I don't think he's depressed. He's a very happy person, again I'm not a doctor, but I remember one time I was talking him about his weight, and he said he doesn't plan on living long. It's like he's given up and accepts his obesity. He can play video games for 8 hours easily but to go the gym for 30 minutes is a horror to him.

I tried playing a game with him when we play video games, every time we get killed from the video game, we have to drop and do as much push ups or sit-ups as possible (10 to 20)... but that got old fast, so I stopped. The more I try to help him the more he eats and tells me I got this new video game...

He called me up to play Call of Duty. We usually play online. We played from 2pm to about 830pm. We spent the entire day playing taking breaks for dinner and so forth but If I told him lets go to the gym for an hour he would say I'm crazy. So I do my own thing. I don't play video games much anymore. I try to be active. Moderation is the key.

Sometimes it's hard to tell how someone is really feeling. Maybe gyms just aren't for him anymore? You could try to find some other activity that interests him. There is a saying though that you can't outrun a poor diet. Exercise is great, but it's very easy to eat more calories than you burn. Did you tell him you're worried about him? It's a slippery slope because too much could just make someone turn more to their bad habits. From what you've said, he and his wife have to know there is a problem. All you can do is show them the door, they have to walk through it. Just keep showing that door!

Yeah, maybe I should tell him that... Ironically, his wife is not obese. She eats salads and is very active. I think some women like the Jabba the Hutt Gangster type.

Full disclosure, I haven't been eating the healthiest this weekend. Many Oreos were killed. Back on the wagon. I will be healthier for The Rise of Skywalker than I am today.

Crawling out of bed for yoga this morning then weight training. Eating Tuna fish or salmon after weight training today. Just protein no carbs. I had my Oreo week in early August. Milk and cookies are the best. But yeah, back on track for TROS.

I need to lose weight again. At one time i weighed 215 lbs back in 2010. I went on the Atkins diet plus jogging daily and lost about 40 lbs. Now I'm at 194.4 lbs and creeping on 200 again.

I just don't know what to do. Don't feel like doing the Atkins again. Looking for something different.

But jogging helps lose like you wouldn't believe. Just gotta get motivated to do it.

If you're looking for motivation, use the premier of The Rise of Skywalker as a goal. Tell yourself you will lose weight before then. We have a little over 2 months.

Happy to report that I've found something that works for me, been on it consistently for two weeks and despite the fact that I currently have a cold, I'm feeling pretty good about things.

Turned 50 this year and figured it's now or never. Feels like I'm playing on the back nine. Got the gym down pretty good x 14 months now. Shoulders are looking like grapefruits and I'm lifting way more than I did when I worked out in my 20's. Even noticing lats are flaring out. Cardio is mainly elliptical machine for the sake of the joints.

Problem is the metabolism isn't the same. Haven't been able to make the same commitment on the dietary side and still don't have a 6 pack. I swear it will happen though. Just have to up my mental game (the force is with me, I am one with the force!)

Hey friends need some advice.....been keeping the weight under control now in my 240-245lb target range (down 50 lb from March 2019!)

I have been playing racquetball 3X a week , used to play all the time as a young man. I took about 7 years off from 2013 until now and have been playing regularly for the past several months. Have developed pain in my right shoulder now right after playing.....went to the Dr today and they said bursitis. Going to the physical therapist in a week or two to see if I can work through this....any advice? never had shoulder pain before

What works best for me is cutting out suggars and salts and alcohol, and eating smaller portionts. + getting comfortable about going around hungry :p

As for shoulder pains... You'll probably have to drop racquetball... Mountains biking is fun, though :)

The New Year is right around the corner. Time to lose those Holiday pounds. Anyone else want to set some goals for 2020?

I’ll start. I want to run a 5K faster than I ever have before. That’s not saying much really, but it’s a start. I’ll be 47 next month.

My goal is to lay off the alcohol for 2020. That'd be swell.

After four years of regular exercise in the gym, I was forced to take a three month break when my MS flared up during the heat this summer. I have only returned to light exercise in November and I am planning to return to my old regimen in January. The thing is, I don't have to lose weight since I didn't gain any, just get back my hard-earned body shape - I want my flat abs back, e chu ta! :D I know I have to be persistent, but lack of results is depressing me. Ah, well, maybe 2020 will help... :D

You can do it. Last December 31st, I smoked my last cigarette and it's still the last. You'd be surprised how easy is to give up things on the last day of the year. Take your last drink a minute before midnight. Trust me. :)

My buddy and I own a small storehouse gym at some industrial area in Hamburg. We are 32 handpicked people including us.They can train here 24h year round ,no crowds, no music, no tvs ,no fancy equipment, only barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, pull up bars, climbing ropes, medicine balls, punching bags, and a boxing ring. Its that kind of place where people want to get really serious about their training. What I learned from my training partners is this: 9 out of 10 people who come here are searching for GPP (general physical preparedness) but don't know that they do because of information overload caused by the internet. That makes them want to be bodybuilders and strongman and powerlifters and olympic lifters all at the same time.It doesnt work.If we are not into strength sports what we are searching for is GPP. It is the base for sports specific strength and endurance.
For example you can do full body strength training twice a week and general endurance twice a week .
    Brief example:
Mon - Deadlift/Bench/Chin ups or Pull ups 3x5 reps with long rests
    Tue - couple of 400 m runs
Thu- Front Squat/Military Press/Rows 3x5 with long rests
    Fr - 100-200 heavy swings
    Done.
    Warm up before.
    Stretch afterwards.
Dont use belts or straps or gloves only chalk.
Never miss a rep, leave 1 or 2 reps in the tank on any set.
    Use proper technique.
Don't go all out on sprinting but ease into it.
Cut the sugar and junk food, forget about low carb or paleo or any other diet but EAT CLEAN most of the time.
You will look and feel and perform better than 9 out of 10 people.
    Cheers.

Since this is a Star Wars forum, and because I'm looking at getting back into running this year...

Anyone familiar with the app Zombies Run? And anyone know if there are other equivalents to it (including a Star Wars one)?
