I didn't start reading them heavily until recently. I picked up some books from the library and I was hooked.
Prior to that I read in Junior High but once in High School I got so busy with afterschool activities I stopped reading other than things that were assigned in class.

Cool. I came to U.S in 1995 and once I discovered Barnes & Noble I was hooked on it.
However I tried to stay away from sci-fi/fantasy section for a long while. Didn't know a lot
of good writers back then and simply didn't want to over saturate myself with mediocre books.

I was aware of SW books but didn't really know they tied into the movies or formed one coherent
story. Eventually I gave in and from about 2005 I made it a personal project to read every single
    SW novel.

Almost finished all of them except for two story arcs.

The X-Wing series and the Fate Of The Jedi. And a few books in between...

I read Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy when it first was published way back when. They are all hardcover, and I still have them. Been thinking of re-reading them, as it's been a long time.

Recently, I had a friend introduce me to the audiobook Dark Lord-The Rise of Darth Vader, and loved it. Now, feeling newly motivated, I'll be seeking out some of the books I've read about in this thread. Sounds like there's some really good material out there.

@RBanks If you're a fan of clone wars period I highly recommend you start with "Medstar: Battle Surgeons" duology! These are exceptionally written, self contained books w.out any major characters. You need only basic understanding of Clone Wars to get into it. One of the best sci-fi I've read in or outside SW.

The Thrawn Trilogi and Shadows of the Empire. Going to read The Jedi Academy soon hopefully, and recently bought Tarkin from the new canon. Next year we'll se a novel where Vader and Palpatine are captured at a planet, and have to co work to make it through. Could be interessting, and I'd hope it's a good one!

I haven't started yet, but will hopefully do during this weekend! I have seen some positive and some mixed reviews, but I'll give you an update when I've read some of it. I do hope it's good, the idea of a novel about Tarkin is interesting in my opinion. :)

    Just finished "Millennium Falcon" today.

It was a decent read. I wish Han's and Leia's emotions over "Legacy Of The Force" aftermath were explored a bit more.
However I understand why the novel didn't delve into it much - to keep the tone more lighthearted. The Solo family slowly
rebuilding felt warm after a very dark time.

And finally embarking on "Fate Of The Jedi" arch.... anyone here read those?

So... 5 chapters into "Outcast" and I'm loving it. That's what I look for in a good adventure book. The chapters are economical in their descriptions, keep the events at a steady pace, and the characterizations of the major cast are quite believable.

    =))

There are no better novels than the New Jedi Order period. That is my two cents.

I always liked the "tales from the" series. Bounty hunters was my fav. Shadows of the Empire was good, and Truce at Bakkura. I always wanted do finish the the Thrawn series, but only bought the first two books when they first came out...not sure if I could ever get back into them now that the EU is dead.

I read a few others as a teen, but never kept up, and sorta stopped caring about as I got older and found the prequel trilogy stuff more relevant.

I will most likely be getting the new books that are canon, however. .

I wish more people got into the EU. I don't see why you can't simply perceive the books
as stand alone interpretations of those writers, cannon or not. A lot of them are absolutely
    fantastic!!

I always took them as being like the old myths, being retold, and having a story teller embellish and change stuff. Like 100 different versions of Hercules.

Darth Bane is my all time favorite, followed by Plagueis. Audible is my best friend. The book versions of the PT were good too, shined in some extra insight on OBI and Anakin; added a bit more quality to the watching the films

    Thrawn Trilogy
    Darth Bane Trilogy
    Darth Plagueis
    Han Solo Trilogy (Brian Daley)

Me too. A kind of vast apocrypha. SW is so vast it's a mythology with its own mythology!

I love me some EU reading. I started with Heir to The Empire first and was hooked since. I last read Crucible and loved it and now working on Obi Wan. I have mixed feelings about EU turning legends but I'm very excited for VII coming out and I did buy the first Marvel Star Wars comic. I look forward diving in the time period between IV and V than I'm sure next will be between V and VI. I loved Plugues and look forward to Tarkin. Also what are some feelings here who enjoy EU and how some of the names like the Solo kids and Skywalker's son will not make it over to VII going forward?
