Well some people will love, some people will hate, a movie experience belongs to the viewer and can be altered by the context you are watching it... then you return to it several years later, and it's a different movie to you. I say, NOW that TFA is my favorite Star Wars episode so far... I may change my mind in a year or two.

What really strikes me if by surfing the Internet, you end up reading or watching the ranking viewers of all ages and around the world give the 7 Star Wars episodes.

I was really surprised by it!

I sort of thought that it was now a consensus that Empire Strikes Back (or sometimes A New Hope) was on top of everyone's list. It's not the case, not anymore.
I was surprised that many people has ranked Revenge of the Sith really high on their list, and made me think.... I was sincere when, for a while, I thought it to be better than Return of the Jedi.

Some even put The Phantom Menace as their favorite Star Wars movie!

So... in my opinion, it really depends on the context in which you have watched these movies.

Then, is TFA so divisive it deserves 1/10 on imdb or so many hate comments?

I guess this is what happens when a movie breaks all box office records and is praised by critics.
You probably had the same phenomenon for Titanic and Avatar.

That being said, I can understand some fans are disappointed by TFA.
I don't DISAGREE with you...BUT... I do not SHARE the same opinion.... that's a world of difference right there.

People tend to forget that it is "just" a movie. I hear a lot of complaints that, for example, stormtroopers are still inaccurate in TFA.
I mean really, if stormtroopers would hit everything, the movie would be over in 20 minutes, and Rey and Finn would be dead on Jakku market.
People don't know how to enjoy a movie. When I first saw it, I was overwhelmed with emotions and joy, and that is ALL that matters. Just like J.J. and Kasdan said - Is it delightful? That's what's matters.
And when the initial excitement passed, I started to dig on the story and realized how people got it all wrong.
The focal point of the story is development of Rey and Kylo (each one in their on way), and not a Starkiller base. That thing is just temporary means for all the action to get around.
By the time time episode VIII gets out, we will have at least a few good books that will explain some things and make us love and understand TFA even more. Personally I cannot wait for "Bloodline" from Claudia Gray to get out and reveal some parts of TFA story, since it's set 6 years before movie events.
