umbrella Academy). I think she is about the right age, you don't want some one too young they wouldn't feel like they had lived, but equally you want some one young enough to lead the film. My only worry is we've never really seen her do anything like a lightsaber duel.

My back up option for Revan would be: Rosa Salazar

    Bastila Shan - Zazie Beetz
    [IMG]
I wasn't really a fan of Deadpool 2, but she was great as Domino. can defiantly see her as Bastila a character strong in the force but struggles with the dark side who has a connection to Revan.

My back up option for Bastila would be: Hera Hilmarsdóttir (she was great in Mortal Engines even if the film wasn't great)

    Darth Malak - Jon Bernthal
    [IMG]

I can just see him as Sith lord of few words but just ruthless aggression.

My back up option for Malak would be: Djimon Hounsou

    Carth Onasi - Jeremy Renner
    [IMG]
Character needs to be old enough to have a son in the Sith acedemy but young enough so a possible romance with Revan would be buyable. Renner can pull of both.

Back up for Carth - Ben Foster

    Jolee Bindo - Chiwetel Ejiofor
    [IMG]
I think anyone who has played the game can see the obviousness of this one.

    backup for Jolee: Jeffrey Wright

    Juhani - Jing Tian
    [IMG]
Have to admit The Great Wall is a guilty pleasure of mine, and really like Jing Tian and would love to see her as a Jedi and Juhani has a great arc that she could definitely dig her teeth into.

Back up for Juhani - Kate Mara

Canderous Ordo - Lou Diamond Phillips
    [IMG]
Fairly obvious casting as a grisled Mandalorian, the guy does grumpy and action well. would be perfect.

Back up for Canderous - Guillermo Díaz

    Mission Vao - Cailee-Spaeny
    [IMG]
Paciffic Rim - Uprising was not a good film (especially Charlie Day in it) but Spaeny managed to to be annoying in a character that 99% of performers would have struggled not to come across as annoying. Can just see Spaeny as the spikey Mission character.

Back up for Mission - Dafne Keen

    HK-47 - Liev Schreiber(Voice)

    Jedi Masters:
Peter Dinklage - Octavia Spencer - Mos Def - Amanda Peet

If You where gonna bring in character from KOTOR 2 then:

Meetra Surik (Jedi Exile) - Either Hera Hilmarsdóttir or Rosa Salazar I just want to see them in the film.

Darth Nihilus - Ethan Hawke, can just see him as the sort of force junkie kind of character.

Director: Zhang Yimou. I think he would make it look sensational and really revolutionary in Star Wars

Director of Photography: Bradford Young - I know a lot of people thought Solo was to dark, but personally I think it is the most beautiful looking Star Wars film made yet. Between Solo and Arrival Youngs name alone is enough to make me buy a ticket to his next prject what ever that is, and I'd love to see him return to Star Wars.

Writer: Im happy with Laeta Kalogridis, I've loved Alita, Shutter Island and Night Watch all of which she wrote, she has also produced Avatar which while I know its common place to slate these days but I still love, I've also heard good things about Altered Carbon. Yeah Teminator Genisys was naff, but that franchise is dead, thier just isn't anything new you can do with it.

So these are my choices what about yours:

I dunno, while I love Keanu, he is 55 and doesn't have a great acting range he is quite one note.

I'd rather them go a bit younger (mid 30's) and with a bit more acting range

    James Franco as Revan
Was great as James Dean and IMO should have been Anakin in the PT. Can do drama, comedy and action. Perfect for Star Wars.

    Kate Beckinsale as Bastila
Speaks for itself. Looks like her. Sounds like her. Has done action movies before.

    Jake Johnson as Carth Onasi
Kinda looks like him and the guy is hilarious (see New Girl). Would add the sarcastic comic relief like Han Solo in OT, Obi-Wan in PT & Poe in ST.

    Michael Shannon as Darth Malak
Super intensive. Super creepy. Quality actor. Even when he’s playing a “good guy” he’s still terrifying!

It's probably because I just watched a movie with him in it, but Thomas Haden Church could be an interesting Canderous Ordo:

If we get The Old Republic, I'd probably want all new characters (with maybe some canon reimaginings of Legends ones, like Revan.

    That being said...

    Revan- Cate Blanchett
She'd be amazing, either as a good Revan or Dark Side one
    [IMG]

    Carth- Kyle Chandler
He's got that "action hero, but punchable" vibe
    [IMG]

    Bastila- Carice Van Houten
Like Revan and Malak, probably a little older than most people tend to think of the character. But I think she'd be great!

    Mission Vao- Maise Williams
She's got that Misson energy, I guess
    [IMG]

    Zaalbar- Joonas Suatomo
    Why reinvent the wheel?
    upload_2020-5-28_15-44-54.jpeg

    Canderous- Stephen Lang
I feel bad because the guy's already so typecast, but it's kinda too perfect to pass up, right?

    Juhani- Zendaya
She's done a great job with the Spider-man movies, so she's already in the House of Mouse
    [IMG]

    Jolee- Djimon Hounsou
I think he could pull off a great Jolee
    [IMG]

    Darth Malak- JK Simmons
He can be incredibly intimidating, and he's a great actor!

    Kreia- Maggie Smith
    [IMG]

    Darth Sion- Willem Dafoe
The intensity he'd bring to this role!

    HK-47- Josh Gad
Hear me out! HK's voice would be heavily, heavily edited anyway. Why not let Josh Gad's own natural comedic talent serve as the base, before being modified to sound more like the sadistic robot that he is? Gad is a talented voice actor, and I think he could bring some great character to the part, even if his voice doesn't quite match HK's (though to be honest, what human's would?).

Then of course, some roles for Star Wars regulars. I'd love to see Warwick as T3

I'm not familiar with some of these people but I think it looks like a great list!

I HATED Jar Jar Binks, but I would love to see Ahmed Best cast in KOTOR. No makeup, just a human. And make him bad @$$. Have him do something incredibly cool or significant.

Forgive my ignorance, what part of the original KOTOR is canon? The game could end in different ways and even Revan's gender was fluid based on your choices while playing.

I like the idea of Margot Robbie as Mission Rao, she and her wookie friend were my favorite companions in that game. One word of warning the lore around the Star Forge is kinda yuck, so while it's a pivotal part of the plot, I hope they don't drill too deep on the "lore" that surrounds it.

I don't think any part of KOTOR is canon these days. I haven't even played the games, I'm thinking of the audiobooks that came out. I enjoyed those a lot.

The story of KOTOR is not canon.

The existence of an Old Republic is. As are the Mandalorian Wars, and the Battle of Malachor (though it seems to be quite different than the one from Legends).

There's other stuff like Darth Bane (not KOTOR, but still much before the OT), who was canonized in The Clone Wars.

And I'm not sure about stuff like Tarre Viszla, the Dark Saber, etc, whether that was in Legends or not. But their existence is canon now.

Various other elements are arguably canon. For instance, some of the Sith Trooper brigades were named (in the Visual Dictionary) after Sith Lords like Revan. But the Visual Dictionary should be treated as canon only so far as it doesn't conflict with anything else, so it wouldn't take much to dismiss that.

Though again, I doubt that even if a "Revan" existed in canon, the actual events of KOTOR probably didn't play out much like the game.

The original game had a superb story (if you ignore some of the weird lore about the Star Forge) and could really make a great film, but it would require Revan to have some of its game choices solidified. In the MMO I think Revan's followers become cult like and the lore of the forge and the race behind it gets explored a lot.

It's worthy lore to explore and borrow from even if the MMO took some very ugly turns with it all.

I've said it before, but I always imagined KOTOR as a television (now Disney+) show instead of a movie. There would be more time to explore the characters, the world, and the plots without feeling too rushed. But I like fan casting, so let's go ahead!

My main pick for Revan is Henry Shum Jr.
Actor, dancer, singer, choreographer, the man can do it all. He has the skills to make Revan overflow with talent and charisma. (But if we're going for an older Revan, I don't think Keanu Reeves would be bad.)

    Darth Malak - Stephen Amell.
This was a tough choice. I like Stephen as a person and as an actor, and he loves Star Wars and desperately wants to be a Jedi. But even in my fan-casting, I never had a good place for him. Darth Malak went through some iterations today when making this list, but I realized that I needed someone younger than forty to match Shum Jr's age, and that could be physically imposing. Amell came to mind. Stephen can play brooding bad boy, emotionless killer, and rage-filled tactician (both the quiet rage and the explosive kind). He's got the physique and skill to do some of his own stunts, as seen in Arrow with how much the show let him get away with.

    Bastila Shan -
If we're going for type cast, Aubrey Plaza can play aloof-and-slightly-mean-but-still-good-hearted-brunette very, VERY well. I'd rather her not, though. Outside of that Daisy Ridley would actually be a brilliant Bastila. But my No 1 pick goes to GEMMA FREAKING CHAN. She can play tough girl, like Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel (and like she probably will as Sersi in the Eternals movie), she can play upper class yet still human like she did as Astrid in Crazy Rich Asians, and I'm sure she can do even more. I also do this because if we're taking all of The Old Republic Era material, I'd rather distill it down to two to three generations of just pure war and bloodshed. So Bastila would be the eventual mother of Satele Shan, and as such I wanted a prominent Space Asian family line that Gemma could be the matriarch of.

Juhani - ROSA, ROSA ROOOOSSSAAAAA! Aka Stephanie Beatriz. Stephanie has that Tough Girl persona down pat, but her natural bubbliness would work very well for Juhani. Let's see her explore the Dark Side before coming up for air.

    upload_2020-5-29_6-48-36.jpeg

Mission Vao - It'd be easy to say "Mille Bobbie Brown" and be done with it...so let's branch out. I think from the Starnger Things cast, Sadie Sink is a better fit. Sadie can already play slightly traumatized-yet-golden-hearted youth pretty well, and we wouldn't have to worry about aging her up or down.

Canderous Ordo can go in a couple of different directions. My first thought was Michelle Rodriguiz. I like the idea of Mandalore having a long and storied history of women as leaders; and Michelle is type-cast as those rough, tank-top wearing bad mama-jammas. She's younger than most other people's Canderous, but I think that just gives her a longer life as the character.

My second guess for the character is none other than Vin Diesel. The problem with Vin, however, is that he just plays himself in a movie. This works in the Fast and Furious franchise, but it's distracting in Star Wars.

Jolee Bindo - Lance Reddick! He can play crass and heartless, like he did in Horizon: Zero Dawn. He can play affable, as he does in John Wick. The man has range and experience that would undoubtedly serve him perfectly as a character with matching qualities.

HK-47 - John Mulaney. 'Nuff said.

    upload_2020-5-29_7-41-12.jpeg

    Trask Ulgo - Sean Bean.

We can't get attached now, can we?

I'll probably do KOTOR II some time down the line.

Just a hunch, but I wager Disney+ goes with a female Revan. Personally, I'd find that interpretation more interesting. I think Charlize Theron would nail it, but I don't think a Disney+ budget could afford her.

I do agree a Disney+ series would be a much better way to go.

Alright, today, let's do KOTOR II! My experience with this game really amounts to watching one Light Side playthrough about five years ago...so...yeah...
This won't be a complete list due to those factors, but hey, why not have some fun?

    The Exile/ Meetra Surik -
Zoe Kravitz! Zoe is supremely skilled yet underrated actor, and I think she could shine as Meetra.

    upload_2020-6-19_2-56-40.jpeg

    Kreia -
Dame Helen Mirren. She would KILL this role, easily switching from jaded advisor to conscripted ally to every role Kreia needs to play throughout the series (again, KOTOR is a mult-seasoned generational story in my mind. This is basically Part 1: Act 2 in my head).
    upload_2020-6-19_2-57-56.jpeg

    Atton -
Grant Gustin. Boyish, charming, and can play arrogant VERY well when he wants to, Grant Gustin is an absolute fit for this role. Gustin has chemistry with pretty much everyone, and that's what Atton needs in order to manipulate people. This iteration of Atton would play up being the Bad Boy Smuggler (i.e. the choice people make KNOWING it's going to end bad and destroy them, but they do it anyways).
    upload_2020-6-19_3-0-16.jpeg

    Bao-Dur -
Henry Simmons. Henry can play burly, surly, and stoic pretty well (at least in Agents of Shield). I'm still not sure he's the right fit, but he's all I can find at the moment.
    upload_2020-6-19_3-7-15.jpeg

    The Handmaiden -
Unknown at this moment. Sorry. Maybe Ana de Armas? I wanted to add her in somewhere but she didn't really fit.

The Disciple - A younger Nathan Fillion is the first thing that popped into my mind, so if anyone can find one, I'd gladly take it.

    Mira -
Zendaya. Zendaya's younger than I'd prefer for the role, but I think she could pull off the "experience over age" thing. She can also work red hair, and that was important, storm it!

Visas Marr - Ideally a blind actress, but other than that...
Annabelle Attanasio. I know LITERALLY nothing about Annabelle but her name, but I thought, "why the heck not?"
    upload_2020-6-19_3-10-33.jpeg

    Atris -
Natalie Dormer. Natalie could absoutely nail the role of attractive but off-limits, charming yet condescending, and ultimately downright crazy. Yup. That's the way to go.
    upload_2020-6-19_3-21-13.jpeg

Darth Sion and Darth Nihilus. I don't know enough about them to have a pick at this moment. But for me, I'd want a physical actor. Someone who can stand up to do stunts and act with their body far more than their words. Once you find people like that, then we can start to narrow down the choices.

Thanks! Kinda funny, but I was thinking about this the other day heavily considered switching out John Mulaney for Danny Pudi (aka Abed from Community) if I had the chance to redo the list.
