@pulanpizda, my statement is not trolling. As a Moderator of this website, I have seen many negative ratings splashed around here for less....like what you did to me. I was merely stating a warning to the original poster to perhaps brace for that event, and let the thread go...as it continues now. ;)

I have a feeling they are trying to keep the hype down because they do not feel secure. They cannot be sure they have a hit on their hand, or if TFA will be subject to a backlash of PT-proportions. Once the film has been seen, and they know if they have captured hearts or not - then I suspect we'll be flooded. I don't know. Just a hunch. But it is super-annoying that we don't have a new trailer yet.

Even the largest corporations and in the world can make mistakes. It is possible that they are doing their analysis incorrectly. If they think hype is still too high (assuming they are measuring it correctly) then they will push the trailer back to November. Here is what could be happening:

If they do multi-option surveys about what movies people want to see in the remainder of this year, people will obviously get excited at seeing Star Wars on the list (the survey is generating hype the minute people take it, giving you useless data to work with). It is possible that they think the hype among the general population is higher than it actually is, and we know from asking our friends, family and associates that a good number of people aren't even aware of the film outside of the fan community. If their strategy is to reduce hype before releasing another trailer (to avoid unrealistic expectations) then that could explain late release of the trailer... only problem is that the trailer could be release so late that it can either A) not have the intended impact or B) due to the proximity of the premiere, it can create an unrealistic expectations that do not settle down enough by the premiere.

In other words, they are taking a really big risk, and will either go down as genius or complete failure.

I am curious as to why you don't believe it will feel like Star Wars. Just genuinely curious; not hating on your opinion. If you're just talking about the OT... of course it's going to feel a little different. TFA is releasing 32 years after ROTJ. JJ and KK has stated many times that they focused on making TFA feel like the OT with the cast, costuming, practical effects, story, music. When you watched the 2nd teaser trailer did you feel as if this film was not a Star Wars film? In everything that has released so far about this film what made you think this film will be disappointing?

I'm not answering for him, but in my case it might feel non Star Wars if I notice an over-abundance of modern camera movement (not saying that don't use them, just don't replace the OT style with a new and modern one).

A friend who works at the local cinema has had people trying to pre-book since the release date dropped. I think that bodes well for BO figures. Once the pre-ordering goes live we'll have a better indication.

Depends... are they just the local Star Wars Fans or casual movie goers? The problem with measuring anticipation for this film is that you need to offset the fans anticipation.

What occurs to me is that what no one might see coming is that TFA isnt a great film or a terrible one.

It comes out, we watch it, and it just kinda sits there on the screen expecting something from us that's not really there any more. We've been in love for 40 years, and we are very fond of each other but the spark isn't there that much. We remember how it felt back in the day and that's pleasant but that fades over time into a nice memory.

So there we all sit, realizing Star Wars isn't back. It never went anywhere, it's just more and it doesn't move us one way or another. We saw the lasers flash, the robots and puppets moved around, the music swelled and faded, and we just sit there eyes drooping.

You walk out of the theater much like you do after any other movie.

This absolutely terrifies me. I'm afraid I'm hyping myself up too much and I'll leave feeling that Star Wars has become "Blah" so to speak. So far nothing Star Wars related has done that for me other than the new mobile game but that's more for gameplay reasons than anything else. I enjoyed the prequels and seeing the special edition in theaters and I can only hope I feel the same way coming out of TFA.

Oh I'm sure they must be hardcore Star Wars fans.

This might be the first time I pre-order a ticket for a film, I'm that worried that I might not see it opening day simply because I've heard so many people talking about the film. Especially at work and across all age groups, it's definitely on a lot of peoples minds already.

I also think their are a lot more 'casual' Star Wars fans out there than people realize. Those that love the films but don't read the books , watch the cartoons or scour the web for information. I think they will massively outnumber die-hard fans on opening weekend.

I have to agree with you that not having a trailer a little more than 2 months from the opening for a movie of this magnitude is something we don´t see often. :)
But then again how much time did they have? 2 years. The past 6 movies had 3 years each. I see this as the only reason why we still don´t have the trailer (it can´t be the secrecy - the trailer will be out no matter what and I don´t see any difference if it´s 6 weeks or six months before the opening - we´ll get the new info either way). Now why the movie poster is not out yet, that´s a question I have no answer for..

If the trailer drops in late in november, it would be late.
    Maybe too late.
Not everyone is a huge Star Wars fan.
To get average moviegoers/no SW fans into the cinema you need a good and early advertisement campaign.
A little example: "Nobody from my family would have known about a new Star Wars movie coming out soon, if I didn't informed them"
By the way the movie is out in nearly two months.
Currently I think that Disney is more interested in making money from inferior plastic toys and mediocre books/comics based on SW.
They should start to advertise the movie, or it will not make the expected money they are hoping for, but why should I care, I don't own Disney stocks.

That's exactly what I am saying... we should start a club. I feel like most people here are living in fantasy land. The only reason I care about the film being successful is because I don't want it to have any negative impact on the other two. If E VIII or E IX gets a budget cut because of E VII then that would be most unfortunate.

One thing is for certain, the long wait for the full trailer has created a new breed of message board marketing experts.

It takes an outstanding resume to work in the Disney marketing department - quality college degrees, years of experience, proven track records. Since 2009 that marketing department has proven to be among the very best in the industry. Market share of gross box office revenue is continuing an upward trajectory, despite the fact that the studio is releasing fewer films (they've averaged 17.5 films a year since 2009, after averaging 27 movies a year over a decade and a half prior to that). Which means Disney is making more with less. Over that same span their stock has gone from $15 a share to the current (as of this morning) $103.

That's about as good as it gets.

I understand that some of us are really impatient to see new footage, but believing you have a better grasp of what it takes to successfully market a movie than the people in the Disney marketing department is just silly.
