Last Sunday I made a short trip to a historic fortress of Bourtange, just across the dutch border and close to the town of Groningen NL.

While walking around, I was remembered of my good cantina fellow @Master_Farkaz.

How have you been lately, old friend? Is your food still molesting you?

No... He's no longer welcome in our country! :D
After damaging several of our "preciousss" windmills, he was gently escorted to the border and kindly informed that his presence in our lands was no longer appreciated! :p

Hi everyone. I hope things are going well in these times. May we achieve the goal of goodness.

I've just thought of how a lightsaber could work. No, really... But I might be over thinking it, idk... But think about it... Or laugh me to the garden, idc.
I've seen various ideas on how they could be made. But what if it's actually, much, much more basic to what we think.

Let's say that the 2 main crystals used. By themselves they are harmless. But, are extremely radio active and become almost unstable when grinding on each others surface, like an extremely rare crazy piezo crystal. Mixed with something worse than uranium or caesium.
These crystals (when pressed together) emit a field of radiation which can cut, and it glows, and it hums. Essentially, the entire lightsaber just had to have 1 function, which would be opening the entrance to the radiation field. The rest of the lightsaber is just a bunch of shielding / Faraday cage-like layers, from the radiation, with some added flex for hand pressure, to stimulate the crystal pressure. And maybe batteries, or a USB to charge stuff. Jk, but you see what I mean?

This would eliminate so many things from previous designs. No need for heaps of wires, or hose connections. This design means that a Jedi, without heaps of tools needed, could make one of these things. Still dangerous, if these crystals exist. I bet something like them do actually exist. Or could at least be made synthetically.
    Am I missing something? Obviously.

realistically, lightsabers would have to adhere to something like that. The main problem i usually find with lightsabers is cauterization. Realistically, cutting someone in half would produce a lot of blood. Therefore, i think that the blade would have to be made up of some star wars equivalent of uranium, and they only become unstable on contact. This would explain why lightsabers give off no heat, as they would only activate while slicing through something, activating multiple times to produce the level of cauterization we see now. Of course, their insides would be obliterated though.

This past month I've convinced myself to ship three ships that aren't even possible.

The first was CW's Supergirl and some version of Peter Parker. Most likely the PS4 version. Kara's a dork and Peter's a nerd, it's a match made in heaven. Both are so down-to-earth and relatable, and their powers would make superheroing seem more like a fun date at time - just imagine them talking about the previous night's episode of The Bachelor as they save cats from trees, j-walkers from distracted drivers, and other "pedestrian" crimes! Peter's not the type of guy who would be intimidated by woman who makes more money than him or is stronger than him, and Kara would have someone who accepts where she is. Long distance relationships wouldn't be a problem given Kara's superspeed and flight, and maybe that sort of relationship would finally convince Peter to take a day off! And on the romance side...Peter may not be as...sturdy as a Kryptonian, but he's sturdier than most...and now I feel weird and need a shower. Also, Peter's interest in technology and Kara's knowledge of xenotech and overall background as a Kryptonian would be super fascinating to him. On the flip side, Kara can talk all about her past with someone who will listen! (Also, Peter geeking out with Barry during the annual crossovers is something I NEED in my life.*)

The second ship is Dedue and Constance from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I imagined how a support between them would work, and then I wrote it out; and now I ship them. Dedue is so taciturn and blunt while Constance's style of speech is far more chatty and aristocratic, almost to the point of archaic. It was really fun to work off of that dynamic. And seeing them bond over flowers and a shared sort of spirit was really cool. So yeah...I ship it.

Lastly, about fifteen minutes ago, I decided I ship Deke Shaw from Agents of Shield with Nora West-Allen from CW's The Flash. I think the two would just be adorkable together. Both are so out of place in their current environments, and I think they'd have fun just being like time-travel tourists. It'd be hilarious.

And with these three ships, my list of impossible ships grows longer (others include Zuko x Toph, M!Robin x F!Corrin (although one could make the case that Fire Emblem Warriors makes this possible), Luke Skywalker x Tula Markona, and Rosa x Doug Judy).

So for you shippers out there, what ships do you have that will never happen?

*I can just imagine the two comparing their similar life experiences and goals, and then whichever is older (most likely Barry) treating the other one like a little brother. And then Oliver quickly comes to respect the Webhead after he learns that Peter's been all on his own in the superhero game since he was fifteen, and built all of his own stuff. And then Felicity and/or Iris comes in and teases Kara for having a type...I could go on, but y'all get the picture.

Just had a fun little debate with my best friend (I haven't talked to him in a while...I need to write him an email soon) about whether the 4th Hokage would win or Itachi would. A classic debate, for which we fall on differing sides, predictably. He thinks Itachi would win, I think the 4th Hokage would. It ended up devolving into memes and jokes, which was exactly how it should have ended.

Damn, the last anime I saw was Ninja Scroll. I'll never forget the 1st time I saw it. I was probably 14, TV channel surfing and then saw some guy having his head bashed in by another guy's headbutt. I was shocked, horrified - but it was amazing. Still is.

As the end of the year approaches, I thought it'd be fun to look back on the year and do a "Best of 2020" list, like every website seems to do. This will have categories of: Music (most listened to, "beats to relax/chill to," best discovered artist, best song, and "song that describes this year"), Books, Comics, Shows, Games, Movies, and Manga/Anime.

With one exception in "Song That Describes This Year," ALL OTHER ENTRIES MUST HAVE BEEN FIRST DISCOVERED IN 2020. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THEY CAME OUT IN 2020, ONLY THAT I FIRST DISCOVERED THEM THIS YEAR.

MOST THE SONGS ARE ALSO EXPLICIT, SO PLEASE DON'T WATCH THEM IN PLACES WHERE SWEARING IS NOT ALLOWING.

    So, let's get started!

    MUSIC:
Most Listened To - "Heartless" by The Weeknd. I never got tired of this song. I listened to it non-stop. I listened to it while writing my ST Revision, and I just never stopped. I listened to on repeat earlier this evening! This isn't the best or most emotional song I heard this year, but it's by far the one I'll go back to. (Runner-Up is "Parasite Eve" by Bring Me the Horizon.)

Beats to Relax/Chill To: "Won't Give Up" by John Paesano from the Spider-Man: Miles Morales soundtrack. This song is both bombastic and chill. It's hopeful and heroic and utterly unique. It IS Miles as Spider-Man. I love it. I put this on repeat when I just want to chill or need to focus on writing but not the content. Although, if I'm being serious, the roaming music from SSMM also counts here.

Best Discovered Artist: Band-Maid. I've been gushing about them for weeks, and as of last night, have bought most of their discography. I'm currently listening to their album Conqueror, and it's a banger all the way through. Some songs feel like anime openings, others like old-school 70s rock, and still some are just awesome. It's a great CD from a great band, and I can't wait to listen to the rest of their stuff.

Best Song: This is actually a tie between four songs - "Jinsei no Hari" by Gesu no Kiwami Otome, "The Bigger Picture" by Lil Baby, "Parasite Eve" by Bring Me the Horizon, and "Bokura no Hikari (Our Light)" by Lyn from the Persona 5 Royal soundtrack. These are the three songs that truly evoked feelings from me, each for different reasons, but that that is the main criteria for this placement.

Song That Describes This Year: "World's On Fire" by Mike Shinoda and "Teardrops" by Bring Me the Horizon. Mike's song's title fits perfectly, but so do the lyrics. I interpret "Teardrops" as the emotional numbness we've all faced due to the sheer onslaught of terribleness this year has been, and how we're so exhausted by it.

Bonus - Song I'd Most Like to Sing In Choir - "Every Hour" by Kanye West.

Bonus - Best Leitmotif - "A Friend" by Ludwig Goransson

    BOOK:

Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson.
    upload_2020-12-26_20-38-38.jpeg

I'll be honest, I haven't done a lot of reading this year. At first it was simply a slump that happens from time to time. And then it became school work and work-work. But there's one thing I will always make an exception for, it's a work by Brandon Sanderson. And his latest Stormlight book didn't disappoint. Rhythm of War felt eerily appropriate this year. Mentions of a plague, vastly opposing sides finding common ground and balance, and the sheer amount of depression in the book...it resonated with people. And yet, there's light at the end of the tunnel.

    COMIC:
Boom! Studio's Might Morphin' Power Rangers.

    upload_2020-12-26_20-39-15.jpeg
For those of y'all who've seen my posts about what I've been watching, this probably isn't a big surprise. But It also beat out Sanderson's Dark One and all of the other superhero comics I've read this year, which is a BIG surprise. (Dark One is tied for Second however.) The MMPR comic is a great modernization of the 1990s show as well as being a great tribute to ever incarnation since. The focus on the Rangers as people instead of heroes is a solid one, and I love the characterization. Not all of the arcs have been perfect - Shattered Grid was a major disappointment for me - but the new lore, mythos, and team-ups we've been given are very welcome in the franchise. Overall, this is a win for Power Rangers fans past and present, and one of the three comics where I was actively searching for more.

    MOVIE:
I'm writing this before I watch Wonder Woman 1984, and I'll post this afterwards, so it's not really fair to any other movie I may watch this year. But, given how 2020 has been, it's been pretty light on movies. However, that didn't stop this movie from earning a spot in my Top 10 list of all-time favorite movies (that aren't animated or superheroes)

    upload_2020-12-26_20-39-53.jpeg

Crazy Rich Asians is a great time and a smart movie. Instead of focusing on the reveal of being interested in someone rich, this movie deals with the realities that a relationship like that would have, and does so brilliantly. The cast is great, the humor is on-point, and the overall message is a good one. I love it.

    TV:
I've watched a lot of comedies this year, and it's no surprise my favorite two shows of this year are also now some of my favorite shows of all time.
    upload_2020-12-26_20-41-12.jpeg

    upload_2020-12-26_20-40-34.jpeg

Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Parks & Rec are fun, funny, and frankly phenomenal shows. They make you laugh, learn, mature, and sometimes cry. I think these are two shows that everyone should at least give two seasons before deciding on how they feel about them (Parks & Rec really needs that second season). Sadly I can't say I like The Office or The Good Place, not for lack of trying (or for lack of enjoying the small clips on YouTube).

    GAME:
This is a surprisingly hard choice, as only two games really qualify. ...but I'm going to have to give it to Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Spider-Man had an overall stunning soundtrack, great visuals, and a heartfelt (if not entirely original) story. The post-game mission, while small, wraps everything up in a nice bow. Be Greater, Be Yourself.

    upload_2020-12-26_20-41-39.jpeg

    ANIME/MANGA:
I'm going to have to cheat here a bit too. I don't watch a lot of anime anymore, so I'll give Manga two winners - one for long-running series and the other for a newcomer.
In the long-runner, we have My Hero Academia. The current arc has been mind-blowingly good. Great action, character moments, plot twists, and reveals. It's the best arc of it's kind so far, and seems to be ending at the perfect time, neither overstaying its welcome or ending too early. Anime-only fans will have a LOT to look forward to this arc. (ALSO FANS OF MY HERO ACADEMIA SHOULD PROBABLY READ THE SPIN-OFF SERIES VIGILANTES IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY.)
    upload_2020-12-26_20-44-25.jpeg

In the new series, we have another tie! First up is Spy x Family, the story of a government spy in a fictional cold-war state who, for his latest mission, needs to find a wife and a daughter. The daughter he adopts turns out to be a telepath, and the wife an assassin who is using them as a cover for her own work (in her social circle, single women are seen as potential spies or enemies of the state, and so to keep her cover she needs an S.O.). The manga has great action, cute scenes, and quite the heart. Check it out.

We also have Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War, the story of two youths who desire to make each other confess their feelings first. This devolves into a game of extreme hijinks with a solid surrounding cast, some intense drama, and a good bit of adult humor. And heartbreak. It's not action-packed, but it's definitely worth checking out.

Runner Up is My Hero Academia: Team Up Mission. This soon-to-be-translated manga gives us all of the team-ups we've all desired. You want to see Deku team up with Mirko? Here you go! You want to see Melissa Shield meet Hatsume? We got you! It's a blast, and soon we can all enjoy it.

(Kaiju No. 8 and Sakamoto Days are also worth checking out, if you're a fan of Pacific Rim and "retired assassin" stories ala Rurouni Kenshin, respectively.)

I've been going creative crazy with making board games. It's surprisingly fun, imagining how a game will work, while also being easy to play and understandable in terms of the rules.
