I think you will find, @JediJarJar, that apps and such are for people who have no particular desire to run and who needs some extra insentive to make it fun. Also, snarkiness will get you nowhere her. Behave.

What if I delete the word "nerdy" , is that ok or does it still hurt too much?

Doesn't "hurt" at all, man. We're all nerds here.

It's just kinda worthless advice that doesn't even approach the question asked.

I know how to run, already. :p

Was just looking for something to enjoy while I did it, or for incentive like @Angelman said.

@Lord of the Rens Thanks for that post! I enjoy walking and running. I enter a lot of 5Ks and such (I usually finish around the middle of the pack). Most of the time when I take a break from running and walk for a stretch, I've noticed it's more mental than physical. I still have plenty of strength and energy, but mentally I just want to take a short break from running for a minute. It's irresistible. I know my times could be so much better if I just pushed through. I see a lot of other people using apps like mentioned earlier in the thread, but I've always hated headphones. I want to hear whats going on around me and I hate having anything in my ear. I enjoy the races very much, but there's some sort of mental barrier I need to break. I know people who have greatly improved their times with apps. I need some sort of alternative. Any ideas?

    A few....

Without in person testing and an assessment @Rodney-2187 it seems you are plateaued.

Perhaps small dose of L-glutamine might be an option that helps get you over that edge.

In any case, your question falls under: OPT

Optimum Performance Training..... to break through your specific barrier, I recommend cardio intervals.

This protocol can be likened to boot camp and carrying a rifle around, everywhere you go.

    Warmup, then....

Sprint a quarter of a mile.

Walk a brisk quarter while carrying a minimum of 10 pounds.

Rinse and repeat until you've run and walked two miles. Short, sweet, simple.

Do this once per week in addition to your current regular routine for 4 to 6 weeks... then test run a 5k.

Your results will determine the next recommendation.

    Randoms:

Adding Bromelain to food intake... natural anti inflammatory found in Pineapple. Among other bene's.

And only drink distilled water if you want cleanse kidneys and detox YOUR body.

Positive-charged water CANNOT remove salts and minerals. Simple, really.

Hydration drinks are founded upon deception.

Gator Aid and the like are all liquid garbage. All of them.

Ractopamine in American Pork leads to severe Joint-pain, Parkinsons, Dementia and Alzheimer's.

If this were untrue, our swine wouldn't be banned from import by almost every developed nation.
    Have fun researching this, though.

Clients who've cut pork out have seen a MARKED improvement.
    Time and again.

If you must eat that unclean meat; buy local, untreated flesh.

@Lord of the Rens Thanks for the encouragement and recommendations. The Holidays have taken a toll on my routine, but I have a series of four 5Ks coming up, so time to get ready. I have a goal to get a new personal best on one of those.

Have you tried bone conducting headphones? That's what I use.

They're kinda freaky at first, in that they transmit sound via vibrations into your jaw (kinda like those toothbrushes that played music, if you remember those).

But what's nice is that the way the sound works, it allows you to clearly hear whatever you're playing, while still allowing your ears to hear what's around you. It's definitely a strange experience!

And they (at least the pair I have) come more in a thin Lobot-style headband, rather than earbuds- again, nothing actually goes in your ears, so you still have a good audio sense of your surroundings.

Geez JarJar...I personally think "Learn to Suffer" is hardly advice that most would call "Motivation", and your sarcasm is noted....maybe go to another thread.

Look, I don't want to derail this thread any further, and I know the mods do a great job here, but as far as I'm concerned this guy can catch a hard ban.

Implying that the members here are "low t-level" and we should just play with toys is frankly immature, and potentially demotivating or even deeply insulting to some of the people here.

It's a harmful post to have in a thread like this, and the "just suffer" sentiment is nearly as bad.

Anyway, no matter- going for a run in a few hours, and I'm planning on making it a part of my daily routine. Thanks for those of you who have, and I imagine will continue to, sincerely support me on my journey.

More often, than not, motivation comes after the action, not the other way around. For me, getting to the gym is the hardest, everything else after that is (relatively) a piece of cake.
As for "learning to suffer", the key is not to focus on the "suffering", but on whatever goal you want achieve by doing that.
Also, I heard taking l-carnitine 10 minutes before exercising helps to burn fat. I've been trying that for two weeks now.

A coach in my gym connected me with a physiotherapist after I complained that the previous therapists were not giving me exercises efficient for my condition (MS). They were giving me exercises for someone almost immobile which is crazy. After examining me, the guy gave him advice and today the coach gave me the exercises designed for me.

Guys, I never knew I had some of these muscles, lol. I never experienced feeling improvement in real time even if short-lived. Long lasting results require dedication - rebuilding of destroyed neural pathways. All I know is, I am going to feel this in the morning. No pain, no gain, right? :D
