I put the Spoiler Tag since, I consider it talks about a scene that was reported and spoiled frequently and coherently for a couple of months.

Finn is a trooper at the beginning of TFA and lands on a planet where hell breaks loose, people fight and Finn's friend is killed before his own eyes. Is is also reported that Finn's friend touches his helmet before passing, leaving marks of blood on it.

We know that Finn then changes allegiance and joins the Republic afterwards.

There were also reports that we might have our first female stormtroopers in TFA.

    Here's a theory.

Finn's "friend" might be more than a friend.

His friend that dies could be Finn's lover, played by one of the several wonderful actresses that were brought onboard TFA's spaceship.

He's heartbroken, reconsiders his allegiance and escapes. That drama could be used in the Sequel Trilogy as part of Finn's own story arc and character depth.

    Am I too dramatic?
Do I connect dots that have nothing to do one with the other?
Or I am on something here?

I think you are, I still think Finn infiltrated a stormtrooper squad his ''friend'' a love interest she probably saved his life when a another trooper tried to kill them both.

I like it. It could be Crystal Clarke playing his friend that dies.

Wasn't his friend rumored to be Pip Anderson? Star Wars would become a the most forward thinking big budget franchise of all time if that happened and they would deserve this!

I believe so. It could go either way seeing as they both won the casting call. We will see soon!

I'm actually putting stock in that theory. JJ started Star Trek with something similar.

IIRC Reports stated Pip Anderson was seen at the 'endor battle'. If the storyboards we got are correct it's fairly unlikely he's playing that role. Then there's this, of course:

What I like about the idea is that it gives, in a very trivial and little scene, so much payoff potential for the rest of the movie or the whole Sequel Trilogy. Heartbroken Finn, changes allegiance, not only because of the trauma caused by some violence done to a group of people, but also the death of a loved one. Blames himself... maybe falls in love again in the next episodes. It could work with a "friend"... works even better with a "lover". I don't know, it sort of hit me when I was browsing through all past MSW rumors... including the one about female stormtroopers... and tha fact that MSW seems to post constantly about stuff he knows about the first scenes of the movie... constantly and coherently...

Lost love is one's journey to be reunited with the one they had a great connection from youth, allegiance is always when that choice approaches.

The friend that died was "Slip" from Before the Awakening. FN-2003 often fell behind and Finn felt for him. Captain Phasma had words with Finn about this saying that the weakest link sometimes had to die for the team to be stronger and told him to stop rescuing him. I know this is an older post, but for some reason it came up.

Yeah I think thaat what I read was Phasma was in charge of that little group of guys that is in "Before the Awakening" with Slip, Nines, etc. and Phasma personally mentored Finn and helped him through his first "Reconditioning" and I thought it was Nines(?) that died on Jakku during their very first battle and Finn got immediate PTSD and seemed to have a panic/anxiety attack and made a hasty decision to leave ... though Finn could have had a love that was lost on SKB that he finds out about in VIII further causing him to question both sides.

Nines was the one killed by Han Solo with the bowcaster that called Finn "Traitor".
