Let's talk spacecraft....and my anti-T-70 rant

OK so I've seen TFA many times, love the space sequences....BUT....I am just not a fan of the T-70 X-Wing. Alright, alright, I know the backstory, how it was based upon McQuarrie's concept drawings of the X-Wing in collaboration with Lucas pre-ANH. After having seen R1 and the incredible sequences featuring the good old T-65's.....must admit I like the look of the -65 better. The -70's wings just look too thin and I don't like how the -70 wings "nest" together instead of just stacking like the -65. I much prefer the individual engine nacelles on the -65 vs the "split circle" on the -70.

One thing missing from the movie (which would make a spacecraft geek like me very happy), and I am only talking like a 30-45 second scene, would be Poe talking to an older X-wing pilot on the ground, as he walked around a -70. Something like having the older pilot say he had never seen a T-70 and was used to the old T-65....then Poe could give us a quick overview of the improvements on the -70....."the -70 is more maneuverable and the laser cannons have had their power boosted. Plus it carries Mark IV proton torpedoes. And best of all the -70 is fitted for a BB unit...."

Let's talk other spacecraft....I have heard, and I hope it is true, that A-WIngs and B-Wings will be seen in TLJ or EP IX. I sincerely hope so.....would also hope we see the bulk of the Republic fleet in action. Finally, as someone else here in the Cantina pointed out......the biggest travesty of TFA was the absence of two iconic SW pilot phrases - "All wings report in".....and.....the worst of all...."Lock S Foils in attack position"......I sincerely hope this travesty is corrected in TLJ or Ep IX....

I hope to see more original starship designs as well, and I think we will. It makes it odd that the sequels share many of the same designs (with a little variation) as the originals, while the prequels and originals have similar concepts (for example, the AT-TE and the AT-AT are both walkers) but different designs.

Yeah, I prefer the OT X-Wings to the ST X-Wings, too. Oldie, but a goldie. (Not gold as in Gold Squadron, though... those are Y-Wings. :D)

I liked the redesign on the T70s..

    That said..

Supposedly they own this.. there's no "prequel stink" on it; purely based off the OT. With some slight mods you could pop BB-8 up top and, hey, it looks like it can actually fly in an atmosphere. Like the TIE Interceptor, it clear to see where it comes from.

    I understand George's disdain for this stuff.. I still don't understand Disney's.

The post is very good and it was marching nice and friendly without any type of bashing and you just had to bring the ''prequel stink'' comment into the mix.

My humble apologies. I put that in quotations as I meant for that to cue the understanding of JJ Abrams and LFL pre-TFA phobia of all things prequel.
By happenstance I just posted my list of 3 iconic ships of the PT.
Some of the designs in the PT are indeed crap. But others are well worthy of the name "Star Wars."
Even some that are a little bit shiny.

The spacecraft in this movie were pretty disappointing. Didn't like the 'new' star destroyers, x-wings, or TIE fighters. And there really wasn't any other ships in the movie other than those clunky troop carriers and that ugly ship Han and Chewbacca were flying when they didn't have the Falcon. Hopefully things will be better in TLJ. The McQuarrie-style ships are getting pretty boring now. I want to see ships that are sleek and less boxy and angular.
