    The way it looks to me, TLJ dropped TFA’s threads to subvert expectations, while ROS now went all in to course correct.

    Top of my head on retcons to fix the plot after TLJ:

    -«Old» Luke back
    -Treating lightsabers with respect
    -Deciding to bring back a «new big bad» after the killing of Snoke left them with none
    -They brought the main characters together again
    -Rose sidelined
    -Referring to the «Holdo manouver» as near impossible in a different scenario
    -Rey had a powerful force lineage after all
    -Rey seen training with Leia
    -Lando is the same old, not bitter and changed


    Anything else? Seems the whole thing is a «we’re sorry» for TLJ.

    Leia and her training with the force seemed the most stand out to me. According to TLJ and interviews with RJ Leia didn’t have any training. The one I appreciated most though was the death of Jake Skywalker.

    Probably the biggest for me and more important is Anakin bringing balance to the Force and killing the emperor.

    Oh and another one I noticed was how Finn is pretty obviously at the very least force sensitive and his instincts are now keys to success for the good guys in ROS whereas in TLJ where Finn was at first just a sort of self absorbed borderline coward who was trying to get away that had to be stopped to at the end had a burst of heroic sacrifice that had to be stopped indicating his instincts were pretty shabby and would lead to failure.

    There is no lapse time between TFA and TLJ to explore that.

    It makes much more sense that Finn starts to notice his sensitivity to the force after a year hanging out with Rey.

    Nah I think the first hints were in TFA but in TLJ it seemed there was a huge regression and missed opportunity in Finn’s development that had to be made up for in ROS.

    Yeah, imagine JJ just throwing up his hands as JJ just killed off the villain he created for the sequels in TLJ. Now he had bring in someone else, and having no time to build him or her up he had to resurrect someone familiar.

    Ok if you are going to create a list make it legit.

    Literally the only thing in that list that is in anyway a Retcon is Rey lineage and she turns away from it, rejects it.

    However, even Rey's lineage isn't a retcon because it's not in any way inconsistent with or contrary to either of the other Sequel Trilogy films.

    I thought it was powerful that she rejected lineage.

    The scavenger girl rejected the whole divine right of kings to take the name of slaves.

    It's a really good thematic arc and a nice contrast and parallel to Ben Solo/Kylo Ren.

    Retcons? Nah, not really. It never really felt like JJ was righting the wrongs of TLJ. Not that I felt there were wrongs in TLJ in the first place.

    If someone is looking for it I guess they will see something they feel is retconning.

    In analyzing the various spoilers and discussions, I've found exactly one thing in this movie - not counting Palpatine's survival - that is actually a retcon: Luke's hut door being made from an X-Wing part.
