SPECULATION Love relationship and the Star Wars universe

Well Obi-Wan was gay... with Jim Carrey.

 

Of course, in Legend of Korra they didn't come right out and say it until the last scene in the series (which was still slightly ambiguous), and even then they had moved the show off of the network and onto the internet by that point.

 

I love sailor moon but I hated that 'kissing cousins' rubbish. They were out and out gay for christ sake. I would love an LGBT character / relationship but it would have to be done right. In strange way including a lesbian character over a gay character would have to be done correctly. I would not want it as a fanboys fantasy which can come across as bit dodgy. The relationship would have to be done right. Including a gay male character would maybe easier to include for seriousness.

But I would be fully supportive of any LGBT character in star wars

It depends on how it is done but it wouldn't bother me. I'm surprised it wasn't in the PT.

I'm quite certain there will be s love story of some sort in the new troliogy though. I think it will be Rey and Poe.

 

My prediction has long been that the new trilogy will be three stories. 1- who is the new Jedi. 2- moral choices for bringing "peace" to the galaxy. 3- Romeo (Finn) and Juliet (Rey) the Star Wars crossed lovers.

Obviously it is the 3rd story line that is relevant to this thread. With Rebel Hardliners willing to blow up whole planets there is room for a sympathetic storm trooper.

 

So they kill themselves over a one week "romance"? Damn that's gonna be hard sell

 

They lived through West Side Story and Gnomeo and Juliet and probably every other Romeo and Juliet send up. So I doubt they will drink the Hemlock. But between the Empire who are still bad guys and some of the Republic who prove themselves also bad guys there is likely to be a "plague called on both houses." So why not opposing side lovers?

 

We have heard a lot about this trilogy being darker. I think it's going to focus more on struggles within the characters stories rather than light hearted stuff or romance. Don't get me wrong we will get a little of those too but I think this trilogy is going to be more deeply rooted in a universe in deep peril deeper than before even and how it's going to be brought out of it. Especially if this isn't the last trilogy. I don't see there being enough focus on romance for them to even consider distracting us with something new in that area. We are going to have a female lead and an African American lead that's already a big change.

 

Star Wars will always be geared towards families and suitable for young kids so I don't think and I hope there is not an increase of sexuality or sexual desire (straight or gay). There is already too much gratuitous sexuality in TV and film today that do nothing to advance the story and there is no need for it in Star Wars. I don't think Disney will have a gay/lesbian character because it is a risky move for a company trying to make there new investment pay off. It may be something that we will see later after Disney gets it's rerun on investment. I myself do not want to see any romance in TFA but if we do, I hope it is innocent like Han/Leia or Anakin/Padme.

 

I am not sure if is actually going to be "darker" remember Anakin sabred the Jedi grade school. Especially with the rumors floating. It sounds like more planet killing space blasters (of one form or another). I think it is still going to be aimed at the same audience which includes 8 year olds. What I expect is ethical conundrums on that huge scale. There have always been dismembering.

 

I agree. It will have the typical sci-fi violence. We have seen in the others. I don't see it being much "darker" then ESB or ROTS. I do think the ethical conundrums being likely.

 

Love relationships in star wars as we have seen never last without a tragedy during it.
